GROSS PHOTO WARNING - Frozen peas or A&E?

I’ve NC’d for this as my knees may be identifiable 🤣
Went arse over tit at lunchtime today on the pavement.
Really hurt my knees - but my left one in particular is extremely painful and I can’t bend it and I’m dragging it around When I walk.

Is it a case of (continuing with) frozen peas or A&E??

Right knee for comparison which is sore but not nearly as painful as the left knee

Ouch that looks so painful! I hope you get answers this morning. I wouldn't leave either just stick it out till you're seen.

I hate that it's necessary but I pretty much pack a rucksack with drinks and snacks and extra clothes if I ever have to go to hospital now (even outpatients and a and e)

GoodnightJude1 · 06/06/2024 06:53

That looks really painful OP!
Hope you get sorted soon 💐

K0OLA1D · 06/06/2024 06:57

Hope you go on ok op

Ouch.

So I came home as they were so busy, on their advice and have been told to go back for a 9am X-ray. I got a bit of sleep at least!

At least you've been triaged, have a referral for an X-ray and hopefully the start of a plan. Not an entirely wasted night. Hope you make a speedy recovery.

flyingwingsabove · 06/06/2024 08:16

Ouch. That does look nasty. Hope you’re alright and it’s nothing serious once you’ve had your X-ray.

That's good that they could assess you and that they told you to go home for some rest as opposed to spending the night on a cold hospital seat.

🤞 for a good X-ray

OrlandointheWilderness · 06/06/2024 09:28

Glad you are being seen OP, that looks like you need an X ray.

Allmarbleslost · 06/06/2024 09:30

Bloody hell op that looks really painful. I hope you don't have a long wait this morning.

TerfTalking · 06/06/2024 09:31

Looks like mine did after a fall, it was bursitis, took about six months for me not to have an elephant knee but the pain disappeared long before.

Good luck OP, hope it's nothing more than mine was.

Lovemycat2023 · 06/06/2024 09:47

Bit late to the thread but I was going to say that I fell off my bike and had a similar outcome. They x rayed it as the doctor was sure I’d fractured my kneecap but I hadn’t. The biggest issue with the grit in the wound. Despite them cleaning it out it still got infected so watch out for that. Took ages before I could bend it properly. Good luck when you go back.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 06/06/2024 12:00

Hope you've been seen for your x-ray now

Rosscameasdoody · 06/06/2024 12:24

My mum had a similar accident and her knee looked very similar to this - it was a fractured patella. I’d go to A&E and get it Xrayed just to be sure.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/06/2024 12:25

Looks as if it could be disclocated to me
The tendons and ligaments around the knee are easily stretched and the patella can slip( as I know to my cost)
I hope you are comfortable in A&E right now

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/06/2024 12:25

Dislocated

MonsteraMama · 06/06/2024 12:31

Oof looks painful! Hope it's something straightforward when you eventually get your x-ray 🤞

@ToAandEorNotToAandE I had a riding accident once...my knee was slammed into a tree doing a small cross country jump when horse refused- it was very swollen and hot...and I couldn't walk on it.

I went to Casualty- years ago when services were better staffed- and the lovely Triage nurse said ''I can tell that's infected right now..I asked how, and she said ''you wouldn't let me get near it''.

I wasn't aware that I was actually trying to hold her hands back from touching it.

Bedding was so painful I had to make a ''cage'' out of books to support the bedding...if your knee is really painful, it could be infected.

So it’s not broken - phew! It it’s badly bruised so been given advice on how to manage it, as well as crutches and a tetanus jab too

Allthehorsesintheworld · 06/06/2024 12:51

Well that good news nothing is broken but might still take time to repair. I’d carry on with RICE for the next few days.

Well you did the right thing getting it seen to. Hope it heals well and doesn't take forever to do so.

Naran · 06/06/2024 14:55

A&E
or minor injuries can xray, but may have to go to A&E after anyway.

Naran · 06/06/2024 14:55

Oops sorry didn’t rtft
glad it’s not broken

SusanSHelit · 06/06/2024 14:58

That looks very swollen and if you can't bend it it wants an x ray. Do you have any numbness or tingling in that leg?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 06/06/2024 16:23

Rest up and keep it iced as much as you can
It can take a few days for the bruising to appear so it may gets worse before it gets better I'm afraid.
Alternate paracetamol and ibuprofen( if you can take it)
8/500 co codamol is available at a pharmacy if you need something stronger
