Anyone else not having a holiday this year?

For the first time in years we aren't having a week holiday abroad.
We are going to Mexico in May next year instead.
We are going to Majorca for 3 nights in a month but no holiday this year -and I'm feeling a bit sad about it tbh
Seeing everyone going away on a proper holiday is a bit bitersweet.
Anyone else not got a holiday this year ?

I am grateful for the 3 night break but can't pretend I'm not sad we aren't having a proper holiday

Never mind, nobody had a holiday when Covid was on.

Devilsmommy · 15/06/2024 20:17

Ive never been abroad in my life and in the last 25 years have had 1 4 day UK holiday. Sorry if I can't feel all sorry for you🙄

Swollenandgrouchy · 15/06/2024 20:17

We are having a week in Pitlochry (about 2 hrs from where we live). Last year we had a week in a caravan in Cumbria. It’s all we can afford but it will still be nice :)

Whothefuckdoesthat · 15/06/2024 20:19

😂 Yeah, there are one or two of us who won’t be having a holiday!

But get yourself excited about Mexico. Think how quickly this year is going. It’ll be here before you know it. What part are you going to? Is it a nice hotel? Have you been before?

Oh dear @Devilsmommy I'm guessing you are some very difficult circumstances?

We did. It was still possible in fact it was incredibly cheap. Obviously not whilst lockdown was on, but that wasn't that long. We had some brilliant holidays as there were no queues at the airports.

SomewhereOverTheHill · 15/06/2024 20:22

We aren’t going on holiday at all this year, not even for a weekend.
We will survive, but life is better with something to look forward to.

🤣 I used to be. On my feet now and have a beautiful 20mo. The 4 day holiday was my honeymoon 😅 hoping to have a UK holiday Next year and possibly go abroad the year after. I'm 38 so it's about time 😁

Bearpawk · 15/06/2024 20:22

So you're not going on holiday but you're going to Majorca ? And a big holiday next spring? Okay....

blinkandyounissut · 15/06/2024 20:22

@Whothefuckdoesthat no we have never been before
We are staying in playa del Carmen
Hopefully it flys over

blinkandyounissut · 15/06/2024 20:23

@Bearpawk Majorca is only 3 nights
I meant like a week /fortnight proper holiday

twohotwaterbottles · 15/06/2024 20:24

Is the three day Majorca trip not a holiday?

I'm glad to hear it. You have lots to look forward to in life now!

@twohotwaterbottles I just meant not a week /2 week proper holiday

Bjorkdidit · 15/06/2024 20:29

It's still a holiday though, we're off to Ibiza soon for 3 nights and I'm excited as fuck about it, because it's going to be hot and sunny, a a damn sight better than all the bloody rain and cold in the UK. Plus you're off to Mexico next year, which is presumably also expensive.

If 'only' going to Mallorca for 3 nights was going to bother you so much, why didn't you book two week long holidays instead of one short break and one big expensive trip?

Loafbeginsat60 · 15/06/2024 20:29

Centreparcs for a week in July but no abroad holiday

Bjorkdidit · 15/06/2024 20:32

You could probably go for a fortnight All Inclusive abroad for the cost of a week at Center Parcs in July.

This thread is like the holiday version of 'we have no money because we spend all of our six figure salaries on school fees and our massive mortgage on our million pound house.

FussyPud · 15/06/2024 20:32

There is no ‘proper’ as a definition of holiday. 3 nights away counts. Two days at the seaside counts. Change your perception and you might not feel so cheated.

CissOff · 15/06/2024 20:34

We aren’t missing out this year but I hear you - I prioritise holidays (because we can, I appreciate we are more privileged than most who simply don’t have the spare funds) but we had a year or two just after we bought our first home where we just couldn’t afford it.

The years felt so long with no ‘real break’. Again, appreciate that’s incredibly privileged but just how I feel/felt.

blinkandyounissut · 15/06/2024 20:35

@Bjorkdidit it's my partners 40th and she wanted Mexico so decided to spend extra on that and sacrifice this year

My last holiday was in 2019. Was due to take my DD to USA for her 21st in 2020 but....Covid. Didn't feel safe travelling for a while after that. Then my husband was diagnosed with cancer in 2022 and I have been his full time carer since. He's too unwell to travel and I can't leave him on his own. He probably has months (though could be weeks) left, and a holiday will be one of the first things I do to get over the stress once the funeral and admin is out of the way.

Nourishinghandcream · 15/06/2024 21:00

Hate holidays and we never go.

We do multiple mid-week breaks throughout the UK instead, have done so for decades.
