Anyone else not having a holiday this year?

For the first time in years we aren't having a week holiday abroad.
We are going to Mexico in May next year instead.
We are going to Majorca for 3 nights in a month but no holiday this year -and I'm feeling a bit sad about it tbh
Seeing everyone going away on a proper holiday is a bit bitersweet.
Anyone else not got a holiday this year ?

💐 @2Old2Tango.

No summer holiday this year for us. It's been a difficult year financially so we need to get back on track.
Next year is more likely. I do find abroad stressful however but that may be due to having children to keep safe. I love a UK holiday if the weather is good.

blinkandyounissut · 15/06/2024 21:20

@2Old2Tango I'm really sorry to hear that
I hope your okay
I lost my mum to cancer 6 years ago and I looked after her in her last 2 years
It's really tough

I booked a week’s holiday in the south west last August and paid for it monthly. We’ve just come back. It wasn’t worth it.

Waitingfordoggo · 15/06/2024 21:26

I would call the Majorca trip a holiday, personally. Maybe try and think of it like that and then you won’t feel hard done by.

We have cancelled a family holiday we were due to go on in two weeks due to a family member sustaining an injury which means they can’t fly.

I am going to a lodge in Leicestershire with a friend for two nights. That’s a holiday- I’m taking annual leave to go and I will have a relaxing time so that meets my definition of a holiday.

We’re also going to Norway for three nights at the end of the summer to attend a wedding. That is also a holiday!

We might also go away in our caravan at some point for a long weekend. Also a holiday!

So I feel pretty lucky to have these holidays to look forward to.

I miss holidays. I have long covid and physically can't manage it.

PassingStranger · 15/06/2024 22:42

A three day trip is a short break.

Chessboardtable · 15/06/2024 22:47

us - can’t justify cost of abroad and not booking U.K. holiday due to weather

JennyBeanR · 15/06/2024 22:48

I really don't see how 3 nights in Majorca isn't a holiday. Unless you're traveling to visit a sick relative, or for work?

JennyBeanR · 15/06/2024 22:49

Your title is very misleading. Perhaps you're not going as often or as long as you like, but for goodness sake going to visit a beautiful island for 3 nights, 4 days is a holiday!

Nannyfannybanny · 15/06/2024 22:52

Nope, last holiday was almost 16 years ago. Do I miss it. No, queueing at the airport, packing, arranging someone to look after the animals, the garden, flying going deaf, getting sick.

BrigadierEtienneGerard · 15/06/2024 22:52

We haven't been abroad since 2012 (Germany) and haven't had a break of more than 3 nights in any year since then.

Can't say we miss holidays. A lot of cost and faff at the end of the day. A short UK break as and when we feel like it is much more preferable.

RobinHood19 · 15/06/2024 22:55

I have never had a 1-2 week “proper” holiday. What a bizarre term to use. My holidays are all between 3-5 days because of the nature of my work, and they’ve never felt improper, or less than?

You’re going away, you’ll get a break (albeit short), I wouldn’t say you’re not having a holiday, because you are.

Or would you say I’ve never been on holiday in my life because I didn’t hit the magic number of 7 nights?

You sound a laugh a minute

Dontcallmescarface · 16/06/2024 01:29

We had 3 weeks in Australia last year, so that's it for holidays until 2026 for us.

PassingStranger · 15/06/2024 20:16

Never mind, nobody had a holiday when Covid was on.

Speak for yourself. We went to Mexico for a week in September 2020. And to California for 2 weeks in 2021. So not everyone had no holidays.

Glenthebattleostrich · 16/06/2024 07:26

We have an abroad holiday usually every 3 years. Should be this year but we've decided on a big blow out one next year and to get a new fence and do some stuff to the house. We won't be
Even be going away in the UK this year unfortunately.

ViciousCurrentBun · 16/06/2024 08:00

We chose not to go overseas this year and had a week in Wales in a motorhome and off soon for a week in a self catering cottage in Yorkshire. It’s too difficult for DH to get two weeks off together this year. He will be retired soonish just need a couple more bits of information for final decision making and then we will be off travelling for months.

Nannyfannybanny · 16/06/2024 10:26

Course, someone has to be nasty. Why the sarcasm, because I don't want to go away. I actually can't afford it in my pension. You know nothing about me,my DH has agoraphobia and other phobias, sometimes we got to the airport, sometimes, abroad (him heavily medicated) the airport, the hotel,he wanted to come home, yes,it was bloody stressful. We went out of season, quiet places. We live near the beach, took the dogs to a quiet cove at 8am today. And yes, thanks I am fun!

Mabelface · 16/06/2024 10:35

Holidays are a luxury I can rarely afford. I class going to visit my kids down south a couple of times a year as my holidays. I save all year for the train fares. Have only managed to go abroad once in my life, now in my 50s.

Take no notice, I saw that remark people are rude. We are all different. I love a holiday myself but it's not the same for everyone.
