GROSS PHOTO WARNING - Frozen peas or A&E?

I’ve NC’d for this as my knees may be identifiable 🤣
Went arse over tit at lunchtime today on the pavement.
Really hurt my knees - but my left one in particular is extremely painful and I can’t bend it and I’m dragging it around When I walk.

Is it a case of (continuing with) frozen peas or A&E??

Right knee for comparison which is sore but not nearly as painful as the left knee

You will wait in A&E no matter what time you go at. It’s irrelevant.

Our minor injuries is really quick and offer mostly the same services. It's perfect first thing in a morning.

determinedtomakethiswork · 05/06/2024 22:37

Just remembered, my hospital's website tells you the waiting time for A&E.

Parentingproblems101 · 05/06/2024 22:37

A&E. Knees are too complex for an MIU.

You could have fluid under the knee cap that requires draining. I say this as a veteran on knee dislocation and I also attained an injury similar to yours both resulting in fluids under the knee. I think you could quite possibly need a&e with this.

I am a bit worried about this. It feels like something is moving about underneath it like a spider.

I might give it an hour and see if I can tolerate the pain enough to go to local minor injuries when it opens at 8am

@stressedespresso well yes but it means op may not have to spend the night and in a&e tonight and could be seen by a minor injuries unit tomorrow. Minor injuries units near me can you see you the same morning when you call 111.

CrushingOnRubies · 05/06/2024 22:38

I'd ring 111 now .

It's hard to tell as it's rather swollen.

In the meantime I'd apply ice and put a cushion underneath to elevate if it's not too painful. Maybe take an ibuprofen to help reduce swelling.

Why wait an hour at home when that would be an hour knocked off your waiting time.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 05/06/2024 22:38

Bloody hell!

Definitely A&E at some point - your left knee looks completely out of place.

Good luck!

That looks horrific. To be honest I don't know whether I'd go to A&E at the moment or first thing in the morning. I'm not sure whether you would be seen before first thing in the morning. Could you phone the hospital and ask what the waiting time is like?

Annoyingly my local hospital isn’t one that has live wait times on their website, I might call though

Do it from the car but pack a bag and go now. That looks dislocated.

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 05/06/2024 22:40

I don’t like it. Go to A&E please. That looks nasty x

Armychefbethebest · 05/06/2024 22:41

Your left kneecap looks as if it's a lot lower down that it should be sorry op I think it's an a and e job it'll be a lot more painful in the morning x

2chocolateoranges · 05/06/2024 22:43

Your knees look uneven, it could be fluid, which may need drained but you could have broken your knee cap.

if you can’t weight bear or walk properly then you need to go to A&E. ….. just in case.

ToAandEorNotToAandE · 05/06/2024 22:44

Thanks all

Think I’m just gonna go.

I’ve been spending the day cringeing - because it was one of those mortifying splat falls where my glasses went one way and my bag went the other - I forgot to worry about my stupid knee 🤪

@ToAandEorNotToAandE i hope it’s nothing too serious, let us know how you get on.
Have you got someone to go with you?
Take care,

ToAandEorNotToAandE · 05/06/2024 22:48

I’ve got DH but we have 2 kids so we will have to wake them, bundle them in the car and have him leave me there (taxi services round here are basically non existent otherwise I’d get a taxi)

Falling over as an adult is horrible, I’m sorry that happened to you.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 05/06/2024 22:51

Definitely go asap, that looks really nasty, you poor thing!

Parentingproblems101 · 05/06/2024 22:52

Good luck.
Call for an ambulance if the pain is severe and you're struggling to mobilise, you might make it worse squeezing into a car.

VolvoFan · 05/06/2024 22:53

A&E. Heavens to Murgatroyd....

FunkyMonks · 05/06/2024 22:54

I feel for you op I did the same on Monday really hurt my knee it's still red and painful but I can move it so think it's the cut etc making mine painful.

scrapsontheside · 05/06/2024 22:54

That looks a bugger! Hope you get seen soon

longdistanceclaraclara · 05/06/2024 22:55

I hope you're at a and e, a fractured patella
Is not pleasant.

LittleSparklyStar · 05/06/2024 22:57

Yikes! Go to an and e! I’m a nurse!

yumyumyumy · 05/06/2024 22:57

I don't think a&e is the place for a swollen knee. Sounds like an urgent treatment centre to me. You won't be triaged until the morning anyway.
