I bought this top and I love it. I’m going to wear it in with a blazer anyway. But I’m assuming if it gets too hot is it inappropriate?

Is this inappropriate to wear in an office?

Well I wouldn't get away with that in my office but everywhere is different??

daisychain01 · 14/06/2024 21:09

It looks like a butcher's apron from the front.

if you've got to wear a cardi over the top, it defeats the object of wearing a top to reveal your shoulders and back.

MidnightMeltdown · 14/06/2024 21:10

Definitely not appropriate office wear

There was one woman in my office who used to dress like that. Nobody said anything, but lots of eyebrows were raised, and people would talk and laugh behind her back.

I think she had a male manager too so it put him in a massively awkward situation.

Chocolatelover13 · 14/06/2024 21:15

Sorry but looks like a chefs apron. I know that’s not what you asked though.

gardenmusic · 14/06/2024 21:15

Maybe you get to a level where it does not matter anymore, you are 'there'.
It's really not work wear.

TedWilson · 14/06/2024 21:27

I love it but couldn't have carried it off
For work since I was about 27. If you can carry it off go for it!

RaininSummer · 14/06/2024 21:30

I would think it's too much bare skin for the office especially meeting the public/clients but maybe it's fine in your place.

No, I don't think it's that.
I've worked on academic campuses (research, not unis, not industry) and been to many conferences over my career.

People wear spaghetti straps, show tattoos, flip flops - it's just really casual.
No one's showing underwear or private parts.

I work in a very formal environment in central London. I’d wear it to the office

(And I like the top)

Laughing and talking about a colleague behind their back is infinitely more problematic and makes you a much worse person than someone wearing what you deem "inappropriate" clothes.

I can't believe the horror at wearing vest tops at work, if people can't deal with shoulders then maybe they shouldn't go out at all.

Moveoverdarlin · 14/06/2024 22:58

Nope not appropriate x

PracticallyYesterday · 14/06/2024 22:59

I think fine if worn with jacket/cardigan.

ByUmberCrow · 14/06/2024 23:18

Odd choice. Looks a bit like the top of an apron - and the picture looks like no bra involved underneath? Risk of gaping / side boob??
Wouldn’t be my choice and don’t think it would be seen as appropriate in my workplace…

Copperoliverbear · 14/06/2024 23:18

Not for the workplace

VanGoghsDog · 14/06/2024 23:27

LoopyLooooo · 14/06/2024 17:25

I've just seen The rest of it....

Perhaps not too inappropriate but shapeless and baggy.

It looks like a tote bag.

Loki64 · 14/06/2024 23:50

Love the top.
Personally i would wear this to the office but i guess it depends what kind of environment you work in.

newyear2024 · 15/06/2024 00:00

I'd wear it back to front x

Nat6999 · 15/06/2024 02:38

It would be fine if you have a light jacket you can use for meetings, zoom calls etc.

ThingsWillOnlyGetBetter · 15/06/2024 05:38

Totally fine in my office. And I might buy it too.

TootGoesTheOwl · 15/06/2024 07:37

I wouldn't wear it only because it would be far too smart for the office I work in! We do hoodies and jeans in winter and in summer it's usually strappy sun dresses (if it ever gets warm enough!).

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 15/06/2024 09:52

The dress code where I work has really relaxed since Covid. We used to have to be suited and booted but these days it's smart jeans and trainers. Having said that, this top would be breaking the dress code which states no bare shoulders or strappy tops.

Have a look at the dress code policy where you work and see what it says... if bare shoulders and strappy tops are acceptable... go for it.

I know, I feel bad saying that now as I just realised @SugarWatermelonHigh has already bought it 😢

sorry I think it was just the photo Blush

I would keep it for social gatherings rather than for work.

Terrribletwos · 14/06/2024 18:24

No, they are commonly accepted everywhere and have been for some time.

Where on earth are you?

Get one across your forehead and try going for a job interview then 😂😂
