Can you sleep uncovered?

I can't. Even in this heat I need to have a blanket of some sort. Not for warmth! But I need to feel covered, preferably with a bit of weight, so a sheet isn't enough for me.

Currently have a cotton counterpane over me.

Nope - even if it’s just something as tiny as a towel I need to be covered.

am now wondering if cavemen/women had to have a bit of cloth over them

Fontainebleau007 · 25/06/2024 23:10

No I need a blanket . I would rather sweat like a pig than be out of the covers. Too scary! Lol

RosesAndHellebores · 25/06/2024 23:10

Need to he covered. A thin blanket inside the duvet cover works perfectly.

Circlingthesun · 25/06/2024 23:10

No I need to have my feet and knees covered, even though I wake up without any covers on me.

Jackiebrambles · 25/06/2024 23:11

Ha I’ve been having the same conversations with my kids, both of them need to be covered so they just have a light sheet on them tonight! I never used to be able to but since being a knackered mum I can fall asleep any how. Though I will always wake in the middle of the night and need a cover.

Deathbywhy · 25/06/2024 22:56

Yep, I need something over me too so that the monsters can’t grab my feet as easily

Not just me then ...

(I have joked about it for years but I'm deadly serious. Quite why a sheet keeps the monsters away is beyond my logic though).

MadYoke · 25/06/2024 23:12

Need to be covered and a sheet is too light. I have a 2 tog duvet which is perfect. Very hard to get such a low tog though.

Blackcats7 · 25/06/2024 23:13

Yes I have to have at least my top covered no matter how hot it is. No idea why. Surely it isn’t just habit?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2024 23:17

I'm not sure if the need for a cover is because we don't like the idea of insects or it's simply that draughts disturb us?

BagFullOfNoodles · 25/06/2024 23:19

I say I can't but I've been known to fall asleep on the sofa, and a few weeks ago I had a rest after putting ds to bed and woke up fully clothed twelve hours later on top of the duvet, although I've just been diagnosed with iron and b12 deficiency

nocoolnamesleft · 25/06/2024 23:21

Generally need a light cover on. I presume it's fear of getting darked on.

MenopauseSucks · 25/06/2024 23:23

I have to have something over me as I might need to hide from the Daleks, especially now they can do stairsHmm
So at least a sheet.
Usually have the duvet over my feet as I like the weight.

I finally changed to my summer duvet today. Now I've got fresh line-dried bed clothes & despite the heat, it feels really lovely!

Jeannie88 · 25/06/2024 23:25

Not properly, so duvet partially on and feet sticking out! Xx

Mummyofbananas · 25/06/2024 23:29

I need something but just across my stomach- I just bunch a sheet up over my stomach and i'm fine.

FictionalCharacter · 25/06/2024 23:31

JedEye · 25/06/2024 23:03

Same! What's that all about do you think? 🤔

No idea! I’ve had white hot feet at night since menopause, but I don’t know why I can uncover my legs but always need my middle bit covered.
It can’t be some primeval fear of insects biting, because bitey things go for arms, legs, faces etc.

Me too when it’s very hot. If it’s only moderately hot I cover my arms and shoulders too.
I feel quite reassured that I’m not the only weird one!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 25/06/2024 23:33

I'm fine without a cover now, it just takes a bit of getting used to. I adapted to it when visiting my in laws in Malaysia, it stays hot there at night too so a fan and no cover at all is the only comfortable way to sleep.

MimitteAndElsaGoToSwitzerland · 25/06/2024 23:33

No. I have a silk sleeping bag for this reason.

Justleaveitblankthen · 25/06/2024 23:36

Haha!
Yep, in the sizzling heat of summer overseas, we would always sleep with a sheet draped over some body bit 😁

Just a thigh or calf (I sleep on my stomach) but it had to be there!

Bobbotgegrinch · 25/06/2024 23:37

I have to be covered, but "covered" can mean having one foot under the duvet, and the rest of me completely uncovered.

Which is fine, the monsters can only get you if you're completely uncovered.

SirQuintusAureliusMaximus · 25/06/2024 23:39

There's a reason for this.

Your skin can sense light so if you are fully covered (assuming your room is not pitch black with no light pollution or leaking at all) it will help you sleep because your body skin "thinks" it's night as well as your eyes.

How the skin senses light:

EyeOop · 25/06/2024 23:46

No, I need the duvet on. Has to be the duvet.

I don’t have a summer duvet either.

GeniusLevelJaffaCake · 25/06/2024 23:51

Yes. I can sleep naked and uncovered, which will probably freak out most of the people on this thread (although I hadn't considered the Daleks now being able to get upstairs 😖).

EasterlyDirection · 25/06/2024 23:52

Not in bed but I can on the sofa or garden seat. We've got an empty duvet cover on the bed at the moment as we don't own any non-fitted sheets.I usually have it just over my middle with legs out when it's very hot.
