How much are we talking about?

RosesAreRedRight · 12/06/2024 11:16

Faust

FatmanandKnobbin · 12/06/2024 11:16

At this point in the month I would probably sell my soul for a weeks shopping and an electricity top up.

MonsteraMama · 12/06/2024 11:16

I sold my soul in highschool to the immensely goth son of the local vicar for a coffee and a chupa chups lolly.

High school was weird. Hope he's looking after it.

I wouldn't. I'm not particularly religious but I am fastidiously cynical. If someone was willing to pay for my soul, it must have a value/purpose. Therefore, I'm best keeping it. Just in case!

ouch321 · 12/06/2024 11:20

There's a funny Simpsons episode where Bart sells his soul to Milhouse for 5 dollars.

See that’s my sort of thinking. Do I believe a soul exists? Well no, but if someone is willing to put a price on it, then maybe it’s something you best keep just in case

The ‘soul’ is a religious concept. I’m an atheist. My mind/consciousness will be extinguished when my body dies. So if someone’s prepared to pay me crazy amounts of money for something imaginary, bring it on!

Lilacdew · 12/06/2024 11:25

Nope. There are many ways to make money. Only one soul that's mine.

Chypre · 12/06/2024 11:25

I would maybe lease it or consider shared ownership. Apparently you can make a lot more money with that, judging from property market...

ManilowBarry · 12/06/2024 11:27

No. If I believe in a soul then I believe in heaven and hell. Therefore when I die I want my soul to go to heaven do I can be reunite with my loved ones especially my dogs, ponies and cats.

MumApril1990 · 12/06/2024 11:29

There’s no such thing as a soul, if you mean an immaterial immortal spirit inside me somewhere

TheMithrasDirective · 12/06/2024 11:43

If it can be sold, that means it's real and I end up in some sort of hell for eternity after I die? Then no, obviously not.

That was always my problem with Faust and other similar stories tbh. Why would you commit to eternity in hell for the sake of being rich or powerful for the relatively tiny amount of time you're alive? It couldn't possibly be worth it, even if you were king of the entire world.

Chersfrozenface · 12/06/2024 11:48

If they're daft enough to pay me for a thing that doesn't exist, I'd be negotiating on a bridge, a left-handed paintbrush and a tin of tartan paint as well.

DimplesToadfoot · 12/06/2024 11:52

Sell? I'd give it away, I was born evil, if anyone wants to be mug enough to take it, then good luck to them

DiscoDragon · 12/06/2024 11:57

No I don't think so, I wouldn't want the lack of a soul to prevent me from achieving my dream of becoming a ghost when I die. So many people to haunt!

Porageeater · 12/06/2024 11:59

It’s a good question. I like to think of myself as an atheist and so of course I would because it doesn’t exist and would be money for nothing. But I had a catholic upbringing so my gut reaction was no!

But also who is buying it? I don’t want to sell it to Elon Musk, because evil. And I don’t want to sell it to a vulnerable person because I would feel bad taking their money.

Greenflamesburn · 12/06/2024 12:00

@ouch321 My thoughts were no. I like opening automatic doors 😂
that episode came to mind.

AuntieMaud · 12/06/2024 12:02

No!!

Save aresoles

TuesdayWhistler · 12/06/2024 12:03

Soul and morals are sold every day.

The moment you alter your beliefs so as not to lose contracts, opportunities etc
You've sold soul and morals.

Celebrities supporting the latest thing, but behind closed doors couldn't give a shit.
politicians bending the knee and pretending subjects matter to them, when all they want is a vote.
Any YouTube that pushes an awful phone app because they're paid to do so.

It's all akin to selling your soul to the highest bidder.
I couldn't do it.

pinkspeakers · 12/06/2024 12:03

Umm. What does this practically involve? I'm not sure I'd actually be giving anything up, so I'd take the money.

But if it means paying me to do something immoral, then probably not. Unless it is only a little immoral...

BardsAreAssholes · 12/06/2024 12:04

I haven’t got one, so there’s a money-making opportunity I can’t take advantage of.

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 12/06/2024 12:09

No.
It's the only thing you have you can't lose.

Gettingbysomehow · 12/06/2024 12:17

No!!! I'm 62 I wouldn't have enough time left to enjoy my ill gotten gains.
