Has anyone watched this on Netflix?

It's about the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

There's so much wrong with it I don't even know where to start. They get paid virtually nothing but are required to completely commit (because the role is a privilege), are held to unrealistic beauty and weight standards, ruin their hips and feet by the time they are in their early twenties, the list goes on.

It shows how backwards the USA are as a country in terms of their treatment of women that they think this is OK.

I think Season 3 is available now. The first season was my favourite. I find Reece fascinating.

OrchardDoor · 16/06/2026 13:56

I know Reece is deeply Christian and traditional in that she prayed that she would marry the first man she dated. (Which she did.) I wonder if she'll be keen to have babies young as part of her Christianity like the Bates family do. Although the Bates parents wouldn't have encouraged dressing like the DCC do.

Oh I'm going to binge this tonight. Watched Maternal instinct last night so I need a light hearted pallett cleanser.

VaddaABeetch · 16/06/2026 17:08

I'm 'saving' it until I can watch in peace tomorrow night.

Scorchio84 · 16/06/2026 17:41

Oh nice one thanks!!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/06/2026 18:17

Uh Oh Dayton is auditioning again!

I felt sorry for her in the previous series. Her mum was so pushy.

OrchardDoor · 16/06/2026 20:43

I notice this series is rated 12 for abusive behaviour!

LondonLass2026 · 16/06/2026 20:48

Yeah I watched this years ago when it was called Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Judy and Kelli are such twats. Funny how Judy's daughter made it with little effort.

I refuse to watch the new Netflix ones. It's a seriously annoying show.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/06/2026 20:50

Yeah I have yet to see “abusive” behaviour, it’s mostly more of the usual Kelli/Judi stuff which hasn’t been marked as abusive in the past so I’m wondering what it refers to. It might come from random members of the public

C5 had the old series a while ago. I binged it. Blush The batshit insanity (and hair) of mentor Kitty Carter who has completely vanished from the Netflix version was something else.

The Netflix series is more well rounded and has higher production values, or so it feels to me.

Edited

The Netflix series does seem a lot more polished than Making the Team yes.

OrchardDoor · 16/06/2026 21:22

I bet the dads are happy to volunteer to take their dds to the DCC tour.

OrchardDoor · 16/06/2026 21:25

Reece's dh must have to pinch himself he ended up married to Reece.

OrchardDoor · 16/06/2026 21:41

Can't believe the DCC were getting paid £11 an hour until end of series 2

OrchardDoor · 16/06/2026 21:45

The bit where Kleine asked where her Christmas ornament was and Kelly made a huge drama out of it was ridiculous. She was only wondering where it was. Not complaining!

SummerEve · 16/06/2026 22:32

Pleased to see this thread back - watched episode 1 already and hooked again!

SummerEve · 16/06/2026 22:51

Episode 2 - Dayton’s mother 😒😒

On Making the team there was a whole hoo ha that the mascot was being paid several times what the cheerleaders were. Can’t believe it was still that low even after previous pay negotiations.

Episode 2 - Dayton’s mother 😒😒

A bit dramatic and unnecessary

“but she held her in the hospital when she was a baby but she’ll give spots to strangers”

Yeah, that’s not how it should work. They have a job to do and they’re probably still burnt by the Tina Kalina business

I wonder if she feels a bit resentful that Judy's dd got in without being great. I saw the episode where she got in. Maybe the standards are higher now than they were back then.

I'm not a fan of Charlotte Jones, the daughter of the AT&T stadium owner.

I'm not sure I'd class it as a light-hearted palate cleaner! I think I started to watch it in this vein, but before long it seemed to be about a profoundly unpleasant and exploitative system designed to train naive young women into thinking they were lucky and blessed to get be underpaid for something high-profile and body wrecking. Watching all those jumps where they land in the splits position got unbearable fast.

OrchardDoor · 17/06/2026 13:55

I agree that's it's terrible that their hips get wrecked at a young age. They should stop doing the jump splits that damage their hips. Even if it's iconic.
