Who can eat that many chips?

Fish and chips... I bought three packets of chips between four of us and they were so massive we only managed one and a half. And DH loves his chips and has a big appetite. Who on earth can actually eat a whole packet of chips in addition to their fish?

YANBU. Easily enough chips for 2 in our chippy's portions, and I'm by no means a teeny tiny.

AhBiscuits · 17/06/2024 12:41

We usually get a large portion and it's enough to feed all 4 of us (the kids are only 6 and 8).

I think it depends where u go !
we have one not far and they serve huge portions but the chips always mushy and not that nice so never eat them all !
But the one further away have good portion and delicious so always eat full portion from there lol .

I know this is going to make me sound as if I’m a MN chicken type of person, but ours gives so many chips we now order the OAP portions and believe me I like plenty of chips. The fish ends up being a bit small, but it works for us.

Disclaimer: I am nearly 60 so don’t feel guilty about it.

These threads always end up with sarcasm. My DH and I share a small cod chips,SE UK,eye watering £12, take away. We don't eat all the chips provided.portion sizes are getting ridiculous and it's no wonder 60% of the population are overweight. We were born, grew up in the 50s, just after the war, still had ration books, never got used to eating big portions.

QuaintBlueSeal · 17/06/2024 15:27

I acn finish the chips easily in our local fish and chip shop.

HollyKnight · 17/06/2024 16:35

Me. Me. Me. I haven't yet met a volume of food I couldn't finish.

My friends and I went to the seaside earlier this month and got food from a chippy we've never been to before. We all got a portion of chips each not knowing how large they would be.

My friends were all like, "Oh my goodness! We should have shared. I'm never going to finish all that."
Me: "Yeah, me neither"👀😅

Total lie. But I purposely left a quarter of them so people wouldn't think I was a glutton. The seagulls loved us that day.

Well thanks to this thread I’ve now asked my husband to get fish and chips for dinner. I’ll definitely eat only a third of the chips and maybe half the fish because they serve huge portions. He always eats everything of his but then goes poking around my chip box 🙄

MadisonAvenue · 17/06/2024 17:00

Had medium chips and curry sauce the other week and my husband had fish and medium chips, a rare treat for us. We ordered two mediums as large from the same chippy was massive last time and were cold and not so nice by the time we’d eaten half.

What a disappointment.
They came on polystyrene trays, the small unlidded ones sized about 7”x4” and they weren’t bulging full either. Felt like we’d been robbed.

Funnily enough there was a discussion on the local Facebook page over the weekend about where the best local chippy is and this one came up numerous times but many said that portion sizes had decreased a lot.

BettyBootsie · 17/06/2024 17:20

But are we also having onion rings? Proper whole ring ones, mind, not the minced ones? I'd want onion rings too 😁

Thevelvelletes · 17/06/2024 17:57

The local chipper to us in Ne Scotland.
Portions are shrinking at an alarming rate.

ALongHardWinter · 17/06/2024 18:34

The problem is that there is no consistency in portion sizes. There are 2 fish and chip shops near where I live, one of them sells a large portion that is plenty for 2 people, the other one's large portion is barely enough for one person. On the subject of chip portion sizes, does anyone know why chip shop portion sizes are so tiny in Scotland? When I went there on holiday a few years ago,a large portion of chips contained approximately 15 chips. I thought maybe it was just that particular shop, but a few days later,I had the same experience at a different shop. In my opinion,15 chips does not constitute a large portion!

Abitorangelooking · 17/06/2024 18:45

I find it varies wildly. I’m halfway between two towns. Chip shop 1 10.50 plus a quid for homemade tartar sauce for fish and chips cooked fresh to order. Very nice but small portion, can finish and contemplate a pudding in the not too distant future. Chip shop 2 big portion 1.5 fish loads of chips, can’t finish and I’m greedy. Chuck leftovers in air fryer next day and have chip butties.

I think without knowing portion sizes it’s really hard to judge who is performance underrating.
