Did your lost cat come home?

My friend is so upset that their cat has been missing for over a week. She's done flyers and social media messages but nothing.
We're hoping she's just lost and trying to find her way back home and eventually will.
Any hopeful stories?

Yes. Ours a few years ago was about ten days. A friend of mines a couple of months ago was over two weeks. She found her up a tree in the woods behind the garden 😯 my sisters too have been gone over a week.

Apileofballyhoo · 02/07/2024 14:22

After 5 weeks. We were amazed.

OpizpuHeuvHiyo · 02/07/2024 14:23

Ours came back after 10 days. He had got trapped in someone's shed and they went away for a week.

He was fine.

Sometimes they don't come back. That's how it goes. But in that case you just have to know that all pets are only with us for a little while, and what's important isn't the number of years but how happy they were.

Of course @OpizpuHeuvHiyo but the dc miss the cat terribly so they're still hopeful.

Glad that you got cats back @Apileofballyhoo and @qotsa

We had one who was out during the time of 'the Beast from the East' a few years ago. We foster for a rescue charity and a bruiser of a tom cat who'd only been with us for a couple of days was recuperating following neutering and treatment for abcesses. Somehow he got out and we saw nothing of him for nearly 3 weeks until he just appeared outside one day.

Has your friend called local vets and rescues? Is the cat chipped and registered to her?

Beowulfa · 02/07/2024 14:54

A friend of mine's went missing for 6 months after they moved house. She just kept leafletting the area she'd moved from and asking on the local FB page. Luckily he was fairly distinctive so someone spotted him.

chouxchoux · 02/07/2024 14:54

My timid indoor cat escaped for 10 days. She came back unscathed. Still no idea where she was!

naffall · 02/07/2024 14:59

My cat escaped during the unpacking of our new house. She was gone for about a week and my parents thought she'd be gone forever (we'd moved 150 miles) but in she wandered one day unscathed.

neonleopard · 02/07/2024 14:59

Yes, mine disappeared for 2 weeks (only 3 weeks after moving house!). He just walked in one day, bit skinny but otherwise fine. So impressed he found his way back.

He did it again a few weeks later for 10 days - now I try not to worry so much!

afaloren · 02/07/2024 15:03

No, sadly, but a cat in the local area who had absconded in a tradesman’s van was found safe and well after a few weeks. It does happen.

Deepcalm · 02/07/2024 15:04

Yes, she went in a removal van and was brought back

Deepcalm · 02/07/2024 15:05

My mum’s cat was shut in a library over a long weekend

TerfTalking · 02/07/2024 15:07

Is the cat microchipped? Mine went
missing for ten days, turned up a good
mile away when a kindly lady who the cat had attached herself to, took her to the vet and got her scanned.

I volunteer at CP, unchipped cats are the least likely to be reunited.

TheKoalaWhoCould · 02/07/2024 15:08

Yes. After 3 months. Which was a terrible shock as we don’t have a cat. It belonged to the previous owners!

NewASDMum · 02/07/2024 15:10

My missing cat turned up 2 years later!

Overlyanxious · 02/07/2024 15:10

A friends cat came back after a week - she went round all the local areas and spoke to people who lived there as well as doing flyers. She also asked her postie to put a message out the others in the area. She managed to get people to add it to the what's app groups they have for their road. See if your friend can do some things like that.

My boy went missing 3 years ago 😭
I'm still hopeful he's coming home

Fgfgfg · 02/07/2024 15:16

3 years after he went missing we got a call from our vets to say someone had brought him in for a microchip check. Hed been hanging around and then living with a family two miles away for almost as long as he'd been gone. They thought he had another home but were moving and wanted to check before taking him with them. They had two small children who were devastated at the thought of losing him so we let him stay with them. We're convinced the extremely horrible neighbours teenage daughter took him and dumped him but couldn't be certain.

I'd like to be shut in a library over a long weekend. Imagine the peace and quiet!

whirlyhead · 02/07/2024 15:32

One of mine disappeared for 4 days during a royal wedding weekend, only to reappear at 3am in the morning screaming his head off. He was starving but otherwise fine!!

Another climbed into the back of a delivery van and was found over an hour later - fortunately, the delivery driver drove back to his last stop and asked my neighbour if she recognised my cat which she did as she was very attached to him.

We had a siamese growing up that loved stowing away in people's cars which led to any number of apologetic phone calls from friends - "erm, we got home, and suddenly noticed your cat sitting on our back seat..."

purplecorkheart · 02/07/2024 15:35

Yes, a friend of mine cat returned 6 months later. Just walked the door and went to where his bowl used to be. He was not impressed that it was not ready and waiting for him.

Aww, the delivery driver! 😭 that’s lovely, so many would just open the door and let the cat out without saying a word.

One of my girls went missing for two weeks, I dreamt one night that she was back, woke up and went into the garden and there she was.

Get the old litter in a bag with holes jabbed in it & got for a walk. Gives them a trail to follow home.
