Should I make myself sick? Horrible nausea and stomach ache

Hello, I haven’t eaten a lot today but stupidly ate too much this evening pizza and a mixed bean salad and some coleslaw.

I’ve had my gallbladder out 10 years ago, I’m very very bloated I’m desperately tired and can’t sleep. My tummy hurts so much, I’ve been to the toilet 4 times now.

i do suffer from IBS so I imagine it’s the bean salad that has triggered it. I feel really sick like I want to be sick and I know I could be easily sick if I make myself sick.

any advice welcomed.

I would op. I'd just want it up and out of my system. You will probably feel better for it. I hope you feel better soon

WearyAuldWumman · 30/06/2024 00:56

The last time I was like that, I'd had a baked potato with 3 bean chilli and sliced red cabbage from the M&S cafe. I also have IBS.

Colofac helped to an extent, but in the end, I had to be sick.

AliceMcK · 30/06/2024 00:56

I have done many times, it’s definitely better out than in.

I’ve also successfully suppressed the vomiting by taking anti nausea meds and/or apple cider vinegar.

I have a lot of gastro issues so tried all sorts over the years. Getting out is absolutely the fastest route.

Yes a multi bean salad and a very red cabbage coleslaw - I’ve been sick which I think has given some relief from the nausea at least, now back on the loo trying the other end for the 10th time, lots of gurgles and like things are moving a bit.

Terrible pelvic floor so totally wet myself being sick. What a bloody mess I am!

thanks for the good wishes. Hate having all these stomach issues.

Hope it has passed now! There's something to be said for exhaustion after illness, at least it leaves you drowsy.

AliceMcK · 30/06/2024 01:48

Nothing wrong with curling into a ball in the shower with a towel over you and let it come on what ever way it needs to.

ive tried suppressing diarrhoea but it never works, I always find there is no point trying to stop the inevitable.

a good wash after then curl up in a warm bed.

AirportObs · 30/06/2024 01:51

Not passed sadly but working its way out. Trapped wind is releasing now, never having mixed beans and all that wheat/fat again. What was I thinking?!!!

I find that a heat pack sometimes helps the tummy.

And yes, AirportObs, I feel your pain...I'm never eating the combination again. I've since tried the Fodmap diet - it's helped.

AirportObs · 30/06/2024 01:54

@WearyAuldWumman I was just thinking I need to go low fodmap again. Had a week away and ate so well. Back in England and back to making silly decisions. So frustrated and I know beating myself up and the stress won’t be helping my tummy either!!!

Get some Buscopan & peppermint oil capsules, they are brilliant when you feel stuffed.

Been there....You go low fodmap, everything's fine and you get overconfident. And yes - you're right: the stress will make it worse.

AirportObs · 30/06/2024 06:02

Well I finally got to sleep I think about 230 and now of course up again. Feeling weak, plenty of wind (sorry tmi) back on the toilet.

frustrating I had lots of jobs to do today but feel weak and tired. Hoping to be able to fall asleep again.

Beans/legumes are my absolute nemesis. I now tell people I have lactose intolerance but for a sugar in beans because they're just horrendous. Managed to reintroduce everything excluded from the low fodmap diet except legumes.

I'd recommend having windeze (simethicone) in for occasions when it all goes wrong. It helps a lot. I usually end up combining it with omeprazole (particularly good if you do end up being sick as at least it doesn't burn your throat), plus mebeverine and buscopan. I don't usually take anti diarrhea medicine unless I need to go out because I generally want whatever I've eaten out as soon as possible.

AirportObs · 30/06/2024 06:24

Thanks @Ineffable23 generally whatever I eat in be morning means I need quick access to the loo, the cramping, sweating, nausea and immediate need to just dump starts no matter when I eat, I do wait until about 11-12 because it’s worse if I eat first thing. Think I need to go the GP and get some meds.

Throat is burnt this morning, empty stomach is cramping and it’s painful. Want to sleep.

🤞 you get some sleep. Don't worry if you're not up to much today.

I had a bad night's sleep, tending to fall asleep during the evening then being awake all night. I also drank too much water so I'm getting fed up of loo trips!

AirportObs · 30/06/2024 06:27

Need to get so much done @CalicoPusscat so many jobs planned! Will try my best to rest. Thank you: hope you’re ok.

Just to say that while I do get my meds from the GP, most of those are available over the counter so if you don't need them too often it can be doable via a pharmacy - often online being cheaper. E.g. you can get pretend gaviscone online very cheaply. Simethicone I am not prescribed at all and it really helps with trapped wind and you can just buy it from boots or whatever.

AirportObs · 30/06/2024 09:56

@Ineffable23 thank you super helpful. I did fall back to sleep again around 7am.

I needed this rest!

exhausted.

AirportObs · 30/06/2024 17:53

Thanks @Ineffable23 it is… @WearyAuldWumman if you’ve found any long term solutions that would be helpful to know

Have you managed to eat anything yet?

oakleaffy · 30/06/2024 18:00

@AirportObs I don’t have IBS BUT last week had terrible cramping pain and wind

Puked hard and squits

Norovirus.

Been doing rounds.

I had very bad wind and pain with it and exhaustion.

You could have had Norovirus- it’s at a 5 yr high .

AirportObs · 30/06/2024 18:28

Hello I’ve managed a little cracker, I’m okish with it.

i don’t think it’s norovirus I’ve had that before and it was a bit different in that I don’t remember sweating and shaking like this
