Where is Kamala Harris? Just that, really....

I’m surprised to read on Mumsnet saying she should step up. Have you ever heard her speak? She is dreadful and even more unpopular than Biden.

Hmmm how's this comment ageing? 81 million dollars on first day

I've heard her speak and I thought she was great, Sharp, articulate and passionate. A thousand times better than Trump who can't string two sentences together

Absolutely this.

Any counter-arguments are so easily rebuffed when you set her and her record against Trump.
The Dems are being anti-democratic - well the Republicans are backing someone who didn't even respect the result of the last election and encouraged a violent attempted coup
She's had sex outside marriage - Trump has had 3 wives, numerous affairs and is a sexual predator
She's not liked - Trump is completely loathed by millions
She's not a good speaker - Trump is clearly cognitively challenged.

And so on and on. The Reps have nothing on her other than the usual sexism and racism. She's a champ.

Teddleshon · 23/07/2024 18:07

Must be a different Kamala Harris - she is famous for her “word salads”. There’s a reason why she was polling even worse than Biden.

How many of her speeches have you seen? She's polling better than Biden was now.

Which RW bot do you represent?

OhcantthInkofaname · 23/07/2024 18:27

Ask for word salad Donald Trump called himself a young man yesterday. He is 78.

twodowntwotogo · 23/07/2024 18:29

Tbh it's early days, she has got off to an amazing start in terms of funding and delegate endorsement but:

She's not the official nominee yet - who knows what will happen in the campaign?
The Republicans really don't seem to have much 'on' her - all their arguments against her seem rooted in sexism and racism and BS claims of a coup.

There are far more deeply rooted arguments against Trump. It's ridiculous to say her pointing out his well-known issues of not paying his bills and being a sexual predator ('grab 'em by the pussy' etc) is in any way unfair.

AnotherNew01 · 23/07/2024 18:32

I saw a twitter link to her ‘word salad’. Actually she was talking about being in THIS moment, unburdened by past moments. I thought she had a great point, and apparently it’s a theme that she has repeated as I see other twitter comments on it- including from Julie HB. It’s not word salad, just some words are repeated. Trump on the other hand - is exactly the same as the lampooning versions.

Teddleshon · 23/07/2024 19:18

The unburdened stuff is the least of it and not what I’m referring to. Her musings on space, time etc and various appearances on chat shows are downright weird. And of course her biggest problem is that she’s been the border czar and has utterly failed.

I’m no Trump fan, in fact that’s why I’m depressed she’s the likely candidate - he has got a very good chance of beating her.

CurlewKate · 23/07/2024 19:49

That's where she is!!!

I'd say we need to see her campaign fully, I don't personally find her 'weird'.

twodowntwotogo · 23/07/2024 23:54

It's also heartening (if you want her to win if she's nominated) that she not only raised a huge amount of money in one day, but that it was from 880,000 individual pledges. That shows huge support.

Teddleshon · 24/07/2024 07:36

Her run in 2020 was so poor that despite initially being one of the favourites she ended up withdrawing before even the first primary so it's difficult to see how Kamala Harris is the answer this time around.

Anyway, we won't have long to wait to see how it all plays out.

Some analysts are attributing that to her previous toughness on crime at a time the BLM movement was strongest. I think why she's the answer as such is partly due to the Biden endorsement and her role as VP - she can own Biden's good policies (economy doing great) and carve her own identity. It's notable the other candidates all withdrew so quickly - the Dems want to show their unity so by demonstrating that they're already behind her that helps a lot.

UpThereForThinkingDownThereForDancing · 24/07/2024 13:31

It all does feel like dystopian fiction has arrived though... from Trump getting in, to riot at the White House, to convicted felon and voted back to president again... What next. 😳

DonaldJohnTrump · 24/07/2024 13:35

She's scared of me - bigly.

UpThereForThinkingDownThereForDancing · 24/07/2024 13:54

Hippyhippybake · 24/07/2024 14:48

@twodowntwotogo one thing she will have to "own" for sure is her disastrous management of the border.

HowardTJMoon · 24/07/2024 15:08

She would possibly have done a better job at the border if the MAGA toadies weren't so hell-bent on obstructing all efforts to actually do anything.

That wasn't her job to 'own'. It's a Republican myth that she was in charge of the border.

Kamala Harris Wasn't the ‘Border Czar.’ Here’s What She Did

Harris focused on improving conditions in Central America's Northern Triangle and addressing root causes of migration

https://time.com/7001817/kamala-harris-immigration

Hippyhippybake · 24/07/2024 18:16

Yes, I'm full aware of what her responsibilities were as regards immigration across the southern border - she has failed to improve the situation in any meaningful way.

Teddleshon · 24/07/2024 20:08

In actual fact Kamala's job was far bigger than managing the border ; she was tasked with dealing with the "root causes" of immigration. She barely travelled to Central America and achieved precisely nothing.

This rewriting of history is really quite something - 3 weeks ago we were told Biden was "sharp as a tack" and "the best he's ever been" and he's now been strong armed out of office. Likewise Harris's well documented immigration responsibilities are being widely downplayed by outlets such as CNN now that she has failed in them and unexpectedly is the candidate. All this plays right into Trump's hands.

A significant number of Americans don't share the view that the economy is "doing great" either.
