So they want to replace PIP/DLA money with vouchers?

moneyinthebinthatsmrtim · 15/06/2024 07:45

I don't understand it. It is really worrying me.

This payment helps pay for so many things. I doubt these vouchers would cover that, or give the freedom to shop or buy from where you want or need to.

I included DLA because it's really just the child's version of PIP. Eventually, my profoundly disabled child will be an adult and will have to be on PIP

Is there really any truth in this? I can't see any articles directly quoting Labour or Conservative. I might just be in such a worry that I have missed that bit

Apologies if there is another thread on this too. I am happy to get this one taken off if that's the case

THAT poster keeps saying vouchers are fine but hasn't explained good for what we'll expect food that's permitted spending.

So if you receive PIP,you're not allowed to take a holiday?

I very much doubt a voucher would pay for a holiday.
That would come from other earnings. Unless of course that holiday is also in some way deemed necessary for recovery / support for whatever reason…..I have no idea if DWP / health professionals currently deem this necessary.

It is my business how money is spent . Its my tax money . Why should i go to work and ineffect give you money . How dare you think its got nothing to do with me . Its my money your spending. I would of been grateful forany help given when we were hard up . There seems to be a sense of entitlement amongst some . Its my money i worked for being given to you

You have fuck all right to know where and how people spend their money !

It’s extremely intrusive but this is one of the areas that is being looked at through the consultation process.
There are many areas being considered to both streamline the process and save money.
Vouchers, catalogues and grants are just one area and if deemed more costly will come to nothing.
I doubt whether they are moral or not will really trump everything, it will be down to cost.

How much of your tax actually goes on PIP? Have a look, and report back.

PIP is not for those who are hard up.... it is to even the playing field when it comes to disabilities. It is totally different to getting help when going through a bad patch.

You are one accident away from having to claim it yourself.

do you realise just how cold hearted you are?

You or a loved one could become disabled overnight you have no idea. Then you would realise the massive impact disability has on all aspects of someone’s life.

You did get help. Child benefit, your kids schooling, your maternity care. Other people's money they worked for given to you. You haven't answered why a childfree or childless disabled person who worked should've paid for your kids btw. Going by your argument (not mine) they shouldn't have.

Also as previous posters have pointed out some people getting PIP are working. And many others worked before becoming unable to. Might happen to you one day for all you know.

Well it's the government's money but let's not get hung up on it being your money. I mean you can look into how your taxes are distributed but you are not entitled to know how a benefit claimant spends their money that's not what a welfare state is.

So answer the question I have already asked you: would you be happy to take your child benefit in vouchers so that I could check what you're spending it on?

621r · 20/06/2024 19:33

No if your on benefits the money is for basics . Im happy to feed .dress and keep warm the vulnerable. Im not happy to send them on holiday we had no holidays unless we could afford them .

IAmNotASheep · 20/06/2024 19:34

sevsal · 20/06/2024 19:11

No they cannot.
A pension is for general living as has already been stated. Just like wages or UC.
Disability benefits are to support a person who has a disability and to fund the additional costs / support needed because they have that specific condition and towards that specific condition.

They are completely and utterly different!

Not as different as you may think. PIP is often used to meet general living costs because the additional cost of a disability is a lack of earning ability.

True but a lack of earning ability can be topped up with UC, for general living.

I would assume any consultation will consider this issue too and anyone responding would point it out.

Where has anyone said they use their PIP for holidays?
And what has it got to do with you?
Are the vulnerable not allowed anything other than the basics?

621r · 20/06/2024 19:35

Child benefit is not benefit its was taken from mans tax code

621r · 20/06/2024 19:36

Vulnerable means you cannot meet basic needs

Your tax is going other people's child benefit, and other people's pensions.

Why don't you care what they spent that on? Why are you only focused on the disabled? Do you think they are stupid and can't be trusted with money?

621r · 20/06/2024 19:37

Vouchers is way forward

You are a bit obsessed about holidays I mean it isn't "their" fault that you can't afford a holiday why can't you afford a holiday maybe you should share with the thread why you can't afford a holiday !

621r · 20/06/2024 19:38

Its not about being trusted . Its about accounting to tax payers where their moneys gone

So, again, why not have vouchers for child benefit, pensions, all of UC?

MaidOfAle · 20/06/2024 19:40

621r · 20/06/2024 18:11

Pension is paid by ni . Which I've paid for 35 years pip is not

Your state pension will be funded by the taxes paid by the people still working when you retire. You don't pay into a pot for state pension. No one has ever paid into a pot for state pension.

pointythings · 20/06/2024 19:41

621r · 20/06/2024 19:35

Child benefit is not taken from your husband/partner's tax code, whatever gave you that idea? Single parents get it. It comes from general taxation. So yes, my taxes are paying for your chlid benefit. Happy to take it in vouchers so I can be sure you're spending it on your children?

pointythings · 20/06/2024 19:42

So Universal Credit should be paid in vouchers, as indeed should the State Pension.

Maybe there’s some personal experience here that @621r could share.
Have you seen or experienced something you felt was unfair in terms of disability allowance.
Nows the time @621r for others, maybe with personal experience, to discuss / share their thoughts .

Child Benefit is taxpayers' money. UC is taxpayers' money.

Yet no one expects parents or the unemployed to account for their spending to the taxpayer.
