Why do you need to look 'wealthy'? Context will help...

MooonDreamer · 28/06/2024 21:45

There are loads of threads like this if you search

Lentilweaver · 28/06/2024 21:57

Don't wear polyester. Even recycled polyester.

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/06/2024 21:58

Make a dress from your nicest curtains.

Overtheatlantic · 28/06/2024 21:58

Good hair
short manicure
clothes in high quality fabrics

TheButteredBiscuit · 28/06/2024 21:59

Don’t try to do that

Xyz1234567 · 28/06/2024 22:00

Why? I'm well off but am quite happy looking like a tramp!

bellamountain · 28/06/2024 22:04

Wear head to toe black and sunglasses.

Dracuuule · 28/06/2024 22:04

Be slim
Have good hair
Wear stylish plain clothes in natural fabrics
Have good shoes
Have a good handbag

ToBeOrNotToBee · 28/06/2024 22:09

It's the small details.
Having hair well done. Nails manicured. Lips and eyes, not necessarily full make up, but dry lips are a massive give away.
A smell good. Not necessarily expensive perfume, but not cheap either.

llamajohn · 28/06/2024 22:09

Mostly down to grooming.

No fake anything

No logos.

paasll · 28/06/2024 22:10

Why do you want to look wealthy?

It's better to look ordinary. We British have a healthy hatred for wealthy people for some reason.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 28/06/2024 22:13

Why? Who are you trying to con? 🤣

Itsdefinitelytimeforanamechange · 28/06/2024 22:15

I have a mum friend like this. Chic. Clothes look new all the time. No bobbles, marks, stains or signs of wear. Clean, high end trainers. No logos. Simple outfits and clean lines. Great hair and makeup. Expensive leggings and coats! (She is wealthy by the way!)

Mum2jenny · 28/06/2024 22:16

Why do you care? Just be yourself!

JFDIYOLO · 28/06/2024 22:29

Cheap prints look cheap. Go for plain colour or monochrome instead, and natural fibres such as wool, linen, cotton, silk.

Invest in good quality silk and cashmere scarves to wear with them.

Good shoes.

Buy less, buy better.

Well fitting underwear.

Avoid obvious costume jewellery until you ARE wealthy - discreet gold & pearl pieces suggest low key money.

StarDolphins · 28/06/2024 22:43

I don’t look poor (nor wealthy). I earn £13k part-time. I have very nice clothes, nice perfume, footwear (docs, comme de garçons mainly) shop organic at Waitrose etc(I know those things aren’t for wealthy folk!).

But, i only shop Vinted/charity shops & I hardly go out, I am more than frugal & the only things I buy new are underwear, perfume & groceries!

MsCactus · 28/06/2024 22:46

All black clothing looks good, even if it's cheap material. Go up a size so nothing is tight. Follow the latest fashions - so loose trousers rather than skinny or tight, button up black shirt.

Makeup can be very cheap - so high street makeup, again following the latest styles. Less is more.

Simple. Elegant. Blow dried, glossy hair - wash and style it everyday.

Be slim & in shape. Light tan. Take a multivitamin. Try to drink plenty of water and sleep 9 hours.

Have a fake, expensive looking handbag and accessories against your black clothes

At my child’s school (and my place of work too) the one thing that separates the wealthier women to those less well off is their weight. The more affluent women are all slim, the ones struggling financially are all overweight. I won’t say which camp I’m in.

This is always very triggering on here, but I agree. I have put on about 3 stone in the last 5 years and I could do all of the above and still not look good. I'm an apple too, with no bust which is always worse. I know a few people who are overweight, but their body is proportional so they carry it much better and still look really good.
Conversely I know of a few very thin women who look absolutely awful, and they could do all of the above and still not look good either. They are 'poor' thin rather than wealthy slim and toned. Just goes to show you that generational wealth makes such a difference to the genes.

Somethingsnappy · 28/06/2024 23:03

Go about with a couple of black labradors, and flash your copy of 'horse & hound' around.

RogueFemale · 28/06/2024 23:14

I'd say slim/lightly athletic figure, and shiny good hair is the most important. Short manicured nails. Good teeth.

Clothes lower down the list, but no obviously branded stuff, no fleece, no puffa coats. Good fabrics such as pure linen or cashmere, etc. Shop on Vinted, never buy new.

WayOutOfLine · 28/06/2024 23:28

Go on Vinted, if you know the brands you like, search that, otherwise put in your size and put in 'cotton' 'linen' or whatever, and then find nice natural fabric outfits in key colours that you like depending on your preference. I think white and cream look good, black and navy, the odd pattern, but in the main don't buy any more polyester and don't buy printed stuff unless you absolutely love the pattern and can put it with something good (e.g. white t-shirt or shirt).

You can look around charity shops but they often aren't carrying recent stuff around here and so the jackets/trousers look a bit dated. I do still find the odd bargain though!

Leather shoes and bag (new or Vinted).

You won't necessarily look 'wealthy' but you will look well-put together.
