Just back from Kings of Leon at BST Hyde park

What a lovely venue

Have been dying to see Paulo Nutini for a long time and he just seemed so spaced out

Kings of Leon were super as always

To the side of the large stage was a warm up act and my god they were the greatest i have ever seen

Bon Iver at Leeds First Direct. Went as designated driver and wasn't expecting much. Not much of a fan. All a bit same-y. Cheap seats up in the gods.

It was absolutely bloody awesome.

Will Young. He was playing a concert very local so I thought ok. He was fantastic. His voice sounded perfect. Loved every second. Very chatty with the audience and very appreciative that people still wanted to see him perform after nearly 20 years on from pop idol #feeling oldnow

Yes, a lot more charismatic and engaging than I expected and a superb concert.

The Eagles- went along as v well known, expecting it to be ok. Blown away, complete other level, they took the crowd somewhere special, can’t articulate it really. Was thinking am I really here

You need to see The Illegal Eagles, more than just a cover band. However, they should carry a government health warning, because once you’ve seen them once, you’ll book tickets to see them again (and I’m much yo young to be in their usual demographic).

We saw The Killers supported by Travis a few weeks ago, didn't enjoy The killers as much as I thought I would but LOVED Travis!

I saw Paulo Nutini about 10 years ago and thought he was fab.

Noosnom · 01/07/2024 10:03

This was years ago, but Goldie Lookin Chain. So much fun. (And I've seen prince a few times, who was obviously incredible).

MissingMoominMamma · 01/07/2024 10:04

Beautiful South- absolutely awful (we walked out- they were hungover and couldn’t be arsed). Their warm up act were The Bare Naked Ladies- bloody brilliant!!

Supporting Paul Weller a couple of summers ago were Far From Saints (Kelly Jones). I’ve seen them twice since; they’re just fabulous.

Suede in the 90s. The sexiest gig I’ve ever been to 😳😁.

KreedKafer · 01/07/2024 10:07

Many years ago we went to see Belle & Sebastian in a small venue with a (then) completely unknown support act. We arrived just as the support act were coming on and were absolutely blown away by them. They were Franz Ferdinand. Loved them them ever since.

I went to see Loyle Carner in Dublin tonight. Standing only. I took my 2 teens. I was expecting to get them in place then loiter at the back but he was so good I stayed at the front for the whole concert.

Agreed about Erasure. I loved them and went to see them 4 times when I was younger. I think Deacon Blue was the best I ever went to with low expectations. The energy was amazing!

This is good to hear as I'm going next week after buying DP tickets for Xmas and was of the thinking that whilst I'm sure he'll be good I'm not too bothered about going so it's interesting to hear you really enjoyed it!

Wow, what a very different experience to mine.

Saw them back in the late 70s and was bored to death with the show.

Might just as well have stayed home, put on a CD and stared at a poster on the wall, the level of animation would have been the same.

anon2022anon · 01/07/2024 10:11

Pink puts on one of the best shows you'll see in your life. It's amazing one person can do all she does.

Steps- seen them several times, and each time is a brilliant atmosphere, dance from start to end, and there's some bloody good singers in the band!

Springwatch123 · 01/07/2024 10:12

Went to Lets Rock 80s festival a couple years back. The standout act was definitely Bananarama. I was never really into their music back in the day, but those girls have still got it. They were superb.

anon2022anon · 01/07/2024 10:13

Not as good as imagined- Beyonce. There was little to no interaction with the crowd, you could tell even the little thank you speeches were rehearsed. Amazing voice, obviously! But I came away with no sense of her as a person.

Some really surprising acts at Glastonbury’s of old. Dandy Warhols were great, we were on the way to the loo, stopped and decided to delay loo break as this song was great, then we ended up staying for the whole set, so many great songs! Really loved Rod Stewart, would never have got tickets for him, but he was a master showman, loved it.

Feeder were great for a few years, saw them 2 or 3 times and then one year they were just going through the motions, same songs but not engaging.

I wasn’t interested in Bowie, then fell in love with him on stage!

@wonderstuff Rod Stewart was probably one of the most disappointing concerts i've been to - c10 years ago. He was barely on stage - it was mostly dancing girls, saxophone players and then a weird shooting thing at the end

Most surprising in a good way - Barry Manilow!!!

ComeOnThenFanny · 01/07/2024 10:32

Went to see James Taylor with my dad.for his birthday, probably about 30 years ago. I really couldn't be arsed, but it was the most emotional, amazing concert. Cried my eyes out. He engaged so well with the audience, and absolutely moved everyone there. Just fantastic.

ComeOnThenFanny · 01/07/2024 10:35

I mean, if we're mentioning the greatest gigs ever - I was lucky enough to see Kate Bush in 2014 - and it was actually one of the best nights of my life ❤️

BigDahliaFan · 01/07/2024 10:39

Bryan adams….went because got free tickets, no expectations, not my thing at all. Bloody brilliant, one of the best concerts I’ve been. Everyone was up for it, small venue, amazing voice and he was primed to entertain.

worst, van Morrison, no engage At all, sang by numbers, walked off stage.

Rubyupbeat · 01/07/2024 10:57

@BagFullOfNoodles
Omgoodness, I have that same t-shirt, but from seeing them in the early 80's.

Agree with Deacon Blue I used to work on the phone sales side of Sony years back and a colleague won tickets to see them at Brixton academy and knew I was a huge fan so gave them both to me , they were fantastic

Agree with this. Went to see them at the International in Manchester mid 80's with a friend who was a huge fan. I wasn't particularly bothered but they were brilliant as were their support Fairground Attraction with the excellent Eddie Reader.

Went to see them again in Leeds last year and again brilliant. Downloaded Raintown after the gig and just found it ok. Definitely a better band live.

I know a couple of people who were lucky enough to go in 2014 and they said the same. I've loved her since the first time Wuthering Heights was played on the radio and am so hoping she gigs again some day.

Vespanest · 01/07/2024 11:29

I was far too selective in my 20s, it took till late 30s for me to realise that music I like to listen to doesn’t guarantee a great live experience. My worst concert was Suzanne Vega, what was I thinking. Paul Weller was good but deep down it wasn’t The Jam although at that concert Ian Dury sang hit me with you rhythm stick which was a crowd experience. I was lucky to see Queen with Freddie but was too young to understand or appreciate.

They should be on the legends slot at next year’s Glastonbury

Loreli1983 · 01/07/2024 11:39

Stereophonics were huge when I was in my teens. My friends and I loved them. They all.went to a huge outdoor concert to see them but I was unable to because of my Saturday job. I was gutted. Everyone local who went to this outdoor concert raved about it- still do years later...We all saw them a couple of years ago in Cardiff and I was so disappointed. There just wasn't a great atmosphere. I so wish I had just not gone to work that day when I was 15!

OOh! I am dead jealous!!!!

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 01/07/2024 11:51

Saw Coldplay at Wembley in 2016 back and know they're known for their staging and lights and whatever else but didn't think it'll be so impressive and as fun as it was. He knows how to work a crowd

Barenaked Ladies..again never seen but heard about their gigs and talks and whatever else but was so much fun!! Loved their little improvised rap and just generalness

Chill Peppers..not sure what it was but agree with what others have said. Disappointed
