its very hard to look wealthy without actual wealth as the key factors involve money and spare time. It’s the year round glow from all the holidays & lower stress levels that makes the difference.

WayOutOfLine · 28/06/2024 23:37

@Radiatorrung I agree to some extent, but you can use some fake tan and do a bit of deep breathing/relaxation exercises and it does help a bit!

Summertimer · 28/06/2024 23:43

The wealthy and posh don’t make any outward display of wealth apart from independent school

Femme2804 · 28/06/2024 23:45

i dont think i’m in wealthy category but i’m a SAHM and have very comfortable life and I always try to look put together and look polished.

i do agree rich people are really good maintaining their weight. Lots of my friend who are wealthy all of them join gym and very fit meanwhile I know some people who in the bottom end are obese but like to wear tank top or revealing clothes. i just have a baby and now i’m size 16 and i’m trying to lose weight now so i can look more put together.

  1. i dont buy any polyester
  2. modest clothing
  3. do not shop in primark (all the quality are very bad, eventhough the have cute clothes and that ‘old money’ style but i can tell its cheap fabric).
  4. vinted vinted vinted
  5. smart shopping. Rather than buy lots of clothes its better to spend 1 in really good quality clothes.
  6. dainty accessories
  7. no logo in anywhere
  8. Avoid Michael Kors please. Its very chavvy
  9. always use clean shoes
  10. always iron your clothes before going out
  11. nice makeup, clean hair
  12. use nice perfume
  13. please dont do russian eyelash extensions or lip filler. Its looks cheap.
  14. do your nails but with natural shape (oval or square) and nice nudes colour. Not crazy long nails with all crazy designs.
  15. maintain straight posture
  16. not swearing
JFDIYOLO · 28/06/2024 23:49

There was a couple maybe 40s in my local indie cafe yesterday and the second I saw them I thought 'money'. Both casually dressed, slim, wearing cool clearly linen clothes, him in Bermuda shorts & shirt, her in a loose flowing dress, shades of navy and grey, nice sunglasses, leather sandals. So simple and understated.

Older men? Not ime.

Go about with a couple of black labradors, and flash your copy of 'horse & hound' around.

🤣🤣
I’d go for elegance rather than wealth. With a bit of fun thrown in so be a bit more experimental at times.
Elegance is lighter and it’s about wearing simple, but well made clothes. Tbh, it can be really expensive to look elegant but I think these things help:

  1. well-fitting bra
  2. natural fabrics as much as possible such as cotton, linen.
  3. Some linen blends are good and less ironing 😊and also some viscose (controversial!)
  4. leather or stylish bag
  5. not too many or no visible logoes
  6. haircut or looked after shiny hair eg deep conditioner now and again, no split ends, nicely dyed if dyed
  7. make up that enhances natural features but not too obvious eg not orange, no slug brows. A bright red lip or pronounced eye make up could be your trademark but have one or the other not both??)
  8. perfume - good quality
  9. try and take care of yourself eg toned body, moisturise skin, water, sleep and vitamins.
  10. add a few less elegant touches, think London street style at times to make it a bit more fun and edgy.(that’s just me - otherwise I get bored).

Wow, it’s a lot. I only manage a few of these at any one time by the way!!

Mercurial123 · 29/06/2024 05:32

It's not possible wear what you love and feel comfortable in.

JFDIYOLO · 29/06/2024 08:16

And things to avoid:

Tattoos, lip fillers, massive eyebrows and eye lashes, excessive fake tan, fake nails, obviously dyed hair.

Overly revealing clothes, slipping bra straps, and as my granny used to say, mutton dressed as lamb.

Those big Stanley cups. Smoking. Doing your personal grooming in public including plucking chin hairs and flossing.

Being loud, raucous, swearing, gossiping, whingeing - basically inconsiderate of other people trying to use this cafe in peace ...

The greatest signifier of wealth round us is cars. The local private school jams the road with mummies in Teslas, with some white Range Rovers.

anunlikelyseahorse · 29/06/2024 10:14

Old wealth or new wealth?
if you want to look old wealth then it's old slightly moth eaten cashmere, or old well washed and faded lightweight cotton top, and cords (trousers or skirt) or comfy stretch denim tied up with bindatwine /bagtie/ bale twine, as a belt, and well worn, but regularly polished loafers or wellies....never trainers! Hair normally either tied back in a slightly careless bun or plait, with stray bits hither and thither, and looking slightly unkept, or short and still looking slightly unkempt, little if any makeup, and hands which are clean, especially under short well kept nails, but show sure signs of gardening work, and two black Labradors, with exceptionally shiny coats, walking to heel. To spot this vanishing breed go to horse, yachting, garden events or spot them skulking in the kitchen gardens of national trust properties (which their families once owned but inheritance tax meant they had to off load them). Car wise, old, but with a full service history estate car, previously Volvo, but the criteria is a large boot for aforementioned black labs, wellies, picnic hamper and vintage Scottish pure wool picnic blanket, no perfume but Roger and Gallet soap.

