I'm married but use Ms.
What do I put re title and marital status on application forms for a teaching role?

Title -Ms
Marital status - Married

Not sure why it's more complicated than that

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 15/06/2024 18:57

@obsessedwithfreshbread People are still unfortunately making judgements.

Who cares what they think

Why do they even ask marital status? Our school forms don’t.

But it’s not a trick question…

AtomicBlondeRose · 15/06/2024 18:58

Put whatever you want. In this day and age I don’t think people make judgements about Ms/Mrs.

dementedpixie · 15/06/2024 18:58

Or do you think the applications are getting rejected because you put Ms?

obsessedwithfreshbread · 15/06/2024 18:59

Ignore them! It is nobody else's business

Although you will be probably called 'Miss' by the kids!

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 15/06/2024 19:01

@dementedpixie Potentially, yes. I'm in a primary school of around 80 other women and all the married ones are called Mrs. I'm constantly asked by kids and staff alike why I'm Ms if I'm married.

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 15/06/2024 19:02

@obsessedwithfreshbread I'm fine with that.

Good teaching opportunity.

Judgements about what?

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 15/06/2024 19:04

@RitaIncognita I have to tread carefully though so as not to offend.

OP posts:
WindowViper · 15/06/2024 19:06

Who on earth is offended by you using Ms?

And do teaching applications really ask marital status? Smells fishy….

dementedpixie · 15/06/2024 19:06

Maybe tell them that men don't display their marital status using their title so you are also choosing not to display yours through your title even though you are married

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 15/06/2024 19:11

@WindowViper It's been on all application forms so far.
I've been told by some I am being disrespectful to my husband and also that I'm "challenging" the choices of 99.9% of married women.

Where are you teaching, the Surrendered Wives Academy? In a 1950s timeslip?

dementedpixie · 15/06/2024 19:13

Did you keep your surname or change it to your husband's? You arent challenging anyone, you are making your own choice without judging what others choose to do.

CurlewKate · 15/06/2024 19:18

@Hellodarknessmyfriend "People are still unfortunately making judgements."

What sort of judgements?

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 15/06/2024 19:18

@dementedpixie We both db'd.

OP posts:
Hellodarknessmyfriend · 15/06/2024 19:19

@JurassicClark Well I'm the only married Ms of around 80 others.

OP posts:
margotsdevil · 15/06/2024 19:19

Honestly? I teach using ms maiden name. Never once had it questioned...

Hellodarknessmyfriend · 15/06/2024 19:21

@margotsdevil Primary? That gives me hope 🙏

I think people assume I'm divorced. None of my business what they think. It bothers me not. I have been married for a long time by the way.
