I used to post on here a lot about my mum … I *was* a student at the time.

She has a rare form of early onset dementia and I got a lot of support from MNerrs.

I was in uni and desperately clinging onto my degree, and I got a huge amount of hell from you all to try and stay in my studies. You helped me when I was suicidal, all sorts. You kept me calm the night Mum was diagnosed and many many nights before and after.

Today I graduated with a 2:1 and merit in clinical theory. I’ve got a full time job, I’m six weeks in and loving it.

I am so hugely, enormously thankful.

What an amazing person you must be. To reach out for help when you needed it; to be able to listen and learn and adapt to impossible circumstances; to be resilient and cope with so much change. I hope you are really, really proud of yourself.

krustykittens · 26/06/2024 22:25

Thank you so much; you were all awesome at the time and since! I remember posting on really horrendous nights and just knowing someone was listening even if they were hundreds of miles away was such a huge help.

I remember some of your threads. Believe it or not I was actually thinking about you just the other day and wondering how you were getting on so I'm really glad you posted. Many congratulations to you on your graduation and all the very best with your new job and the future. Flowers

Luckingfovely · 26/06/2024 23:36

I'm sending you so many congratulations and so much pride! I wish for you to carry this feeling always, and know that good things do come out of dark places Smile

chairsaregreen · 26/06/2024 23:40

Congratulations OP, well done!

I relate a little. I was 23 and in my final year of uni when my mum had a severe stroke which left her quite disabled and completely changed all our lives. I'm now in my early 50s and I still feel grief for the version of my mum I lost when I was in my 20s.

Like you, I pushed on and finished my degree and carried on with my career plans and I'm very glad I did. But I know how difficult it must have been for you, so well done, I hope you and others in your life are super proud of you.
