Does anyone else smell this smell?

It's a smell of hair being blow dried

I don't know. I find it has a smell? I really like it and sometimes now blow dry my hair because of it Grin

It's like a salon type smell. I don't know.

The second smell is the smell of ironing. I can smell that. And I really like that too!

Anyone else? I have asked elsewhere and got met with strange looks

I like the ironing smell. I gave up ironing in 2009 though so I don't get it very often.

I love ironing. I find it quite therapeutic Blush but like a lot of things, I am the odd one out

Yes, definitely. I don't think that's weird at all!

Yes, things definitely smell different under extreme heat. And when they're very cold too - in winter I got back from lunch and a coworker told me I smelled cold after being outside. Totally knew what she meant!

ThereIsAMassivePiegeonOnMyFence · 02/07/2024 22:09

Can anyone smell wet metal? No one else gets what I mean when I say certain metal smells when wet 😂

bigmammycool · 02/07/2024 22:11

Yes! If you blow dry your hair then leave the room and then return to it, you can smell that lovely blow dry smell. Same with the ironing smell. I thought I was the only one!

Or wet windows/glass. Not a very pleasant smell, almost like wet dog,

trainedopossum · 02/07/2024 22:26

I like those smells too, and the smell of warm wet hair when you've just washed it in the summer, reminds me of beaches and swimming pools.

DurtBurd · 02/07/2024 22:28

Yes to hair drying, ironing, wet metal and cold! I love when my kids come in from outside playing in the winter and they smell cold.

SeriousFaffing · 02/07/2024 22:29

So… It’s unusual to be able to smell these smells? This blows my mind. I thought it was normal.

blackandwhitestripes · 02/07/2024 22:34

It's totally normal to smell steam?

Ironing and hair drying are a fresh steamy smell, made nicer as they are warning stuff with shampoo or washing powder, to it's steam but with extra smells.

Oh and yes to wet metal. My old school fences used to smell a ferry way, like a radiator paint smelll.

stonegiraffes · 02/07/2024 22:38

I can smell when there's a thunderstorm brewing, or if it is going to snow.

Allthislovelygreen · 02/07/2024 22:51

They're both quite similar as they're creating steam from the shampoo residue on your hair and the fabric conditioner on your clothes.

You've just made me think how I love walking into a busy salon during winter when all it's windows are steamed up and the air inside is all warm and fragrant 😊

AgathaMystery · 02/07/2024 22:53

Yes to these smells. And petrichor. These aren’t unusual smells though, are they?

I can and so can my mum. My sister thinks we are mad that we can smell wet cutlery.

AgathaMystery · 02/07/2024 23:06

Yes wet metal is very strong. Like someone else said, wet glass is very wooly smelling.

Hot hair is quite dry and acrid - hairdryer hot hair is different to curling tong hot hair (much crisper smelling) and GHD hot hair is different again - somehow a wetter smell.

When I get the smell of petrichor, it just makes me feel so alive. I love it.

its gorgeous isn’t it. And I don’t feel like we get it a lot in the U.K. I live in a very warm dry part of the U.K. and the smell hit a few days ago. Felt like I hadn’t smelt properly it in a few years.

I absolutely love the smell when snow is on the way. Nobody else in my family can smell it.

I hate the smell of people who've just been outside in the cold! I don't know why

I've had a lot of people say 'you smell of the outside cold' to me and various others in the past. I know what they mean! I don't like it though Grin

Used to love the smell of fresh cut grass until DP told me it was the smell of distress and trauma; the equivalent of grass screaming in pain. Ruined it for me.

Love the smell of cold.

mandymeans · 02/07/2024 23:24

Can anyone else smell sunshine? I feel like there's a certain smell in the air when the sun is just burning down

I also feel like I can smell when someone's skin has been in the sun ☀️ I like that smell

PickAChew · 02/07/2024 23:27

I've missed the smell of petrichor. Caught it for the first time in almost a year, last week. It's just been too bloody wet all the time!

I like the smell of my arms after even a couple of minutes in the sun. Only had a few days of that, this year, too.

IOYOYO · 02/07/2024 23:28

I love the smell of the wind and air. I smell it on my cats, the kids and occasionally after I’ve hung washing when the weathers good enough. It’s not a smell of anything else from the outside, like if there’s an additional smelly thing, it’s just the outside.

I didn’t know what petrichor was until I looked it up - but that’s a favourite smell too.
