Party Bags Fillers Ideas Needed Please

Planning DS first proper party he will be turning 5 and having a whole class party. I am looking for some ideas for party bag fillers that have been a hit with kids ages 3-6.

Not looking to include books, seeds or bubbles but any other ideas greatly appreciated.

Sainsburys do multipacks of playdough on 2 for £15. You could get a whole class set for £15. I'd do that, and add a packet of smarties cos they are in a paper packet, make a good noise, and the kids love them. Add a sheet of stickers as they cost pennies on amazon. Maybe a multipack of gel pens split up too. You could do the whole lot for less than £1 per child, very little plastic, very little waste.

sunglasses! I got a whole bunch from Amazon for DS’s party bags. I got sooooo many thank yous and photos of the kids in the glasses from parents. It’s plastic crap but it’s useful plastic crap.

Other fillers I’ve had are squishy toys and those crayons that have lots of different colours in the one crayon.

If you have a little time to allow for delivery then try looking on Ali Express for fidget popper key rings, mini slinky’s, jumping frogs, bouncy balls etc. If you search party bag fillers loads of ideas come up and the prices are very reasonable. I tend to do two or three things plus some sweets and then cake. Ali express also sell sheets of printed greaseproof paper, which are much nicer for wrapping slices of cake in as they don’t stick to it like they do napkins.

Ive ordered some UV pens for my daughter’s party bags, fidget popper keyrings, one other thing I can’t remember, then we’ll put in some sweets and a slice of cake.

One friend of mine put whistles in the party bags. There was lots of (tongue in cheek) hate for her on the group chat that evening!

She clearly hates you all 😂 she's not even being subtle about it.

I hate party bags. They are so wasteful. But they seem to be some kind of requirement.

Last year, my sons party was only 5 kids so I did Lego, water guns and sweets from the piñata.

This year, I just bought sweet cones from a local sweet shop. Job done. I think that's what I'm going to do moving forward. I actually also hate sweets but the kids love them and I don't think other parents hate the constant sugar shoved at our kids as much as I do. Tbf, most of that sort of thing gets thrown out as well in our house but I noticed most kids seem to eat the sweets as they are leaving.

I'm a bit worried about searching flick a chicken 😂 sounds like it could lead to some very interesting search results. 😆😆

Surprisingly it doesn't. It should give you exactly what I mean. It's actually a great party bag filler!

Some joyless responses here, Op. You sound lovely and I understand your desire to do memorable party bags, especially if it's likely the only party ds will have. It's a few years since we gave and received party bags but balloons, sweets, cake, fun pencil and party blower were all gratefully received. Kids love them. I don't imagine many parents put it straight in the bin after the party as that's pretty unpleasant.

Yes. Some parents do put this stuff straight in the bin more or less. I do.

ciaopizza · 07/06/2024 21:37

I did
Cake
Chewy sweet
Animal notelets
Stickers
Animal keyring
Biropen with different colours

Tiger tiger have small things - cheap too

Do you just throw it all away simply because it's come from a party bag? It seems so wasteful. I get it may look like plastic tat to us but most little kids really value that kind of stuff.

Poppet key rings, they were a hit and most kids had them on their school bags.

Can never ever go wrong with a balloon. Kids go wild for them.

Can you remember then pencils which were clear and had different parts for the colours and you'd pull it out and put in the top to push the next colour up? No idea of the name. Love them.

Slap bands

Cattenberg · 07/06/2024 21:53

Puzzle book
Balloon helicopter (made an annoying noise, though!)
Silly putty
Paper sword flicker (a roll of paper on a stick - more fun than it sounds)

hellogood · 07/06/2024 21:54

Thing is, kids love a little bag of plastic tat at the end of a party. I save the unused stuff up then give it back out in my kid's party bags.

Whoopee cushions, all kids love farts
Punch balloons are popular and seem to last ages
Sweets, but no boiled sweet lollipops or really chewy sweets - total choking hazard
Small tube of Pringles

chillicalypso · 07/06/2024 21:58

I did those polystyrene planes and dinosaur curly straws with super hero tattoos

BinLolly · 07/06/2024 22:00

Am glad I started this thread you lovely lot have given me some great ideas. I shall share them with DS and see if anything jumps out at him, it's his party after all so if he likes it then it's likely to be a hit with his school friends.

My DS is 5, he takes about the party bags before the parties even happened.

Hobbycraft, The Works, and Baker Ross do lovely little suncatcher kits - I got a load for 50p each from Hobbycraft in the sale once. Rainbows, aliens, unicorns… they’re good quality and look lovely.

Make your own keyring kit would be good, they could pop them on book bags.

Socks are a fab idea! Cheap baseball caps as it’s a Summer party?

Love the idea of making your own crayons.

Definitely Whoopee Cushions at that age! Have a competition at the end with them!

Chalk always goes down well (with kids, not necessarily parents)…

WheelofCheeses · 07/06/2024 22:19

@BinLolly no you can’t do loose cards! They love opening the packs and comparing and swapping.

calishire · 08/06/2024 08:44

@BinLolly no I don't throw it away just because it came in party bag. I will let my son keep stuff that he seems super keen on but like so many have said kids are excited about the contents for about 30 seconds and then it's forgotten. I don't bin it all but if it's total crap, yes I do get rid of it whether it's the bin or charity box. We even bin the sweets much of the time as my son usually forgets about that as well.

thinkfast · 08/06/2024 09:49

Mood rings normally go down well

Bbq1 · 08/06/2024 12:35

Op, do come back pl and tell us what you and your ds went with for the party bags! My ds is 18 but I'm invested in your thread!

Cattenberg · 09/06/2024 18:43

I have a soft spot for the balloon helicopters despite the plastic and the weird whining noise. They are quite fun and make an impact.

If you try them, I suggest including a spare balloon to avoid disappointment. I’m told that they fly even better if you use a long balloon - we haven't tried this yet, though.

Sunflower seeds (to plant, not eat) if most of the kids have gardens.

Strawberry plant, as above.

The hot wheels/smarties/stickers combo mentioned above is always good.

We also do a piñata filled with sweets and some stuff they happen to be into, like snap bands.

Read the OP. No seeds.

I'm doing a whole class 5th birthday for my DD & two school friends. I remember how much I loved party bags as a kid, so I'm going 90s vibes. Factory Shop haul....Bubbles (packs of 24 work out 25p per bottle), glow sticks (100 for £5), plastic toy will silver ball that you have to fit in a hole. Lidl knock-off haribo bags, plus the cake. Sorted. It's a triple party so we've had 40 bags to do and this was cheap and cheerful!
