Does anyone else smell this smell?

It's a smell of hair being blow dried

I don't know. I find it has a smell? I really like it and sometimes now blow dry my hair because of it Grin

It's like a salon type smell. I don't know.

The second smell is the smell of ironing. I can smell that. And I really like that too!

Anyone else? I have asked elsewhere and got met with strange looks

Can anyone smell wet metal? No one else gets what I mean when I say certain metal smells when wet 😂

Yes, and it makes my teeth feel weird just thinking about it!!

Yes, can almost smell it now just reading this. Surely most people can??

i love the smell of warm jumpers.
There’s a perfume that smells of it to me, a Killian one I can’t remember which, it’s lovely.

AgathaMystery · 02/07/2024 23:41

The smell of a cold cat or a sunshine hot human arm is incredible.

did anyone read the NYT article about the woman who can smell Parkinson’s Disease? It was fascinating.

Or wet windows/glass. Not a very pleasant smell, almost like wet dog,

Can't say I know this one though... do you mean like a mildewy smell if the room / window is damp or the double glazing has blown?

Yes, things definitely smell different under extreme heat. And when they're very cold too - in winter I got back from lunch and a coworker told me I smelled cold after being outside. Totally knew what she meant!

I love this smell. My mum used to smell like Cold Outside when she came in from work of a nighttime.

Re: the ironing smell. I guess that's you all smelling your own ironing. I guess you people are like me, as in, we wash our clothes properly.

I have a very, very strong sense of smell. The whiff of perfumes + detergent build-up + BO on clothes that have been shoved through a low temperature quick-wash makes me gag.

I work as a domestic cleaner. I once arrived at the home of a client, let myself in, and went through to the kitchen, where my client was ironing. Without stopping to think, I said "Oh! You're doing your friends ironing".

She almost dropped the iron. "How do you know, darling?" she asked.

I said "Uhmmm..." and panicked, because I hadn't the heart to say her friends clothes stink, and that she'd stunk out the guest bedroom the last time she'd stayed there, by leaving a blouse hanging on the back of the door in the middle of the summer heatwave. 😩

My kids used to love when I went to London for work. They loved the smell of me when I came home.

Weirdos.

PyongyangKipperbang · 02/07/2024 23:46

No but I sometimes smell dirty unwashed bodies when there are none!

I spend a lot of time with my parents who bathe daily (ask me how I know!) but sometimes I get a flash of grotty body smell. Sometimes its happened when no one else is around. And no, its not me either! Started when I was pregnant with DC3 as I was hyper sensitive to smells and this one has stuck around.

Apparently its a brain thing. Would rather have a nice smelling brain "thing"!

InTrainingForChristmas · 02/07/2024 23:46

Love the smell of the sun on my Ddogs fur, especially her velvety head and ears.
Also love the smell of sun warmed skin.
I can smell the cold and the wind too.

So… It’s unusual to be able to smell these smells? This blows my mind. I thought it was normal.

Was just thinking the same.

Shakespeareandi · 02/07/2024 23:57

Don't think any of those are unudal. All chemical reactions and most people with an, at least, average sense of smell would be able to pick out these scents.

FangsForTheMemory · 03/07/2024 00:05

I notice that some smells, like cold air, are stronger if I’ve been drinking alcohol. I stand outside my door taking deep breaths.

kkloo · 03/07/2024 00:16

I'd say it's far more unusual to NOT smell the the hair blow dry or ironing smell.

Surely everyone does unless they have issues with their sense of smell or perhaps if they iron or blowdry hair all day long and get used to it.

Zoflorabore · 03/07/2024 00:24

I’ve found my people!! Me and ds are like a pair of foxes, i also love telling people what perfume or aftershave they’re wearing.

mu favourite smell in the whole world is the forecourt of a petrol station 😊 I love the smell of petrol!

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 03/07/2024 00:51

Does anyone like the smell of cellars? I might be on my own here and I know it's foisty, but I love the earthy smell.

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 03/07/2024 00:52

It's not like damp clothes, it's truly earthy 🤣

CarrieMoonbeams · 03/07/2024 00:57

One of our dogs is a big fluffball, and she has learned to stand still when she comes in from the cold so DH and I can sniff her fur!

We used to have chickens and I liked the smell of their feathers when it was warm outside.

I can also smell when it's going to be frosty later, to me it makes the air smell fizzy or like sherbet.

You have just solved a mystery that was at least eight years old...a lady I know once said that if she doesn't leave the door of her washing machine open, the washing machine gets "foisty".

At least, as of today, that's what I realise she said. I think it may have been her accent (this lady spent 20+ years living in America, although came back in early 1990s) but what I thought she'd sad was "feisty". A combination, perhaps, of "fusty" and "musty". But now I know! 😅

🤣. Glad that mystery has been solved for you. I must admit that the first time I read fusty on here, I had to Google the word.

Can you imagine a feisty washing machine though? My mother once had one that was temperamental, and I've had a couple of very viscous upright vacuum cleaners, but never "feisty". 😅

🤣🤣. Love your username. I do hope it is homage to one of ABBA's underrated songs.

The washing drying hot iron smell is so comforting. It reminds me of living at home with my mum when I was little

Well yes, but clearly I haven't gone to bed around a quarter after ten.
