I reported i think the 2nd thread on this disappearance after a particularly horrible post. Speculating about stuff in a way we dont need. MNHQ said theyd look at it.
I think all these threads should be pulled

Orrrr you could just not read them? 👋

If you search you’ll find him comment on it in interviews. Another poster linked a very obvious article which may be fake but he’s commented on periods of low mood throughout his life.

Really? MM has done a lot of public awareness stuff on how to improve mental health through exercise or mindfulness or cold therapy etc, but I don’t think I’ve seen anything that you’re alluding to.

I certainly wouldn’t be propping up wild unevidenced theories with some random website.

margymary · 08/06/2024 23:38

Somebody upthread mad a good point. His wife and friends must have thought he was going back to their villa or they wouldn't have left the beach without him.

If he's said I'm going for a walk at 1.30 and hadn't returned at 4.30 yiu woudn't just go "oh well" and go home would you?
I so hope he is ok, he filmed programmes here is Aus too and seemed thoroughly lovely.

Fuck sake some of the comments on here are disgusting. Speculating not only that he may have killed himself but also how he might have done so. Some of you should be fucking ashamed. This thread is just like the Nicola Bulley ones. I suspect that the main contributers on this thread are the same idiots that were on those threads with a name change. The posting style of 3 or 4 posters here is very similar.

If you don’t like this thread (or indeed the Nicola Bulley one) why the hell are you on here? Also how on earth can you remember the posting style of posters from a thread that long ago? Weird.

No one has said anything wrong, it’s is a discussion board and we are having a discussion 🤷‍♀️

Yes really I’ve found several here’s one excerpt ….

“Well versed in the techniques of mindfulness and cognitive behavioural therapy, Michael - who has a degree in psychiatry - employed these exercises to manage his anxiety and low mood, but says it was the change in his diet that really accelerated his results.“

The mayor will not have had media training. I think he is coming across as less than measured in his comments but he would never have expected to be thrust into the centre of a media storm like this. I don't think there is much to be read into it other than someone well outside their comfort zone.

And either speaking not in their first language or things being lost in translation.

ducktapez · 08/06/2024 23:41

@margymary yeah the media really should let us know what the state of play was as otherwise whats the point in them reporting different things. A Greek journalist apparently said he was heading home but in her brief statement his wife said he had simply "gone for a walk". They you have the mayor saying he cant understand why MM left his wife and friends at the beach. No two stories add up, which is perplexing in itself.

If there are odd comments made by people involved in a missing person case you can’t be shocked when people try to make sense of it.

It does genuinely shock me when people seem to centre themselves in a real life situation that they know diddly squat about.

Is it boredom? Disassociation that it’s real and not the latest series of Broadchurch? Do they wish they’d become police detectives?

I get that it’s of interest. My husband and I have just had a brief conversation along the lines of ‘How odd. What could possibly have happened to him?’ That’s normal.

Talking with such certainty about what’s happened/how the mayor is feeling/the missing man was depressed/why did he go to the beach/why didn’t he take his phone/looking at google earth…. Isn’t normal behaviour. It’s salacious and I wonder why people take it so far.

Omg it’s late 30’sc in shade, humid, real feel apparently mid 40’sc, he’s not a young healthy man who knows the terrain backwards. You don’t randomly take short cuts across rugged terrain in unknown areas abroad with no means of communication.

Its irresponsible/irrational behaviour!

Wow. Again, someone managing to put their all into making a tragic situation worse.

BestZebbie · 08/06/2024 23:42

CottageGardens · 08/06/2024 16:07

The local major said:

Mr Papakaloudoukas added: “There are also many troubling questions here. Why did he leave the beach and his wife and friends?

“Why did he not take his telephone ? From the CCTV footage it’s also clear he didn’t stop for a drink in Pedi or take a rest.

“He seemed to be walking very determinedly, surely it would have been better to stop and have a coffee or some water but no he decided to carry on.”

Sounds like a mental health crisis to me sadly.

If he was walking back to a friend's villa and it was hot and uncomfortable out, why would he stop at a street cafe only a couple of miles away from home and spin out the journey rather than just getting back to the aircon and his book, and a kitchen full of a choice of food and drinks (etc)?

I'm sure some of it is boredom but I also think you can have a life and still be interested and follow this type of thing.

LionBarPlease · 08/06/2024 23:44

It’s human nature to be interested and to care about the outcome.

Because he didn't head straight home. He headed the opposite direction literally into the wilderness.

Gormenghastly · 08/06/2024 23:44

4 nights now though. I do have some deep concerns at this point.
Media just regurgitate and pollyfilla repetitive nothingness for page views, so not much use there unless a major change, sadly.

At 23.15 you stated I hadn’t realised he suffered from depression

But now your telling me you've seen him reference it in interviews. A rapid gain in knowledge of MM's mental health history . I did a quick Google and didn't find any references.

For reference, your post:
Oaktree55 · Today 23:15
@ducktapez Pure conjecture but perhaps he didn’t want family to find him or for it to be in uk. It is possible to overdose rather than wait for the elements to get him. I’m purely trying to make sense of the Mayors comments he does rather seem to be hinting at a purpose to the whole situation. I hadn’t realised he suffered from depression.

Cos I'd like to know what goes on in the minds of those that walk quickly all of the time.

I walk quickly, I just don't realise unless I'm with someone who tells me to slow down. My thoughts are perfectly normal, what shall I have for tea? Must call my mum when I get home, shall I fill up with petrol or leave it until I'm on the red. I'm not stressed, I'm not troubled, I just walk quickly.

A previous poster (can’t find it now) pointed out there are goats and sheep on the peninsula, which would need access to water. I’ve also read this in news reports. Quick search says feral goats require 2.5l to 4l a day, though they can take this via vegetation. So, maybe a slim hope (if he’s conscious but injured) he’s somehow followed their lead and managing to hydrate himself enough to survive.

I mentioned the goats and sheep. I hope you're right, and that he would think of vegetarian - and hopefully has found a water source too.

Not at all this is a public forum where people can discuss any topics of interest to them. We all find different things of interest.

What I find bizarre is people who aren’t interested in this news item popping on to berate others for perfectly reasonable comments. I’d not think of popping onto a thread I have no interest in and commenting that they’re all boring and should shut up!

No. I think the people treating this like an exciting drama need to be called out.

It’s really over the top.

I suppose it depends on your subjective view of obsession. But of course you could say that about anything. In general an obsession tends to the unhealthy end of the spectrum. There will always be people at both ends of any given subject. I think the real issue tends to be thoughtless and uninformed and often cruel comments about the family though, who are clearly going through hell, vs the level of interest.

DuckEggy · 08/06/2024 23:46

Seems unlikely. If he's well enough to forage then he's well enough to have been sighted today. There is no water source up there! Have you looked at how barren it is.

Here's the words of the mayor who knows more than all of us : “There are only rocks, no shade, no trees. With 47 degrees heat you can’t survive.”

IDontSleepIDream · 08/06/2024 23:50

SabrinaThwaite · 08/06/2024 23:47

Anxiety and depression are different conditions, and low mood is not necessarily depression.

They can all go hand in hand though. So it’s not out of the realms of possibility that he has taken himself off somewhere…

Lets hope not though and let’s hope he’s found tomorrow 🤞
