How do you clean your shower?

Ok, I'm feeling officially old now as it's Saturday night and it doesn't seem that long ago I was getting pissed on cheap pre-nightclub wine, then heading out with friends, full of excitement at what the night might bring.

Now I'm sitting indoors, ( still drinking cheap wine) but full of excitement at the new over-the-bath shower I had fitted today! 🤦‍♀️😳

So anyway - to the question!

How do you clean your showers? Are there any brilliant ready to use products out there, that don't involve me mixing white vinegar, bicarb of soda, wild hamster semen and having the watermarks on the shower screen exorcised?

The shower is chrome, the screen is glass and the tiles are ceramic matt stone effect.

Thank you.

Ok, will try method, thank you!

Yeah i use method shower spray and the shower squeegee thing.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 08/06/2024 23:17

Yes, this is the sort of content I’m here for!

The squeegee really does make a difference in all honesty. Very hard water here and using the squeegee after every shower - including the tiles - has kept the water marks at a minimum. I do use viakal every so often. And also for all the chrome fittings, every so often I’ll spray a bit of WD40 on a cotton wool pad and wipe down, keeps it shiny and clean, wipe off with a clean cotton wool pad after though so not oily.

50:50 vinegar and water , microfibre cloth. Spray before showering then wipe while you're in there . never feels like a big job and feet don't get too vinegary 😂

Keep a spray bottle of water+white vinegar in the shower, spray down then squeegee after every shower. I tell myself it's keeping me flexible.

I use a sponge daddy , I put hot water in a basin , one cup of Aldi multipurpose cleaner (copy of flash) and a little squeeze of Aldi fairy liquid. Then I dip the sponge daddy and go over everything. Then wash it off . I do the same with the glass , wash it off , wipe with dry cloth . If there's a bit more of a mess I use washing powder for the bath .

I bought a scrapey blade squeegee thing as someone told me to run that across the screen after every shower.

Not convinced it'll make that much difference though.

It does ! Just wipe with a dry cloth afterwards

GalacticalFarce · 08/06/2024 23:36

I'm a lazy one so it's method shower spray after every shower then a proper clean once a fortnight using viakal.
I've got a scrubber on a stick with some cleaner in it and tell the kids to scrub everything once a week. Think they have a half hearted attempt.

I love my sponge daddy for the shower and the bath, sink

ShowerOfShites · 08/06/2024 23:52

Some great suggestions here, thanks all!

Can honestly say that I have never washed the shower screen! Shall think about it tomorrow 🙂

Use the pink stuff with it or washing powder. It does wonders

DiscoBeat · 08/06/2024 23:59

I use cif cream and a non stick scourer. Viakal for occasional times if it needs more oomph on the watermarks.

mathanxiety · 09/06/2024 00:01

Pink paste on the tiles.

Magic sponge on the tub.

Baggie of white vinegar for the shower head. You tie it on with rubber bands and let the shower head sit in the vinegar overnight.

Get yourself a squeegee and wipe all water off the tile surrounds after every shower. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the tiles and any chrome faucets, etc.

Astonish cleaner mostly or hot water and washing up liquid- although am
intrigued about the viakol and the vinegar!!

Personally I find that domestic hamster semen works FAR better than the savage kind or anything else actually. It stores well too. You can find it at any M&S in the natural bio home care products. But do have to search for it towards the back and bottom rows as they run out of it so quickly. Must be in high demand these days, who would have thought?

I thought wild hamster semen might be more eco friendly.

Have I fallen for a scam? 😭

I generally wipe it down with a sponge *no chemicals whilst I'm showering and then leave daily shower spray on the screens. Then when I notice the shower tray getting grubby I do the scrunched up kitchen paper thing and bleach the hell out of it and leave it for a few hours.

justasking111 · 09/06/2024 07:43

Scrunched up paper thingie??£

Ifailed · 09/06/2024 07:50

I clean my shower once a year, whether it needs it or not.

IwishIdidntlikesugar · 09/06/2024 07:55

I find the Method products to be quite ineffective. They just have a nice smell. Viakal best for watermarks i think plus rubbing your taps after with some sort of towel. I use cif cream to clean the bath but its a pain to rinse away.

themurkyera · 09/06/2024 07:57

Astonish Mould and Mildew on the tiles. Fill the bath a bit and use the blue flash bathroom cleaner in that. Leave for 10 minutes then I have a scrubbing brush on a pole. Scrub over everything, drain and rinse.

Footgoose · 09/06/2024 08:07

Purdy and Fig bathroom cleaner if you want your bathroom to also smell amazing after cleaning. ( some Purdy and Fig Ohhh Du Loo down the toilet finishes off the routine beautifully ).
lakeland shower head soaking liquid now and again ( it’s green liquid in a large bottle ) . I have 6 shower heads that I unscrew and soak in a sink all together, they come out sparkling and scale free .

ColonelRhubarbBikini · 09/06/2024 08:22

Viakal all the way. Once a week spray it everywhere and let it sit for 10 then give it a scrub rinse it off and dry it with a microfibre cloth. Day to day karcher window vac the shower screen and Mr Muscle no rinse spray the rest.

Oblomov24 · 09/06/2024 08:31

I use all these things and my bathrooms and showers are awful.
