Just back from Kings of Leon at BST Hyde park

What a lovely venue

Have been dying to see Paulo Nutini for a long time and he just seemed so spaced out

Kings of Leon were super as always

To the side of the large stage was a warm up act and my god they were the greatest i have ever seen

A Great Big World. 2014 Bush Hall London. They were AMAZING. Went with my friend and we had dinner at their dining room next door which is now shut. Saw Jake and Paul who were doing XF that year. Jake sang Say Something for his audition.
The band were amazing and came out front to sign autographs after. My goddaughter loves them too but was at school the next day so unable to come. They wrote her a lovely message.

Oh just thought of another one. Spandau Ballet in the early 80's at St Georges Hall in Bradford. Again not bothered about going but everyone else was so I went along and they were absolutely brilliant and I became a huge fan.

Those were the days when Arena gigs weren't really a thing so generally gigs were better i think.

@Foxlover46 I completely agree. He is so talented. I've actually had the piss ripped out of me for loving his music so much but I just direct them to gfy on Spotify I only really got into him after he released the tickets album, now I absolutely love every record he's ever done!

I saw him on the mainstream sellout tour but defo planning on seeing him every time he comes to my town now!

It's the 5 year anniversary of Hotel Diablo this year year too so he's planning something epic for that 🤩
Where did you go for the mainstream tour ? I went to Birmingham then was lucky enough to go to the royal Albert hall last may , I can't wait for him to come back to us over here!
I think people are starting to see he's not the prick the media would have you believe ! So lovely to meet a fellow fan EST4LIFE ❌❌

My favourite band is Hanson. Last year they were the warm up act for Busted on their tour. I travelled from Cornwall to London on my own to see them. I only went to see Hanson (I also won a meet a great). I wouldn't have gone to see a Busted concert. Turns out I really enjoyed Busted and also the first support act The Tyne (who I had never heard of before) as well.

Stumbled into George Clinton and the P-Funk All-Stars at a festival over 20 years ago.

Oh My Fucking God. Mind blown.

They're always fucking awesome 😎

Shook re the chilli peppers

That was a life dream to see them :/

Don't bother. They're so disappointing

Tinytigertail · 01/07/2024 21:27

thisisasurvivor · 30/06/2024 23:02

I did google the warm up acts

These guys were on the tiny dj stage and not named in the official line up

Aghhh they made my weekend

They are The Cuban Brothers, they are fantastic aren't they? I've seen them a few times at BST over the years. You can follow them on Insta.

Will Young. He was playing a concert very local so I thought ok. He was fantastic. His voice sounded perfect. Loved every second. Very chatty with the audience and very appreciative that people still wanted to see him perform after nearly 20 years on from pop idol #feeling oldnow

Will Young is always excellent , a bit strange at times but his voice is always brilliant . We’ve seen him loads of times live .

Charlierae · 01/07/2024 22:07

We saw Arctic Monkeys in Bristol last year. I was so disappointed- felt exactly like they came, sang, left. No soul. Felt worse as they cost a bloody fortune too!

Then we saw Dadi Freyr in December with my partner and Our daughter and he was brilliant. I knew none of his songs but it didn’t matter. He just held the stage, was funny, talented and engaging.

interestingly, the support acts for Arctic Monkeys were much better- although one of them was The Hives!

Thatsallfolkshaha · 01/07/2024 22:12

I agree with a PP Madness are really entertaining live

Thatsallfolkshaha · 01/07/2024 22:13

I also agree with pp saying the Chilli Peppers were awful. One of, if not the, worst band I've seen.

3peassuit · 01/07/2024 22:20

I saw Patti Smith (supported by the Stranglers) in concert at the Hammersmith Odeon the best part of 50 years ago. Patti was amazing, I’ve never been so awed by a performance.

Iwasjustasking · 01/07/2024 22:27

I agree with a pp, Beyoncé was awful, no interaction, late on stage and just didn’t enjoy it!
the best for me were tinie tempeh, I think supporting the script a few years ago? He was amazing! Also thirty seconds to mars always put on an amazing gig!
just thought at v festival one year one of our party wanted to see bastille, I wasn’t fussed but omg they were amazing!

