Anyone willing to share whether they can hear their neighbours having sex? I have namechanged for this for obvious reasons but I have been on mumsnet for many years!

DH and I have a pretty decent sex life, and I'm not going to lie and say that when we are at home alone I don't hold back. I mean, I start off thinking, 'I hope the neighbours don't hear us', but when the going gets good I have issues not vocalising it .

My main fear is that we live in a terraced house, it's an old one so we hear occasional noise from the kids next door but mainly nothing. Our bedrooms don't back onto each other which was a deliberate choice.

Do I owe them a bottle of wine, and need to wear a paper bag over my head when I go outside?!

I've lived in terraced houses for all of my 39 years.

This is good news, hopefully. I'm quite friendly with both neighbours, and no one has had trouble meeting my eyes

I live in a terraced and yes I can hear my neighbours both sides and one down (but they are wildly loud and vile) have sex.

Tbf I don’t mind hearing beds knocking on walls, I do mind hearing people scream. No one screams during an orgasm, so just don’t fake it 😂

We used to hear our neighbours. They made some very unusual sounds. Once woke me up in the night!

Im deaf, so I wouldn’t hear neighbours anyway, but I’ve never been a loud one either.

I've been in this terraced house since '84. The only thing I ever hear through the wall is the washing machine.

I used to hear the neighbours in my old house every now and then but their bedroom was right next to ours… can’t say it bothered me but then again it was in the middle of the night.
I always remember being traumatised when I was younger by our neighbours have very loud, very vocal sex with all the windows open in the middle of the day on a Sunday 🤣

Yes I hear my neighbours having sex. I had a big Victorian terrace which was less loud but the smaller workers terraces I’ve had we heard them, regularly, I’m sure they heard us too. Now I have a semi and still hear the neighbours having sex (not sure why only terraces would)

😂I used to live in a really shitty flat with no insulation or sound proofing. I could literally hear my neighbour having a piss. His bedroom wall was against my lounge wall and let's just say I heard absolutely every time he brought a guy home for some fun - including the few times when things ended prematurely and disappointingly. My neighbour on the other side was a loud smelly cook, so it was like cooking banging and bad garlic smell from one side of the lounge and headboard banging gay romps on the other side. I don't miss that flat! 😂

I’ve had my fair share of unsatisfactory peen. 😂 And yet, I’m not judging making noise. If mastubating you know exactly what you want and where, how hard/soft, already. During sex this needs to be communicated to the other person doing it, not usually with a running commentary but more normally, I think, with noises of satisfaction. If swearing loudly during episodes of pain can be proven to reduce pain (which it has) I’m willing to suggest that communicating loudly during sex could also be proven to improve pleasure.

Yes to this. I had 4 different neighbours on one side of the terrace I lived in and one of the women was a screamer. It was quite the cacophony with the headboard rattling too.

Yes. Live in a 1930s terraced house next to a couple. When their daughter used to live there would hear her having sex.

Ha yeah I used to when I lived in one. They were a much older quiet couple by day. Now I am closer to their age I am full of admiration for their nightly enthusiasm.

When I was a young teen I heard loud moaning through the walls next door from my bedroom... My mom also heard it when she came in to say goodnight.

But the thing was our attached neighbour was a single man, and my mom had seen the married mom of 3 who lived our other side walking round there shortly before 😂
