Party Bags Fillers Ideas Needed Please

Planning DS first proper party he will be turning 5 and having a whole class party. I am looking for some ideas for party bag fillers that have been a hit with kids ages 3-6.

Not looking to include books, seeds or bubbles but any other ideas greatly appreciated.

Make life easier for yourself and don't do party bags, especially for a whole class party! I stopped a few years ago and don't regret it. Out of all the party bags my kids have received, the only things they really play with are the shitty plastic whistles which I bin as soon as possible. We've had plenty of different types of bags from environmentally friendly to complete tat and none of it gets used more than the rest of the day following the party.

We also do cake at the party rather than slicing it and wrapping in a napkin for the bags, much nicer.

Glow stars
Balloon
Bubble wands are always a big hit

For the older kids I bulk buy Pokémon cards or nice hair slides/bands. Temporary tattoos are always a hit as well or little notebooks

Hadalifeonce · 07/06/2024 09:30

I just used to put in a slice of cake wrapped in a napkin.

We do a piñata and the kids fill their party bags with the loot.

DD's 4th birthday was Paw Patrol themed so I got felt paw patrol masks from Amazon, in a little paper bag with a slice of cake and a mini bag of haribo.

I bloody hate the ones with bouncy balls, balloons and loads of plastic shite. There is a lovely website which does really cute fillers (I'm looking for the name of them, they were mini baking kits) but when I looked they were nearly £7 per bag!

I appreciate that they're not everyone's cup of tea but he wants to give his friends a party bag and given this is likely the only big party he's going to have I don't mind obliging the request.

Some great ideas so far especially loving the idea of temporary tattoos I used to love those as a kid.

That's an amazing idea!

Packet of Smarties
A Hot Wheels car
Some stickers.

That'll do 🙂

WheelofCheeses · 07/06/2024 13:49

Pokémon cards.

Pokémon cards.

I think this would be a great idea actually as the all seem very into Pokemon at this age. Would you do individual packs of just a selection of loose cards?

Sunflower seeds (to plant, not eat) if most of the kids have gardens.

Strawberry plant, as above.

The hot wheels/smarties/stickers combo mentioned above is always good.

We also do a piñata filled with sweets and some stuff they happen to be into, like snap bands.

Consumables like a slice of cake, some fruit, bubble bath, etc. I was chatting with some friends about this and we all moaned about how we hate party bags full of plastic crap! The best gift was a coloured spf stick which was fun and useful (but have to be careful of those with sensitive skin).

SquigglePigs · 07/06/2024 15:17

Novelty key rings went down really well at DD's 5th birthday - the kids loved putting them on their school backpacks to jazz them up.

The trouble is that's you thinking as an adult, there's many things we dislike as we get older heck I don't like soft play or pretending to be spiderman when playing with my son but we do it because they love it. I've yet to meet a 5 year old who hates party bags full of plastic crap which is why DS wants to do them for his party as he's loved getting them.

By the end of the party bag phase with my three dses, I was just putting sweets in the party bags.

lovelydayIhave · 07/06/2024 15:25

Stickers.

Fidget Toys are very popular too.

Hateliars34 · 07/06/2024 15:25

We got some crafty stuff from the works, little kaleidoscopes from Amazon and cute rubber puzzles. Had a piñata with sweets too for the kids to put in their party bags, and some prizes from pass the parcel.

Best things we've had which still get played with months later: books, a light up dice, a weird toy with extendable arms and legs and fiddling toys (I may have stolen a few from my DD to fiddle with at work!)

BinLolly · 07/06/2024 15:30

I'm really appreciating all these ideas so thank you.

Fidget toys is a good shout too.

Fidget toys, key rings, pencils with toppers, mini slinkies, bubbles, scratch art book marks are things we have done or received that are popular.

onwardandupwards · 07/06/2024 15:44

My dd almost 6 went to a small party last weekend, in her bag was a small bouncy ball, a sweet cone, some tattoos and stickers and a small pot of farting slime ( the slime was a massive hit)

AlwaysBlowingLightbulbs · 07/06/2024 15:51

Party bags are always a waste of money and parents don't want the tat. I know when we get them it's all in the bin within 24hrs

Sweet cones always a hit.
£10 for 10 books in the works with a slice of cake.

Wheelbarrowbabe · 07/06/2024 15:51

I have bought bundles of little plastic figurines (such as Pokémon or MLP) 2nd hand off of eBay and used these in party bags. Cheap and no new plastic tat.

More recently I bought a big bracelet making kit, specifically the "Cotton Twist" kit which has really pretty wooden beads and allocated one DIY bracelet to each child. Shopped around to find that reduced and it worked out at £1.10 per child.

I've also seen herbs / strawberries / small bedding flowers given out which is really lovely and a big hit with 5 year olds.

Revelatio · 07/06/2024 15:53

@BinLolly

For me it’s the environmental issue. We’re trying to bring our family up as best we can for us in that respect, so they’re not really bothered with plastic crap.

BingoMarieHeeler · 07/06/2024 15:55

We just did Lego glasses and a cupcake for DS’ 5th party and no one complained! In fact had lots of positive comments about them for the following weeks.
