Would you save your pet or a stranger's child?

Hello all

Slightly inspired by another thread where posters were surprised that people were more interested in someone's dog than their baby...

If you have a cat/dog and you could only save it or a stranger's child/baby, what would you choose?

For the purposes of this thread, no-one would ever find out you'd been given the choice, so you wouldn't face any consequences.

Thanks

Stranger's child, without hesitation.

Basicallyluls · 02/06/2024 22:13

Strangers child 100%. Love my pets of course but I'm a mum and can't bear seeing a child hurt even if I don't know them, it's an instinct. Haven't seen the other thread.

sprigatito · 02/06/2024 22:13

Stranger's child.

Devastated999 · 02/06/2024 22:13

As much as I love my pet, I would save a child, every time!

Rumplestiltz · 02/06/2024 22:13

Really? Love my dog so much. Always a stranger’s child. Surely everyone would choose this.

Swollenandgrouchy · 02/06/2024 22:13

Obviously the human child !!

Sunnysummer24 · 02/06/2024 22:14

Stranger’s child.

NotADailyMailJournalist · 02/06/2024 22:15

Ooft, unanimous so far! Perhaps people are too scared to fess up on a parenting website that they would choose their dog?!

Can you say WHY? (One of you has said instinct)

Because I’m not a psychopath

NotADailyMailJournalist · 02/06/2024 22:16

Have you all actually got pets?

I have yes and ofc I would
save a human

are you a psychopath 😂

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 02/06/2024 22:17

I adore my dog. But I’d save the child every time. I’d not be able to live with myself otherwise.

Soubriquet · 02/06/2024 22:17

This is a hard one. I want to say a strangers child….but if a child died in front of me, it wouldn’t traumatise me as much as my pet…

DoYouSmokePaul · 02/06/2024 22:17

Come on. No one could live with themselves knowing they caused a child’s death. Doesn’t compare to a dog.

SoulMole · 02/06/2024 22:18

Erm... 🥴

WaltzingWaters · 02/06/2024 22:18

I have a dog. Love her dearly. I’d definitely save a human child every time though.

NotADailyMailJournalist · 02/06/2024 22:18

Would it be different if it were an adult human whose life was at stake?

I have two furry overlords whom I absolutely adore. I've always had pets. They aren't children.

saraclara · 02/06/2024 22:19

I'm pretty sure that at least two people I know would save their pet. Whether they'd admit to that on a message board, I don't know

Icanwalkintheroom · 02/06/2024 22:19

What on earth?! The child, every time. And yes, I have a very beloved family pet who was our baby before we had dc. In fact dc2 would be utterly devastated to lose her. I’d still choose the child.

or the adult.

i would not prioritise a pet over human life.

IrritableVowel · 02/06/2024 22:19

We have 2 dogs. Adore them.

I'd save the human child every time.

LizzieSiddal · 02/06/2024 22:19

A child every single time, without hesitation.

WhatsUnderneathTheClothesBrookeDavis · 02/06/2024 22:19

I have had pets, although don’t currently and I couldn’t imagine any scenario where I would choose to save a pet over a child, no matter how much the pet is loved. A child is a human, they may grow up to cure cancer, they may grow up to be a teacher, they may grow up to be a stay at home parent. Whatever that is, they deserve to grow up and make their impact in the world.

BeMoreEfficient · 02/06/2024 22:19

Always, always, the human being, especially if the human happens to be a baby. Even though I like my dog more than I like people, a lot of the time.

The reason? Because I don’t like seeing people in pain. And the death of a baby would cause a great deal of pain.
