I just mixed some stuffing (paxo - nothing fancy) for this evening's dinner, and then decided to make a cup of tea. While it was brewing, I picked up the spoon and was about to lick it... and then realised at the very last millisecond that I'd picked up the other spoon on the side. The one which I had used a few minutes earlier to dish up the cat food.😂

Please tell me I am not the only person who does this sort of thing!

what does the stuffing have to do with anything?

Because it was the spoon I'd used to make the stuffing that I was going to lick, obviously.
Confused

ah
so spoon went in stuffing
then cat food
then you made tea and went to lick it?

To be fair you didn’t mention the cat food until the end, and then added in the irrelevant tea making.
It wasn’t an easy story to follow..

I think there were 2 spoons? One cat food, one stuffing. Possibly a rough tea spoon mixed in too.

TWO spoons. Dessert spoons. One I used for the stuffing, the other I had earlier used for the cat food.

I don't use a dessert spoon in my tea. That would be silly.

bloody hell talk about making f a story necessarily complicated!

So you thought you were licking the paxo spoon

two spoons OP. a relevant detail 😆

A very easy story to follow and exactly something I would do!! Lucky you caught yourself in time op. Although is a paxo spoon good to lick?

well we’ve got clarity now haven’t we!

Singleandproud · 30/06/2024 16:47

I followed it, perhaps because I've been in similar situations before, although it wasn't cat food just the spoon the cat had licked.

WinterWonder · 30/06/2024 16:51

could be worse, I’m in bed feeling awful because my OH accidentally made the pesto with mixed nuts (am allergic to) instead of pine nuts (not allergic to). I only had 1/2 a teaspoon but I’ve felt awful. He’s been pensively standing over me for 2 hours clutching the adrenaline

ru53 · 30/06/2024 16:53

Not exactly the same but I once took a huge swig of neat vinegar that for some reason my mum was keeping in an old apple squash bottle!

what’s nuts even doing in your house?!

FlutteryButterfly · 30/06/2024 16:53

Yep, followed and understood also.

You got lucky this time OP, wash your spoons immediately after use in future...... 😝

ru53 · 30/06/2024 16:54

@WinterWonder I hope you feel better soon. Your DH must feel so guilty

Megifer · 30/06/2024 16:57

I followed it easily, but probably because.....i almost can't bring myself to admit it.....

But yes op, I know what you mean and I could cry when it pops into my head. But more because what I mixed it up with was a gravy spoon, and it didn't taste horrible.....

WinterWonder · 30/06/2024 17:05

@ru53 thanks
@trextape he bought a pack of what he thought were pine nuts, which are actually a seed so people with nut allergies aren’t usually allergic to them.
i do actually let the family have nuts at home, but we have very strict precautions around them. Obviously these weren’t followed because he didn’t think they were nuts

SoupDragon · 30/06/2024 17:08

The story is perfectly easy to follow!

NeverDropYourMooncup · 30/06/2024 17:08

No sympathy, OP. You should have, like everybody else, a Cat Food FORK. You know, that old fork that doesn't match anything else, is horrible to use for anything but distributing meatblobs - and your DP occasionally gives to you when the dishwasher hasn't finished and he can't be arsed to do manual washing up. Never seems to absentmindedly give it to himself, though...

IncompleteSenten · 30/06/2024 17:09

I made my brother in law a coffee with beef gravy instead of coffee granules.

I noticed as I was stirring it though so just made him an actual coffee and didn't say anything. They'd have taken the piss for weeks. 😁

I blame my husband for never putting shit away. Gravy sat next to the kettle first thing in the morning. I'm surprised I even noticed.

UtterlyOtterly · 30/06/2024 17:12

I understood easily because it is the sort of thing I might do.

Making a pan of soup. Sorting the laundry. Two easy, everyday things. Until I poured a capful of fabric conditioner into the soup...

Yes, but not if you have left it too long and it's gone crusty. Dried-on Paxo stuffing mix is very nearly as impenetrable as dried-on Weetabix.
