Just that!

At my child’s school (and my place of work too) the one thing that separates the wealthier women to those less well off is their weight. The more affluent women are all slim, the ones struggling financially are all overweight. I won’t say which camp I’m in.

Totally agree. I've put on a lot of weight and it wouldn't matter what I did from the above lists, I still wouldn't look wealthy! My posture is shot too, which makes a huge difference.

Money!

Personal trainers, gym memberships, healthier food options tend to to be more expensive, beauty treatments, tweakments and surgeries.

Not forgetting competition…especially if the money is the man’s.

Edited

I've noticed that old money wealth seem to have a stomach the size of a walnut. They go for fairly traditional foods and keep portions small. Three oysters would be an over indulgence. I would never go fine dining as I'd have to get a kebab on the way home, I'd be starving. Generational wealth don't do gym memberships either, they do cold water swims in their plunge pool and pilates with a personal instructor. Marina Fogle to me sums it up.

Dont be fat. Wealthy folk are always slim. I dont know why.

This basically.

It's like the old French adage:

Be old...but be thin.
Be ugly...but be thin.
Be rude...but be thin.

Etc.

The greatest signifier of wealth round us is cars. The local private school jams the road with mummies in Teslas, with some white Range Rovers.

my husband did some work for RR recently and said most people that came to pick up 74 reg plates were leased cars and people looked quite chavvy, so not sure about it

What a gross adage 🤢 Anyway, all the wealthy people I know aren’t slim by any means!

I once heard it said that the thinnest people are poor men and rich women.

The fattest are rich men and poor women.

I think there's an element of truth to it

Make a dress from your nicest curtains.

Excellent. Grin

The most non-posh people I know have the most expensive and the swankiest, cleanest cars...a white range rover type is a classic.

The smartest people I know have the dirtiest scruffiest cars. They just don't care!

Well, I'm French and never heard that old adage...

I suppose it depends where you’re based.

Barbour waxed jacket
High quality fabric (cotton, cashmere and silk etc.) No polyester.
Good posture.
I find that navy looks classier than black, others may disagree.
Natural, but well cared for hair.
Ensure your skin and nails are cared for too. There are many great, but affordable skincare products out there. I love the Inkey List!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/01/2025 12:49

Depends IMO whether you want to look classy-wealthy, or just as if you’ve got lots of money.

There is a difference - often a big one!

There's a school mum that I see who I assumed was very wealthy because she drives a brand new mercedes and her husband has a Range Rover. My dd became friendly with her and it transpired that they live in a council estate and neither of them work. The truly wealthy people i know don't drive particularly nice cars.

Yep.
Wealth is seen in your eyes, in the way you behave.
I met people, both men and women, looking really scruffy but you couldn't be mistaken about their class/wealth
