How does hayfever make you feel?

Kate3150 · 21/06/2024 08:00

I don’t really know anyone who suffers from it, but mine seems particularly bad this year.

I can’t quite describe how I feel with it, apart from the runny nose and sneezing, I feel generally rubbish, is anyone else the same?

Like I want to rip my face off.

reluctantbrit · 21/06/2024 08:04

I normally only have the early trees like birch, hazelnut and it's over by May but this year I am going through tissues like they are getting out of fashion.

I had several days where I felt like I have a hangover and I am really sensitive to dust which makes work a nightmare as we have building work done in the office.

Kate3150 · 21/06/2024 08:06

I don’t think I appreciated how awful it can make me feel.

The hangover feeling is definitely something I can relate to.

Sorry you’re all feeling rubbish aswell ☹️

Mine is with grass pollen. If its a really bad day it’s like a rotten cold and I’m absolutely exhausted.

Mairzydotes · 21/06/2024 08:30

My mouth always tastes funny , and I feel queasy because of it .

TigerRag · 21/06/2024 08:31

Mine just really affects my chest. Nose can get a bit blocked.

MonsteraMama · 21/06/2024 08:31

Like someone poured concrete that's full of bees up my nose while I was sleeping

GerbilsForever24 · 21/06/2024 08:34

Yes, it's like having a really bad head cold where everything is just that little bit distant and all you want to do is get into bed.

DH also gets more and more bad tempered. We're actually coming up to his peak hay fever normally although with the weird weather everything is topsy turvy so it might not be completely on schedule. But I'm glad I saw this thread - he's been really annoying the last few days but I'v ejust clocked why. So thanks.

TeenLifeMum · 21/06/2024 08:42

Lethargic she like I want to scratch my face off

Like I want to rip my face off.

This.

Savoydone · 21/06/2024 08:52

Irritable, itchy, annoyed with the world, pain down one side of my face including head, ear, nose, gums , teeth. Constantly running nose that has less skin on it by the minute with all the blowing. Sneezing so many times one after the other so that I feel like I can’t catch my breath. I have not had it this bad since my twenties.
I am my own worst enemy though. I know all the stuff I should be doing to help myself but I’m just too pissed off to do it. Thankfully for everyone around me I am not one to take my annoyance at it out on them.

Witchbitch20 · 21/06/2024 08:55

Like shit.

This weak function has been a challenge. I’m tired, my eyes are itchy, and I’m fed up.

MagentaRocks · 21/06/2024 08:56

Mine is really bad this year. It eased for a few years.

I also want to rip my face off, dig into my throat and ears. I can cope with the sneezing but not the God awful itching under my skin and in my throat and ears. My eyes are bad too. Constantly wanting to rub them which doesn't help but I can't help it.

minipie · 21/06/2024 09:00

I get it on and off, never too badly but this year I’m finding it different- less itchy eyes and more feeling tired and bunged up. Like I’m coming down with something.

poppym12 · 21/06/2024 09:09

Itchy, tired, miserable and 'the headache'. It's a type of headache I get that only happens with hayfever (I get migraines but they're very different). It doesn't feel like my sinuses, it's just a crappy niggling headache that I can't get rid of.

I've had fexofenadine on prescription for years but this year it doesn't seem to be enough. I'm taking piriton too and using eye drops.

Mine is worse with early tree pollens but this year it's dragging on indefinitely.

ThePoshUns · 21/06/2024 09:12

Burning eyes, itchy ears and throat. Lethargic. My hay fever is normally done and dusted by now but I'm assuming the wet weather has suppressed a lot of tree pollen so it's appearing now instead.

Peridot1 · 21/06/2024 09:16

Mine is really bad at the moment too. I don’t think people who don’t suffer with it appreciate it’s not just sneezing. It makes me feel really lethargic too. On top of the sore itchy eyes, constant sneezing and runny nose and just feeling blah.

BaublesAndGlitter · 21/06/2024 09:19

Like my head is full and heavy. My breathing is loud enough to annoy me and my eyes are watering and puffy. I haven't been able to wear mascara for a while now and in a meeting the other day (on teams) someone messaged me privately to ask if I was ok as it looked like I'd been crying as my eyes were so red.

I never suffered until I was in my 30s but it's got worse each year since then and this year is ridiculous.

MiddleAgedDread · 21/06/2024 09:20

I'm less sneezy and itchy at the moment but keep waking up with a headache and feeling stuffed up and sinusey. I take antihistamines daily but i'm sleeping with the window open at the moment and I think that's causing it in a morning.

Shergill15 · 21/06/2024 09:21

Like having a permanent bad cold. Eyes really bloodshot and burning. Constantly tired and with a sinus-y headache. My asthma is worse with it. Itchy all over and generally cross with the world and everyone in it!!

Sympathies to all fellow sufferers

Kate3150 · 21/06/2024 09:23

I’m sorry to hear you’re all feeling like this, it is comforting to know I’m not alone.

I feel like it’s something I can’t moan about too much as if I didn’t have it myself, I would probably think, oh it’s only hayfever.

But it’s SO much more than a runny nose and itchy eyes, I can’t believe how rubbish it makes me feel.

OP posts:
FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 21/06/2024 09:26

Very tired
Pressure behind my eyes, not really watery although they are sometimes, more like my eyelids are very heavy and need to close
Tickly cough
Skin gets itchy on high pollen days

maw1681 · 21/06/2024 09:29

Yep, horrible. I've walked DD to school this morning and on the way home felt like I could hardly breathe. It's usually tree pollen time for me late April to early July but because of the rubbish weather this year have not been too bad but it's like all the pollen has been released at once this week and I've been awful. A girl I work with was saying the same.
Antihistamines make me feel rubbish too, I try not to take them too often or take at night if I need to, beconase and allergy eye drops help

NotHooray · 21/06/2024 09:29

The running nose, sneezing and congestion I find most irritating. The past week I have had the tail end of flu and a bad bout of hay-fever starting and I look like I've skinned my nose with the amount of nose blowing I've been doing. I am breathing like a bloody warthog too. Strangely I never usually suffer with itchy eyes but this year they look and feel dreadful. Optrex drops are helping, and instead of cetirizine I'm taking fexofenadine and am certainly seeing the difference when I forget to take one!

Savoydone · 21/06/2024 09:29

Oh, I forgot about the eyes. Never had this before but they keep streaming. It looks like I am full on crying. Not just watery. Tears rolling down my face. Thankfully it doesn’t last long but just happens randomly.