If you want to look new wealth, then gym bunny physique, immaculately turned out even if just nipping to the shops. Good quality, tailored clothing, comfortable but designed trainers, which doesn't look too much like a trainer, smart designer sandals, with heel (no more than 2inches). A hair style that looks low maintenance, but actually takes a fair amount of work. Well manicured hands with slightly longer nails than old wealthy counter part, as gardeners are employed. A 4x4 or E car which are no more than a few years old. Understated, but 18ct subtle jewellery, and an Apple Watch. dog wise anything with a poo in its title. Subtle perfume and subtle but expensive makeup. Likely to be found at yachting, horse or social events where drinking champagne is mandatory, won't be seen at national trust properties, because they own a similar property!

There's a school mum that I see who I assumed was very wealthy because she drives a brand new mercedes and her husband has a Range Rover. My dd became friendly with her and it transpired that they live in a council estate and neither of them work. The truly wealthy people i know don't drive particularly nice cars.

AdoraBell · 29/06/2024 11:00

Depending what you can afford either manicure with a neutral colour or just keep your nails short, clean and without nail polish.

Similar with clothes and footwear, keep it simple and clean.

chaostherapy · 29/06/2024 11:04

Old wealth or new wealth only one pp pointing out the gaping and very crucial difference?!?
Old wealth are born knowing how to look wealthy on a shoestring and it won't involve buying new stuff.

NC10125 · 29/06/2024 11:10

Round where I live:

Buy the most expensive wellies you can find and cover them in mud

Wear them over a battered pair of Levi’s with holes in them, and a very old but very expensive country tweed type coat

Drive the oldest land rover you can find.

Get an impeccably trained dog and then spend all of your budget on more dog training

Comedycook · 29/06/2024 11:17

Plain colours

Carebearsonmybed · 29/06/2024 11:24

Slimness
Posture
Look real not fake
No fast fashion

Edingril · 29/06/2024 11:37

Don't use fake tan, nails, handbags or straiten your hair or use fillers

Anything fake looks fake

Be yourself

Springwatch123 · 29/06/2024 11:48

Dress in a classic style, blazers rather than cardigans, for example.

Decent haircut.

wear clothes that suit your build and colouring.

Rooftop1 · 30/06/2024 19:25

I'm interested in the all black clothing, does this work?

OP posts:
Springwatch123 · 30/06/2024 19:29

Black wouldn’t work if it’s not one of your colours. I’m an autumn and black wouldn’t work for me. Navy and cream would be a better option.

WayOutOfLine · 30/06/2024 19:30

I think it can work in winter and autumn, but not so much in summer, also the fabric matters, so cotton and linen and wool/cashmere (off Vinted) is good but polyester black looks cheap. Same with shoes, again look on Vinted for leather shoes, often people have tried them on at home and never worn them outside/lightly worn, I don't mind this although some might dislike second-hand shoes. No plastic shoes, no plastic handbags, natural fabrics in black work well, this is quite a good time to shop autumn winter stuff as it will have been sitting there ages and people will be happy with a low offer.

Bassetlover · 30/06/2024 19:33

Oh God, I'd hate to look wealthy if this is what it takes. I'm overweight, love colour and pattern and don't give a shit about designer clothes and bags. Ah well, it's a good job we're not all the same.

Mouswife · 30/06/2024 19:37

Think less is more ….. no logos everywhere and harsh make up..

StormingNorman · 30/06/2024 19:40

RogueFemale · 28/06/2024 23:14

I'd say slim/lightly athletic figure, and shiny good hair is the most important. Short manicured nails. Good teeth.

Clothes lower down the list, but no obviously branded stuff, no fleece, no puffa coats. Good fabrics such as pure linen or cashmere, etc. Shop on Vinted, never buy new.

Surely a Schoeffel fleece waistcoat and a Moncler ski jacket are staples
