Where is Kamala Harris? Just that, really....

Well as Biden is addressing the nation tonight 8pm. I'm wondering if he will be standing down. She maybe President sooner than anyone expected.

HowardTJMoon · 24/07/2024 20:24

A significant number of Americans are so rabidly partisan that Biden could arrange for a 50% pay rise and a blow-job for everyone and they'd still say the economy's shit.

In actual fact Kamala's job was far bigger than managing the border ; she was tasked with dealing with the "root causes" of immigration. She barely travelled to Central America and achieved precisely nothing.

This rewriting of history is really quite something - 3 weeks ago we were told Biden was "sharp as a tack" and "the best he's ever been" and he's now been strong armed out of office. Likewise Harris's well documented immigration responsibilities are being widely downplayed by outlets such as CNN now that she has failed in them and unexpectedly is the candidate. All this plays right into Trump's hands.

A significant number of Americans don't share the view that the economy is "doing great" either.

Views on the economy doing great? Maybe they should start looking at facts, such as 3.6 unemployment and the massive infrastructural programmes.
And if the Republicans had actually agreed to bipartisan legislation on the border instead of obstructing it for political gains it might have been better all round.

Thanks to inflation and higher interest rates polls have consistently shown a majority of Americans view the economy as poor. I agree compared to Europe the economy is in great shape but of course a lot of the numbers mask huge inequality.

Republicans were never going to vote in favour of that bill - fundamentally they wanted executive action to solve the problem not legislation.

If republicans were 'never going to vote' for the legislation then why did Lindsey Graham criticise them so much about it in the Senate?

Teddleshon · 25/07/2024 09:06

Graham has been branded a hypocrite on a wide range of issues by both sides. Interestingly though he launched a pretty blistering attack on the Biden government's border policies just last month.

Anyway, according to the latest spin Kamala has nothing to do with it so it's all good.

Hippyhippybake · 25/07/2024 09:13

The bill allowed 5,000 undocumented immigrants to cross every day. The Republicans were very unlikely to support it.

The Senate Republican leaders insisted on a border security agreement, then agreed on a compromise and then refused to vote for it. Trump wanted to exploit it in his campaign. It was utterly cynical of them.

Surely not?

Hippyhippybake · 25/07/2024 11:55

That's the left leaning media interpretation of what happened; I could post endless links from the centre right / right media with a completely different interpretation.

Fortunately we won't have long to wait to see how Harris's campaign plays out.

BIossomtoes · 25/07/2024 11:58

I was being facetious @twodowntwotogo but thank you for the link anyway.

Teddleshon · 25/07/2024 12:24

Yes, too many examples to even begin as far as the Republican view point is concerned but here goes.