Vespanest · 02/07/2024 09:04

I enjoyed Beyoncé but she headlined a mixed artist line up, sang a few bangers, brought out Jay Z and left. I’ve liked quite a few supports more than the main act and I have wondered if it’s because it’s short and sweet. Saw Paul Heaton not long ago, nostalgia and a great voice made him much better than when I originally saw the Beautiful South

TM1979 · 02/07/2024 09:29

I’ve just remembered Sam Fender in Dublin last summer. What a performance, he’s amazing! 🤩

I had the exact opposite experience. Saw him at a very local concert several years ago, it was the year he was on Strictly Come Dancing and then resigned really early -- he announced his participation during the local concert. And he was just... weird. Driving around the stage on a mobility scooter, wearing one of those tinfoil blanket things as a cape, wearing a really open weave, snot-green jumper with no t-shirt underneath it, we were really concerned for him actually. In his heyday someone said to me "the thing about Will Young is that he doesn't need it the way everyone else does. One day he'll just walk away and never look back." That turned out to not be true, he felt very needy of the audience that day but noone was giving anything back because...it was just weird. The songs were still decent songs of course, but that's not what we're talking about.

After he resigned from Strictly I saw an interview with him, might have been Graham Norton, and he (Will) said he had a brain injury that gave him PTSD around performing, and I thought "ah, that explains it, I hope he'll be ok". He said he was going to learn how to build dry stone walls and he was really looking forward to it, so I thought "good for him".

So I am surprised to hear he's doing really well with it now. Based on your comment about "nearly 20 years after Pop Idol" I think this is more recent; it was a while ago I saw him. [Just googled him, he was on Strictly in 2016.] But if he's doing well enough to give a really great show, and it turns out he's also on tour this year, then good for him. Glad he's doing better.

Floralnomad · 03/07/2024 11:00

@unmowngrass he usually does dress up in some weird costume , a couple of years ago he came out for part of the show dressed as a boat and on a previous occasion he had a pair of step ladders with a plank between them and sat on that singing . Often people who’ve not seen him before don’t ’get him’ . He also often cuts shows short , doesn’t do encores and won’t sing Evergreen even on the same tour .

Springwatch123 · 03/07/2024 12:50

I’ve seen him twice in last few years, once at a festival and once on tour. I booked the second concert because he was so good first time. We found him charismatic, engaging, comical - a real showman. Can’t remember whether he sang Evergreen, but it’s not one if my favourites of his (Leave right now).

Oh that’s a shame. Hope he comes back to Ireland soon. So disappointed he’s not doing EP this year.

I agree with TS, the joy for me was being with my teen and her friends who had a brilliant time. Felt privileged to get to dance and sing with my 16yo, probably for the last time in a while!

Yes- exact same- my daughter and her friends all had a ball! Was lovely to see them singing and dancing.

MorrisZapp · 05/07/2024 20:44

Billy Joel. Made Wembley feel like an intimate piano bar on the Lower East Side. Absolutely breathtaking.

He had gospel singers on for 'In the Middle of the Night' and turned it into a ten minute, hands in the air, euphoric anthem. Unforgettable.

Gotthetshirt1 · 14/07/2024 11:21

First time at BST Hyde Park for Stevie Nicks this weekend and what surprised me most was the massive video screen placed in line with the centre of the stage - so swathes of the crowd could only see her on the screen and not even see a speck of her at all in the distance for the entire show. I know at a 60,000 gig plenty of people will have a fairly rubbish view but at least at a stadium you can actually see the artist, if only from quite far away. I do loads of big gigs and never seen a huge screen in the middle blocking sight of the stage for thousands of people. If i wanted to watch her on a screen id just stick YouTube on for free. She sounded great though 🤣. Absolute ripoff.

Paloma Faith at Hammersmith last week. Man, that girl can belt them out. She's bloody funny too.
