Just back from Kings of Leon at BST Hyde park

What a lovely venue

Have been dying to see Paulo Nutini for a long time and he just seemed so spaced out

Kings of Leon were super as always

To the side of the large stage was a warm up act and my god they were the greatest i have ever seen

Elbow were brilliant
Stone roses-not great vocals, but great show so forgiven
Arctic monkeys were good

murasaki · 30/06/2024 23:17

My boss had free tickets to Erasure, so me, her and another colleague went. l wasn't that keen.

Best gig ever.

Chilli peppers at Reading. Fucking awful.

Flaming lips about 10 years ago... unreal. Unreal.

Opposite end of the scale in terms of show: mariachi el bronx in a tiny venue in Stoke on trent. Amazing.

Nooooooo
Why were they Bad?

Years ago I went to see Robbie Williams at Knebworth and one of the supports was The Darkness. They were absolutely bloody amazing and I enjoyed their set so much! Absolute showmen! Does anybody remember Orson? I got tickets for them via a friend who couldn't go and because it was near I went. They were fantastic! So much so I bought another pair of tickets on the eBay for a London gig a week later. I wish they'd not split. They were such a great band and didn't have a single rubbish song.

Need to start listening to the darkness again

Some really surprising acts at Glastonbury’s of old. Dandy Warhols were great, we were on the way to the loo, stopped and decided to delay loo break as this song was great, then we ended up staying for the whole set, so many great songs! Really loved Rod Stewart, would never have got tickets for him, but he was a master showman, loved it.

Feeder were great for a few years, saw them 2 or 3 times and then one year they were just going through the motions, same songs but not engaging.

I wasn’t interested in Bowie, then fell in love with him on stage!

I saw the Red hot chilli peppers in 2003/2004 when I was a teen and they were so shit live. Literally played their set very poorly and left. There was no interaction with the audience.

Winky2024 · 30/06/2024 23:23

@Floralnomad absolutely agree about Cher. Amazing live. I turned to my husband at one point and asked if she was really singing and not miming 😂

Absolutely fantastic.

thisisasurvivor · 30/06/2024 23:23

Shook re the chilli peppers

That was a life dream to see them :/

I really enjoyed Chilli Peppers at Reading! Memory is a bit hazy though, I was probably quite drunk.

SquashPenguin · 30/06/2024 23:25

@TheFormidableMrsC I saw The Darkness headline in Cardiff (I think around 2004?) and they were so good. I still listen to them now and again!

I saw Beast in Black support Nightwish back in 2022. Been to see them twice on their own tours since. Saxon supporting Judas Priest were very good back in March.

Winky2024 · 30/06/2024 23:26

Loved Noel Gallagher. Turns up on time, no naff support. Does the gig and buggers off on time!

A very relaxing concert for the audience. No diva behaviour…oh and he can sing 😊

wonderstuff · 30/06/2024 23:27

I saw Paramore at the Taylor Swift gig, really really enjoyed that. Never heard them before and they absolutely rocked.

When I was about 18 I somehow ended up going to see Madness at the old London Arena, (2002/3 ish so not in their heyday) there were about half a dozen of us and the rest of the crowd were mainly old enough to be our parents. It was bloody brilliant, it was one of the most fun gigs I've ever been to. I still have a t-shirt I bought that night that says fuck art let's dance which really summed up the evening.

I have a vague feeling we ended up with the tickets because someone's dad got them then couldn't go so we bought them off him for about £15 each

You jammy bugger!

KatPurrson · 30/06/2024 23:31

Also the Happy Mondays. They surprised me two ways. How loose they were. And also how much it all still worked gloriously because of that looseness rather than despite it.

MancMa · 30/06/2024 23:32

Went to see the Happy Mondays, average at best but expected that, but were supported by Stereo MCs who were great. Paloma Faith was one of the acts at a radio station concert I went to a few years back, hadn’t really heard of her bur loved it and now a fan.

RobynRB · 30/06/2024 23:33

Mayhem in London in 1997. Saw a guy getting a blowjob in the bar, upstairs before the gig started... then the singer spent the gig cutting himself with a knife and throwing razor blades into the crowd.

Vespanest · 30/06/2024 23:33

My best concerts have probably been when my expectations are lower, with the exception of Radiohead and Oasis. Recently although I like the script never wanted to see them live but they were amazing as Pink support act. My best concerts have been multiple act, net aid with George Michael and David Bowie and chime for change not a fan of John legend but his live vocals are breathtaking and Florence and the machine she has great stadium songs. Elton John not my cup of tea but it was a good concert.

Will Young. He was playing a concert very local so I thought ok. He was fantastic. His voice sounded perfect. Loved every second. Very chatty with the audience and very appreciative that people still wanted to see him perform after nearly 20 years on from pop idol #feeling oldnow

Tickytocky · 30/06/2024 23:36

@Vespanest yes I thought The Script were amazing at the Pink concert last week ! We also had Gayle and she was just awful

Avatartar · 30/06/2024 23:39

The Eagles- went along as v well known, expecting it to be ok. Blown away, complete other level, they took the crowd somewhere special, can’t articulate it really. Was thinking am I really here

Vespanest · 30/06/2024 23:39

Gayle and the DJ had me worried as they both sounded base heavy, just vibrating mess.

Invent · 30/06/2024 23:42

Seth Lakeman.
After 2 nights of listening to turgid folk music at a festival , I nearly didn't make it out my tent. I was there supporting crew, not a fan of folk music of any kind (metal head)

Seth turned out to be fantastic. A violin as devastating as any guitar. Kick ass musically and ad fit as. Bloody brilliant.

HRTQueen · 30/06/2024 23:50

James Brown. I was young and my friends cool aunt offered us tickets. We just liked the idea of going out with her in London we were not that keen about seeing the old man in a dodgy wig (even though I new a number of his records as my dance teacher loved him)

he was absolutely excellent phenomenal

Neil Diamond I went with my ex he took his parents as a present. Absolutely brilliant

I saw Paulo Nutini him he first came out he was really good

Jamie Cullum was excellent

Saw The Darkness in Dublin last year - they were brilliant! Justin Hawkins is such a showman, and the playing his guitar behind his back etc was genius!
