True, but a 9 year old girl only 110cm tall? Isn’t that the average height for 5 year olds? That’s a percentile of 0.4 :-S

This is quite small but someone has to be on the 0.4th centile. I am and was very well looked after 🙂. Having said that my 9 year old is 115cm and by far the smallest in her class, so 110cm really is quite small. I am glad they have been found.

GerbilsForever24 · 18/06/2024 17:01

The original article annoyed me as the headline very clearly implied they'd been taken from Thorpe Park even though the article clearly stated that they'd been seen, apparently unconcerned, outside of the park. And then the "well, people shouldn't take children to theme parks" or "I'm constantly terrified when I'm at a theme park with my child and I tie them to my wrist with 2 inches of steel wool" theories start.

I'm glad they've turned up though, whatever the case.

I know 2 teens girls who were in care. Bad things did happen to them sadly. They are young adults now.

It’s very concerning. 😟
The Foster family we knew took tricky to place children- but even with their wealth of experience they couldn’t keep teenaged girls safe - so eventually just took boys.
It’s awful that predators know exactly how to attract a vulnerable child.

Seems police weren’t much help either ( back then).

PCcrisps · 18/06/2024 14:04

Teens in care go "missing" all the time, which usually means they're with someone, somewhere they shouldn't be, but they're not exactly lost. I.e. the authorities have a good idea of where they are and they've gone voluntarily (if going willingly with your groomer is the same thing as voluntarily, which obviously it's not)

It's unusual for them to have little ones with them though.

It's so cruel that groomers know EXACTLY how to target vulnerable young teenaged girls.
Obviously not going to write about how they do it, but the Foster family we knew said it really is an uphill battle to try and make teenaged girls be aware that these men are NOT ''Boyfriends'' but have much more malign intent.

By the time the girls realise -it's often too late.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 18/06/2024 17:39

@saynotofondant my just last month turned four year old is 110cm, that is tiny for a tiny for a nine year old!

oakleaffy · 18/06/2024 11:40

A very experienced foster family where we used to live ( now retired) said young teenaged girls were very hard to keep safe ( and that was before the days of smartphones)
They are often targeted by unsavoury men who can sense a vulnerable child at 100 metres.

This.

On reading the story I thought that the 14 year may have been a victim of grooming or predatory man/men and has in turn picked up 2 children / lost children with a promise to return them home / go on an adventure and but actually to take back them back to her abusers or traffickers.

What ever the story behind this I hope these 3 children are found soon and reunited with their families.

Rhythmisadancer · 18/06/2024 17:46

sounds like they've been found, what an odd story, but thankfully a happy ending

The police statement says that the group were all known to each other. So she hadn't picked the other kids up at the park, though I think it's highly likely that she influenced them.

Also it says that they had been on a planned day out from Milton Keynes.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say with this post. Boast about how tall your 4yo is? Make sure this woman knows that her daughter isn't very tall because you don't think she's noticed?

Or maybe you have a very tall 4 year old?

For middle ground my nearly 7yo is 110cm..

RB68 · 18/06/2024 18:30

There is something more to this, for some reason we are not being told the full story - but then are we really entitled to it.

I hope they got separated, left to get train home and messed it up - but where on earth were they overnight is my question.

Thewildthingsarewithme · 18/06/2024 18:30

@SallyLovesCheese what a strangely aggressive take, why would I boast about my child’s height 😂 I’m agreeing that it’s shocking and suggests potential neglect for a nine year old to be that small which I think was what the poster was suggesting

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 18/06/2024 19:44

The reporting on this is very vague and strange.

Of course it is, it's about children and families in crisis, do you really think it should be news for public entertainment?

Sorry to go off-topic. This conversation just made me get my tape measure out.

I really am shocked to read about a height of 110cm at that age.

As you quite rightly say "...someone has to be on the 0.4th centile." but it is certainly also a fact that nutritional factors can play a role as well as genetic factors.

110cm as a 9 year old will be very, very short. My 5 year old is just under that and one of the shortest in her year group and is often mistaken for a 3-4yo.

It must have been quite a frightening experience for the younger ones- im surprised they were able to exit but it’s also an odd destination for primary age. I can’t imagine there was much that two 110cm children could have actually gone on there in the first place.

TheThreeCheesesOfTheApocalypse44 · 18/06/2024 20:34

IveI'a feeling this is a kids in foster care situation.....which is why there hasnt been huge appeals.

NoNameNonsense · 18/06/2024 20:41

Really very worrying. I do think some things aren’t adding up though… surely they wouldn’t be allowed into Thorpe Park without an adult present?

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 18/06/2024 20:44

They may well have been on a trip and left without the adults being aware. It feels like they could be in care which is why they wouldn't be splashing all the details about.

RedHelenB · 18/06/2024 20:46

They've been found safe and well , that's the main thing.

SapphireSeptember · 18/06/2024 22:22

Finding out how vulnerable teenage girls in care is is heartbreaking. Sad to know they're not even safe after being removed from harmful situations, often with elements of CSA within their own families. The men who target these girls are absolute scum.

I knew a girl at school who was in care after being abused by her uncle. I lost touch with her but I hope she's alright. I remember reassuring her that what happened wasn't her fault. ❤️

CurryOnRegardless · 18/06/2024 22:30

The publicity pic of the 3 of them wasn’t taken on the day of the outing as the clothing is different as that described in the appeal for sightings.

But they are together in a building with door closers on the door: not a domestic setting.
