Does anyone else get nervous before going away?

Does anyone else get nervous before going away for a few nights? I don’t know if it’s a mix or nerves and excitement or just nerves but I always feel on edge, worry about stupid things like what if I’m poorly when I’m away or things go wrong somehow. Please tell me I’m not the only one?!

I don’t. I clean the house as if royalty were visiting, and wash all bedding though. Doesn’t everyone?

Mojodojocasahous · 11/06/2024 19:58

Yesssss

Last summer holiday I didn’t even want to get in the airport taxi I was so stressed out about remembering everything

sleekcat · 11/06/2024 19:59

I only get stressed about getting everything ready, pets sorted etc. Not about the actual going away.

LockieD · 11/06/2024 20:01

Yes! This!!! I clean the house from top to bottom. When we went away at Easter, on coming back home I actually thought we'd moved out the house was so clean and in order 😅 Every. Single.Time. I have no idea why?

DuckonaBike · 11/06/2024 20:01

Yes, I know just what you mean. I get really anxious about going on holiday. I have to remind myself of all the previous times I was anxious and then everything was fine.

Yes. I worry about the cat, the guinea pigs, the plants, the house getting struck by lightning… It makes me very bad tempered in the run up to going away. I’m fine once I’m away though.

No, I don’t. Away 2-3 times a month on average, I’d do nothing but clean on my days off if I had this level of commitment before every trip 😅

MichaelAndEagle · 11/06/2024 20:04

Yes I do. I'm single, so its all on me so I think I'm worried something might go wrong and I won't cope.
Hasn't so far! But I still get nervous.

Blackcountryexile · 11/06/2024 20:06

Yes! I'm always convinced I'm going to forget something vital or take the wrong clothes. Then I'm sure everything will go wrong on the journey. The worst has never happened and I've got better over time. My mum was a very nervous traveller so I think it stems from my early experiences.

TheChosenTwo · 11/06/2024 20:06

The bit that I hate is the actual flying, I hate it so much! Other than that though, im not fazed by it. if we forget anything (other than passports and a box of medication) we can always buy it there, I have a cleaner who comes in when we’re away so it’s always lovely to come back to and I generally just bloody love being on holiday.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 11/06/2024 20:08

Yes I only realised several years agoi it’s my anxiety.

I have a knot in my stomach and I keep needing to go for little wees

Alwaystired23 · 11/06/2024 20:10

Yes, we're going away in the summer, and I already know I wont sleep the night before as we have an early flight. Every time i think about it, I get a bit anxious. It's the same as a long drive. We went to stay with my sister and were driving from Wales to Scotland (about 11 hours). Once we're there, I'm fine.

MaidOfSteel · 11/06/2024 20:12

I get anxious, too! About making sure I haven't forgotten anything, something going wrong at home when we're not there, something going wrong while we're away. I usually feel better once we arrive!

tobee · 11/06/2024 20:15

Yes! I made a thread about this before. Then often feel exhausted on the first night of the holiday; it's usually latish and thinking "why the hell did I come? I wish I was sleeping in my own familiar bed tonight!" Usually it goes after 1 good sleep.

I find the best way to deal with it is to recognise that I get like this and ride it out.

whyamisotiredallthetime · 11/06/2024 20:15

I do the same

I get anxious if I've not cleaned enough for the burglars

What will the neighbours think of my grass off it gets long ( in the week I'm away )

What if I forget something I need

Is there oil in my car

Is the fuel tank absolutely full

What if I lose the booking for my airport parking

Ridiculous- never had any of these possible problems happen - ever

PianPianPiano · 11/06/2024 20:17

I swear it's much worse since covid for me. I don't think I'd ever worried about the possibility of someone being ill and scupperong the holdiay before. Now I spend the week before on edge, terrified one of us is going to come down with something that will render us unable to fly!

PeachyKeane · 11/06/2024 20:19

Yes until the bags are checked in and we are through security. Then I relax and enjoy.

Ihaveamagicwand · 11/06/2024 20:22

I don’t get anxious but I nearly always get to the point where, a couple of days before we’re due to leave, I would give nearly anything to cancel!

Thankfully I can usually work through these feelings of being overwhelmed by the amount of preparations/fear of forgetting something, etc. and have a great feeling of relief when we actually get in the car to go.

CertainAppealToIt · 11/06/2024 20:22

I don’t. I clean the house as if royalty were visiting, and wash all bedding though. Doesn’t everyone?

Ha, same here. My house is always cleanest at the point it's about to be empty for a week or two!

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 11/06/2024 20:27

I do if I’m the organiser. I have a horrid fear I’ll get to the check in desk and they’ll declare my tickets fraudulent and chase me off yelling ‘chancer’ at me. Or the hotel will have no record of me or I booked flights for the wrong day etc etc.

Weirdly though I’m going away with family in the summer and someone else is booking and I am sanguine and calm about the whole thing. If they’d booked the wrong flights or whatever I’d just roll with it.

JulietSierra · 11/06/2024 20:32

I do! I get stressed about getting ill when we’re away, stressed about something happening to family at home while we’re away, sad about not having my home comforts for the time we’re away… I’m such a pain!!
Usually happy as Larry once I’m on the plane though!!

wavingfuriously · 11/06/2024 20:41

Yes defo! You are not the only one OP

singingintherainrainrain · 11/06/2024 20:53

Yes, I hate the loss of control

Mummysgogetter · 11/06/2024 21:08

Yes me too. I also hate leaving my cat, even though she is being well cared for, I worry she will die while I’m away or get seriously injured and I won’t have control because I will be thousands of miles away!!!
