Bathroom scales

Sux2buthen · 23/06/2024 07:54

I've been on a mission to lose weight for...gosh, two days now and it's going well.
I realised I hadn't weighed myself for a couple of weeks and wanted a starting weight so I hopped on today and the scales told me I have gained two stone ConfusedI tried it in different spots of the room and switched to kg.
Luckily, just as I was about to hysterically panic the scales told me I am 178.732 stones.
I suspect the scales are not reliable at this point Grin
I'm have ordered the traditional bathroom scales now, no more digital fannying about.
I know numbers aren't the best way to monitor healthy weight loss and all that but I like ro know.
If there's anyone here working with almost zero willpower but desperate to be healthier please say hi 👋🏻

Know the feeling. I am back on it this week though. Joined ww on line. I remember my old scales telling me I weighed 7 stone once. Obviously had broke.

Sux2buthen · 23/06/2024 09:04

I've changed the batteries and my weight has changed by about two ounces. I can't believe I haven't lost 3 stone after eating two salads 🥗
In total I probably need to lose 5 stones or more but I'm going pound by pound as a target.
5"7 and 16.2 stone 😪all jokes aside I can feel real problems starting now, rashes from skin rubbing and things like that.
I always thought if I was this weight I'd look enormous but I don't so I've been in denial I think.
I wish you lots of grit and determination going forward 💪🏻

You could also measure your progress by your waist measurement and by how your clothes fit.

Even without the gaslighting scales, weight is a poor indicator of progress as it will vary due to several factors (hydration, what's in your digestive system, muscle mass) unrelated to your body fat percentage, which is what you're trying to lose.

Good luck though - onwards and downwards!

Exactly. I also need to drink a lot more, I hold water like a camel in the Sahara so carrying a lot of humps where I don't need to be. My clothes are usually a good glue; the necessary elastic is less strained after I've done well for a bit 🤣

Hello 👋

I started my weight loss mission at the beginning of June when I realised how tight and uncomfortable my work uniform had got. It's feeling slightly looser 3.5 pounds down. I completely get the disappointment of not losing 3 stone after eating a couple of salads!!
Feel like I've got into the swing of it now even though the urge to eat all of the chocolate is very much present.

Sux2buthen · 23/06/2024 09:51

Well done on the loss! Sounds like you're going great guns 💪🏻
I'm a savoury carb person I don't feel I've eaten unless I've gorged on them, I'm trying hard to avoid; I know you shouldn't cut out but my willpower is all or nothing.
I'm also an idiot that rewards myself with a treat if I've done well so I've binned that off.
And I realised recently that my main drink is diet lemonade I think I've become addicted without realising and that can't be good for bloating

I'm on a mission to lose weight too, I've done it really slowly so far, 1.5 years and I'm nearly 4 stone off. You really have to see it as a long term thing as some weeks you will lose nothing despite doing everything right and other weeks it falls off. I weigh weekly. Best of luck 🤞

Allmarbleslost · 23/06/2024 09:54

I discovered I can lose four pounds if I move the scales from the bathroom to the bedroom!

I've been on my latest weight loss mission for a week now and despite a lot of salad and water I'm still not thin. Just the 6 or so stone to lose.

Oh yes this is true, scales have to be on a flat surface 😂

hby9628 · 23/06/2024 10:01

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor well done. I think that's a really good point that it's a long term goal
I've always managed to lose weight quite quickly but I'm 45 now and it's just slow. Also I struggle to not let myself have 1 night off at the weekend. So last night I had Chinese & wine. Not ridiculous amounts but I didn't say no.
It's the first time I've not felt great after a Chinese. This time around I'm trying to listen to my body a bit more & learn from that.
I do want to try to shift a decent amount of weight before my hol in august so will just keep going

How did you navigate holidays during your weight loss? I feel like whenever I go on hols I put on everything I lost so it's a terrible cycle of doom

WonderingWanda · 23/06/2024 10:07

I have zero willpower, I think because I've always been able to carry a bit not extra weight quite well and used to be able to lose it quite fast in preparation for a bikini holiday etc. However, the perimenopause has been kicking in over the last 5 years and the weight has crept up and up and won't budge. All attempts at weight loss lead to failure and I am now in the overweight bmi category, bursting out of size 14 clothes and developing a horrible belly. I desperately need to take action now but it is so depressing when all my dh needs to do to lose weight is look at his running shoes. Plus my middle aged life revolves around doing stuff for everyone else. I am lucky, as a teacher I have the summer of so will try really hard to get back into some good habits.

