Do you wear necklaces every day?

I hardly ever wear them but I'd like to. I think I look a bit frumpy so don't see the point.
Does anyone else relate to this?
I'd like to change but I haven't got a clue what I like.

Almost always wear a necklace. I have a few that I rotate. I also wear dangly earrings most days, always have done. I feel a bit naked without jewellery.

EebaDeeba · 02/06/2024 21:23

I'm not a jewellery person, I don't even wear my wedding or engagement rings, but I do wear a necklace which I never take off. It's a pendant which contains some of my Granny's ashes. It's very important to me.

I wear necklaces all the time. Couldn't give a shit if they are considered 'frumpy'. If fear of being 'frumpy' keeps you awake at night, OP, you might want to have a little re-set whereby you decide to wear what you enjoy wearing, as frankly nobody is looking at you anyway. Just wear what you like.

You misunderstand. I feel grumpy generally so feel that wearing a necklace looks ridiculous on a frumpy look. As in who am I trying to kid? kind of thing.

Yes, I do. Take off when running, swimming, working out, and playing sport.

AppleGarden · 02/06/2024 21:28

Yes, I wear a gold necklace with a pendant that my late mother left for me. It s a piece of jewellery that she wore 24/7. My dad gave it to me after her funeral over 20 years ago. I only started wearing it in the last couple of years or so because a number of my clients told me I should wear the jewelleries that given to me with love by love ones. I m a therapist and quite often I would ask my clients to remove their jewelleries so they don’t get damaged during treatments. Surprisingly I came a cross quite a few clients often men never took off their necklaces that passed or given to them from their late father or mother. It s so sweet. Every time when a client took off their sentimental necklace on my request it made me feel quite privileged.

I wear 1980s style bright plastic beads most days, or 1950s crystals. Cheap and cheerful. Sold my diamonds long ago.

stressedespresso · 02/06/2024 21:31

I never used to until DH bought me a lovely, simplistic Swarovski pendant for Christmas one year. It’s small, elegant, goes with absolutely everything and I genuinely never take it off!

darksigns · 02/06/2024 21:34

Sometimes, but it’s bracelets that I wear every day. I don’t feel dressed without them.

DoYouSmokePaul · 02/06/2024 21:37

I have a few things from Hey Harper that I sometimes wear together or separately and mix and match. It can all be worn in the shower etc so I sometimes leave one on for a week before changing it.

They tend to be different types of gold chains or pendants like my initial, a daisy, a wee heart.

claracluck1978 · 02/06/2024 21:53

I pick earrings and a necklace every morning ashen I work out what I'm wearing that day.

Not a stealth boast at all but I am lucky to have a large jewellery collection (I work in antiques) so many of them have been purchased for small amounts at auction.ma rather than vast sums in jewellers.

Today I wore an Edwardian opal and pearl set gold necklace and opal earrings to match.

I love an unusual necklace!

FortunataTagnips · 02/06/2024 22:04

I used to wear pendant necklaces all the time but stopped when DD was a baby. Now I have a huge collection, which I’m still adding to, but somehow almost never feel like wearing. I think it’s partly because I have a chubbier neck and more chins these days!

Nanalisa60 · 02/06/2024 22:09

Old school here, string of pearls round my neck and pearl studs two in each ear.

Jeezitneverends · 02/06/2024 22:10

I wear 2 gold chains 24/7…one was a 1st wedding anniversary gift from dh, and the other belonged to my mum

paristotokyo · 02/06/2024 22:13

I have one I haven't taken off since I bought it as it's sentimental. It's the only jewellery I wear. However it was cheap and I'm thinking to upgrade it to a nicer version

eileandubh · 02/06/2024 22:17

A silver chain with two Stephen Einhorn charms, one for DM & DF; never take it off.

Although am increasingly getting into vintage fake pearls - nice heavy glass ones. The glow is v flattering.

I usually wear pearls. I know. Conjures an image. But they are flattering .

And the juxtaposition of pearls and DMs is quietly pleasing.

Pearls are huge this year. Especially when worn with gold link chains and bracelets or the half chain half pearl designs like this..

I wouldn’t be seen dead without my pearl necklace. I need something to clutch when people shock me.

PurpleChrayn · 02/06/2024 22:42

Yes.

I wear a gold chain with two Star of David pendants.

I never take it off.

AdoraBell · 02/06/2024 22:44

I wear a necklace most days.

FunnysInLaJardin · 02/06/2024 22:44

yes, I have around 20 necklaces, mostly silver with pendants - sea shells, star fish, various others.

Because I have so many I wear one a month every day and usually have a theme.

The robin necklace is for December, the shells is for September, the shell and pearl is for June etc

Check out Lines and Current OP - jewellery designed for people who don’t wear jewellery.

I totally understand what you mean about feeling frumpy and necklaces not really fitting/matching your look. When I lived abroad I tended to dress more smartly (when I wasn’t in activewear!) and wore necklaces a lot more regularly. Then we moved back to the U.K. and I spent my life in casual clothes, most often bundled up in several layers in a coat and so rarely wore any jewellery other than my wedding/engagement rings.

I decided to change things and take a bit more pride in myself - like I deserve to have nice things and to look nice, and bought several necklaces and rings from L&C and I probably now wear a necklace maybe 2/3 times a week, which is about 50 times more than I used to so progress I guess!

I feel naked without a necklace. Have built up a collection over the past couple of decades. Mostly hippy type rather than 'fine' jewellery.

Ah. Well, just sling one round your neck. It will perk you right up. I don't wear posh jewellery - colourful beads or statement necklaces are my preference. I have loads (mostly inexpensive stuff from M&S, John Lewis, Etsy and the like) and they do add something to an outfit. Seriously, don't worry about frumpiness. Just be comfortable and happy in what you are wearing.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/06/2024 23:08

Quite often - some of the tops I've got need something in the neckline but I quite like a pendant with others. But I lost my favourite a few months ago - a silver sphere, sort of Celtic open work design, I somehow managed to leave it in a hotel somewhere I think Sad. It wasn't expensive (bought in a Boots for about a tenner maybe twenty years ago) but it looked good and went with anything, and also had tactile appeal. I'd love to find something similar. Meanwhile I'm currently wearing a cheap opalite crystal point pendant on a cord
