Just sharing my shitty day

Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 17:43

First day driving new car. Drove into a post causing £650 worth of damage (to my car, not the post). Drove previous car for 10 years without incident.

At least it's sunny.

Sorry OP, that IS shitty. X

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2024 17:49

Oh no! That really does suck. Is there maybe a blind spot on this car? - you don't want to do it again!

Blouson · 25/06/2024 17:51

Who's post was it?!

Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 17:55

It happened when I was trying to get out of a library car park which has a ridiculously small exit that is also on a hill. Unfortunately I can't blame the car, other than it being very slightly bigger than my old one which is probably why it happened. All I can say is small hatchbacks are a lot bigger than they were 10 years ago😐

Irony being I was using the library to save money.

Blouson · 25/06/2024 17:57

Doh! Did you get a quote to fix already? Im guessing new bumper and paint.

Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 17:57

@Blouson it was sort of nestled behind a brick wall at the side of the library exit - it was already pretty bashed and bent

OP posts:
AmelieTaylor · 25/06/2024 17:57

Oh you poor thing!!!

Probably not worth claiming on insurance either.

Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 17:59

Yes, I've found a bloke who'll fix it for £650 which is actually pretty good I think - there's a dent in the car and a lot of paint has come off. The dealership would have charged me about £2k I reckon. I feel like such an idiot.

Sympathies OP, that is shit.

Do something nice tonight to cheer yourself up.

And have these… 💐

Blouson · 25/06/2024 17:59

Visibility is rubbish on new cars compared to old ones as well.

Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 18:01

@Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon thank you - maybe I'll bring out the gin

OP posts:
Time40 · 25/06/2024 18:02

Awww, what a shame. It was because the new car is slightly bigger - you haven't grown your whiskers for it yet.

Normallynumb · 25/06/2024 18:04

Oh no! That IS shitty, and sickening
I am sorry

Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 18:04

@Blouson that's interesting. My old Polo was so nimble and easy to manoeuvre. When looking for a new car I test drove a Polo again but it was huge compared to old ones, so I went for a more compact Hyundai hoping it would feel more familiar. I don't know how people drive big SUVs - I clearly must never get one!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/06/2024 18:05

Bigger new cars often have reversing cameras plus sensors I guess.

Ha yes, crazy how much difference a few extra cm makes. To a car that is 😁

GoodVibesHere · 25/06/2024 18:06

Ah that's crap, I'm sorry OP. It's one of those things that's just really bad luck and makes you feel fed up. Time for some good chocolate and breathe a sigh of relief that the day is over.

Def not worth it. I console myself that the cost of the repairs is only half what I paid for the insurance 😓

OP posts:
Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 18:08

@ErrolTheDragon It does have a reversing driver assistance thing but I wasn't reversing at the time so wasn't much help

HappiestSleeping · 25/06/2024 18:10

@Gnomegarden32 if it is any sort of consolation, I've done exactly the same. After decades of driving cheap cars, I got a new job and splashed out on a 50k BMW (leased, not owned), and promptly drove into something.

In 25 years, I've never done that. Only after I bought something decent. Still, it's gone back to the lease company now, and I'm back with the cheap cars 😂

😂Damn those posts that just jump out in front of you!

Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 18:13

@GoodVibesHere thank you - my confidence is dented as well as the car I think 😕

OP posts:
Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 18:15

@HappiestSleeping It's the law of sod. Thinking I should just have gone for an old banger instead because obviously then nothing would have happened.

OP posts:
Gnomegarden32 · 25/06/2024 18:18

All I can say is the book I got out of the library better be pretty bloody life changing!