@Sux2buthen your posts have inspired me this morning, you have eaten two more salads than I have this weekend and I am considering starting my massive diet tomorrow rather than at the end of term. I cannot possibly start today because we have a fridge full of bbq food for a family party this afternoon.

I'll be following your progress for some inspiration.

Also, how does anyone balance the need to drink about 10 buckets of water a day for weight loss with the need to not spend the entire day going for a wee?

Love this....glad I'm not the only one moving the scales around trying to find my lowest weight!

Sux2buthen · 23/06/2024 11:01

These replies are spurring me on! I've said I'll do it before but something feels different this time. I think because I'm 44, I'm starting to feel unwell, dodging mirrors and my 16-18 clothes are creeping into being too tight.
I was a 10-12 before I had kids and now 3 kids, an abusive relationship and a stay in a refuge later in far too heavy.
I have a happy relationship now and he accepts me as I am, damn him! 🤣
Let's hope we can keep this chat going and give each other a boost even if we have a falter some days
We can all do this 💪🏻💪🏻

I never say 'fuck it' and if I do have a day off I get straight back on it the next day. I try and make good choices when I can even when I'm away. As soon as I'm back I'm extra careful again.

I'm 53 so it's not easy but it's possible. Chinese and wine needs to be once a month rather than once a week for me.

CalicoPusscat · 23/06/2024 11:33

I'm finding the digital ones unreliable, they hop around like a bunny rabbit.

Good luck with your mission!

Dottydoodoo · 23/06/2024 17:20

Good luck everyone 💪 we've got this!

MaryRoze · 23/06/2024 17:32

I've been in a calorie deficit for 6 days and haven't lost 4 stone yet. Disappointing. Sad

Sux2buthen · 23/06/2024 22:15

I understand your frustration, I've had two salads today and I look just the same as 3 days ago 😂
The way I see it every slice of buttery toast I don't have is a win (and that was a lot of slices).
I did find that today I did a lot of random house jobs I'd usually just think about so maybe there's better energy in me already.

Was doing ok but had family over today. I cooked a roast dinner with all the bits and thoroughly enjoyed it! Followed by a slice of homemade cake. 2 glasses of wine had also!

In my head I’m doing ok - because I stopped after 1 slice of cake. I would usually have a 2nd and a 3rd….

hby9628 · 24/06/2024 07:52

@runningonberocca I think that's a sensible way to look at it. Small steps & improvements and over time it will make a difference

hby9628 · 24/06/2024 07:53

I'm 2lb down today from last Monday but 1.2lb up from Friday. Just shows how weight can fluctuate so much
Overall I'm 6lb down in 2.5 weeks. Really would like another 10-14 before my hols on 9 august so just going to keep going for it

Bemyclementine · 24/06/2024 07:56

Hi @Sux2buthen blimey you could be me 5ft 7, 16st, don't look enormous but feel bloody awful.

I'll be back later.

Sux2buthen · 24/06/2024 22:21

Barely an ounce or two to go and I will have hit my first target which is to dip back under 16 stone.
I hope everyone's had a good day and sending all the healthy vibes to you all

5.2lbs down this week, and suddenly the bathroom scales are my friend once more. Grin

How are you getting on, @Sux2buthen ?

SushiSheep · 28/06/2024 06:43

Hmmm… think my scales are broken too, the numbers only seem to go up 🤔

Yes, yes, definitely broken 😝
