DS took me to a posh cafe today i know I'm being petty but it pissed me of.

A cafe with no mushrooms. I love mushrooms wtf. I got a so called poached egg I love them to. The only thing that was ok was the toast and even that they didn't cut it. I couldn't complain because DS would get embarrassed. So I just have to moan here 🤣

Here is a picture of my poached egg thats not a poached egg.

I think so to. Ds will have to come to non posh cafe if he wants breakfast out again 🤣

What a shame he wanted to treat you and you get the egg of disappointment 😂

Looks more like a coddled egg

Are those made in ramekins in water ?”

In ramekins with butter in the oven, I think?

Either way, OP, you’re right. That’s a ping pong ball, not a poached egg. The yolk should ooze out when you cut into it.

Is that all you got? A single egg on a plate?

No there were 2 . I just took pic of one. And 2 slice of toast .

My mum used to have one of those too, but even though they are called poached eggs, they are steamed/cuddled.

Poached eggs should be in the water.

I think that's a pre-packed poached egg a la catering supplies

Oh I've seen those in the supermarket OR it might have been marks and spencers food hall.

Thats been baked in the oven, the white must have been very rubbery. Poached eggs are so simple, I don’t know why so many places fall in the trap of stupid contraptions to make a pretend poached egg.

Even I can make poached eggs and that's saying something 🤣 they are pretty simple

It's a throwing egg

It’s her son, not her husband. Kids get embarrassed 🤷‍♀️

It's not a boiled egg. It's not a fried egg. It's defo not a scrambled egg or an omelette.
It looks like a poached egg to me OP.

It only counts as poached if the egg has been in water - not in a silicone mould in water.

Where are you seeing that there is a DH involved in this?

<adds poached eggs to the long list of things I won't order in cafes because they can't be trusted to make them to even a basic decent standard>

That's likely premade, which is inexcusable. If they can't poach eggs properly themselves, they shouldn't be selling them. If I'm paying someone to cook food for me, they should be at least as good as I can do them myself, which isn't particularly unachievable.

Again, for catering it's much easier to order this than deal with fresh eggs

Greasy spoons are probably better for eggs

They sell them ready made in M&S. I couldn't believe it when I saw them. They were yellow stickered though so maybe M&S had overestimated the amount of people willing to pay £££s for ready poached eggs that probably even aren't that nice.

Mrsjayy · 14/06/2024 17:05

I knew I had seen them.

I found it strange because there was a few poached egg choices. But generally their menu was quite restricted.

Me and DD often go to a non posh cafe they do the best poached eggs everything is always perfect.

I worked in catering for years, never worked anywhere with pre-made eggs, due to time constraints we would sometimes pre-poach abd leave in cold water (my job at two places), but nothing was every bought in cooked and reheated. I wouldn’t expect that beyong supermarket cafes or wetherspoons.

Mine did too, though the shape wasn't as odd.

I like my poached eggs with that that just-set but still bright yelllow yolk though.

EmeraldRoulette · 14/06/2024 17:24

@Simonjt it seems to me that post lockdown, more places, including posh places, are using that sort of thing.

ManilowBarry · 14/06/2024 17:26

I'd have sent that back after adding some googly eyes to it!
