I have frequently droned on to "die hard" voters (of all stripes) that once the party of their choice twigs they have your vote whatever, then that's you on the scrap heap for policies.

Which is what successive years of performative Tory voting has bought onto the middle classes, and now pensioners.

fabio12 · 16/06/2024 15:56

@Evenstar I do really like AR and Jess Phillips. I am looking forward to having more women talking sense centre stage.

Dd is also keen on Labour's plan to allow 16yo vote although apparently she knows more Tories than me! I think that is what they are saying is swinging the far right vote in Europe, the young vote?

Agree totally @MrTiddlesTheCat they've raided it all. I think Labour will need a dept to take stock of who has squirrelled what away where and have some public Court cases. I don't know how Boris avoided prison to this day.

I want Boris Johnson to face criminal charges (I have opposed the death penalty all my life though). I understand the other political parties remaining silent on this during the campaign, as it would make a martyr out of the traitor and condoner of sex offences.

Just on another thread about not bothering to vote because "they're all the same".
Who was it on here who posted a brilliant article summing up what good Labour did in their time in office? Two people have actually said they're old enough to remember the last labour government and they're all the same!

@DuncinToffee was it you who posted about the good done by the labour party?

I haven't seen that thread so it wasn't me, Blossomtoes or iClaudine are more likely to post that.

It wasn’t me. I remember seeing it and I really wish I’d saved it. Just found something very similar though.

@Piggywaspushed Scotland is a collectivist country, basically, along with the Scandinavian countries.

Lesley Riddoch has done an excellent series of films about our Nordic neighbours https://www.lesleyriddoch.com/films-mobile

@mibbelucieachwell This (and the anti Brexit threads that superseded the Westminstender thread) is the only place I tend to be open about my pro-independence views. I've stopped even attempting to engage on the Scotsnet threads. I don't like being portrayed as "thick" Hmm not suggesting that you've implied that but it's the tenor of the Scotsnet threads on the topic Sad

I can understand the desire to want to stay to "work for a better UK" Smile - but for the last 25 years, I've decided that that would be better achieved by demonstrating a different/better way as a good neighbour.

The problem is that the UK gets - and has always got - the government that England wants Hmm That's even more the case with the recent boundary changes, with Scotland losing 2, Wales losing 2 and England gaining 10 MPs.

Plus I think it would do Scotland good to not be able to blame others for any difficulties. Grin (And to be topical: I don't think the Scottish team will get beyond the group stages until we've achieved independence and have better self belief not that I follow football Wink)

Is there any way to find out where the battle bus is going to be because I would love to hear Angela Rayner speak, both myself and my dad are really impressed by her and think shes going to make an excellent prime minister one day.

cardibach · 16/06/2024 17:46

Evenstar · 16/06/2024 15:17

We had Angela Rayner’s battle bus here today, she spoke very well, I was really impressed. Lots of us had photos with her and she was lovely to everyone and she was joined by June Sarpong who was also really lovely. There was huge consensus amongst the people I spoke to that we have to get this government out and that the alternative of another 5 years of this is something that would destroy the country.

I went to the leadership/deputy leadership hustings when she was elected. She’s a very, very good speaker when you see her in person. I’m a bit in awe. Mind you, the other women for deputy were also awesome. Rosena Allin-Khan in particular.

mibbelucieachwell · 16/06/2024 17:54

Not to derail the thread, but it makes me nervous when people comment on how much more ethical than the rest of the Uk Scottish people are. I don't believe it. I don't believe any one group has the moral high ground on any other group of people. We all have human frailties and having self-awareness should be encouraged. And even if it's the case that Scottish people on the whole have some traits that are positive it's not helpful to say one section of people is 'better' than other people. I have a horror of there being an independent Scotland , which isn't better than the Uk ,(because why would it be, unless Scottish people are 'better' than people in rUK ) and with no Westminster government to blame anymore for the inevitable problems that arise in any society. Who would be blamed then?

I'd just like it to over tbh

Piggywaspushed · 16/06/2024 18:15

I don't think anyone did say better? Just distinctively different.

Tory donor fury as Rishi Sunak pulls out of attending its Black and White Ball this week

Tickets were £1,500 with him as the main guest

Donors were told he will skip the Ball to attend a TV debate

But they aren't buying it - 'He just needs to pop in for half an hour' one said

‘You leave D-Day early, you don’t go to the summer party, how can you expect other people to turn up for you?’

This has just made me well up a bit

Not usually a royal fan. Maybe I'm getting more traditional in my old age

Really? It’s a nice pic, but not a chance they actually made the post… (though I’m sure they do love their dad).

Oh the whole article not just that picture. I had a recent bereavement (not my dad thankfully) so I'm a bit sensitive about family just now

He must be doing it on purpose.
My tinfoil hat is wondering if the Tufton Street financers are backing reform and have told Rishi to get the Tories destroyed from within

pointythings · 16/06/2024 18:51

My DS is really struggling this Father's Day. He has virtually no memories of the time when my late husband was a good dad and we had good times, before the alcohol took over. The memories of the bad times are still so vivid. His older sibling does have some of those good memories. It's really tough.

BIossomtoes · 16/06/2024 18:54

So sorry Pointy. It’s a really tough day for lots of us. 🌷

dontcallmelen · 16/06/2024 18:55

I really wouldn’t think this is beyond the realms of possibility that little twit really doesn’t learn from mistakes does he.
