Just watched the first 15 minutes of Up! for the first time. I am a BROKEN WOMAN!! I didn’t think anything could be worse than Disney killing Bambi’s mum, and here it is. Please tell me I’m not the only one?!

OP posts:

Coco didn't really bother me

How??? Genuinely I can't understand how that scene wouldn't melt even the iciest of hearts.

I made the mistake of watching this in the cinema, while pregnant. Sobbing doesn't cover it, I completely lost it

Same! I was 8 and 3/4 months gone. Barely fit into the cinema seat. Ugly cried for the entire rest of the film, and some hours afterwards. Never again!

Laiste · 28/05/2024 20:52

It was sad.
But the only film i've ugly cried at at the cinema was Green Mile. The neck of my top properly soaked and accidentally let out a VERY loud sob during a totally quiet moment Blush

Lol
I can assure it's not an icy heart 🤣

LindorDoubleChoc · 28/05/2024 20:57

Such a ridiculous over-dramatic thread title and OP over a film that was released 15 years ago. I do wish MN would grow up sometimes.

WomanMumLoverDaughterStepmumFriend · 28/05/2024 21:24

There is short about it too on Disney plus .

EleanorRavenclaw · 28/05/2024 21:25

Jessie’s song in Toy Story makes me well up every time.
Coco is a lovely film, the music, the colours it’s gorgeous.
Also Brave doesn’t make me emotional but it’s so pretty to watch the forest and the water are amazing. Plus it’s bloody hilarious.

Up has nothing on Coco. I can't even talk about that film without crying.

Coco really has me bawling every time I see the scene of coco and Miguel singing at the end . My man was the most important person in the world to me when I was growing up so it really hits me

SheerLucks · 28/05/2024 21:28

Try the first 15 minutes of Finding Nemo (which is a better Pixar movie).

I was in my last trimester of a difficult and longed for pregnancy, and it was so emotional for me then and now.

The beautiful Thomas Newman music too...

EnglishBluebell · 28/05/2024 21:28

I haven't seen it. Please can somebody briefly summarise the scene OP is talking about??

What's the secret. I turn into a snotty mess everytime and my 4 year old eye rolls me now if we watch it because to quote him "her singing isn't that bad mama..." 😅

Dependabledirt · 28/05/2024 21:30

I cried!

You need to watch it. Describing it simply won't do it justice. It's a film within a film.

LaPalmaLlama · 28/05/2024 18:21

I’m still not over Bing Bong in Inside Out. Kids were oblivious. The mums were all sobbing into our popcorn.

Oh gosh this too!!

So looking forward to the sequel!

BillStickersWillBeProsocuted · 28/05/2024 21:31

Someone pointed out to me the other day that Ellie always did up Carls tie. After she passes he switches to wearing a bow tie instead because he didn't know how to tie it himself 😢

Ponderingwindow · 28/05/2024 21:34

Watched UP at a particular time in our lives when we thought a particular dream might never materialize for us.

Reading the op was all it took to get me crying again and life worked out for us. That montage is just devastating.

CoConut22 · 28/05/2024 21:34

Love up!, also Soul was brilliant

moggiek · 28/05/2024 21:34

I only have to hear the theme to Up and I’m gone 😂

TinaYouFatLard · 28/05/2024 21:36

I read a fan theory somewhere that Russell is actually Carl’s guardian angel who is tasked with seeing him safely to heaven. His final explorer badge is his angel wings.

There are definite holes in this theory but it’s sweet anyway.

oh god, Bing Bong makes me cry just thinking about it.

purpleme12 · 28/05/2024 21:36

Oh no, I don't like that fan theory

PerspicaciaTick · 28/05/2024 21:39

Screamingabdabz · 28/05/2024 19:31

Nah I’ve fallen out with films like this. There is no need for these depths of emotional sucker punches in children’s films. Frozen 2 where she is sobbing uncontrollably in the cave is horrendous. As is the beginning of Finding Nemo and the toys in Toy Story holding hands and saying goodbye as they’re heading to fiery furnace… I know we all think it’s normal now but there is just no need for it. You can still have the necessary peril in children’s films without it being so dark.

It isn't a dark film though. It starts from a place of happiness lost and then the rest of the film is a journey to finding new happiness.

mondaytosunday · 28/05/2024 21:39

I'm a widow and yes it was pretty devastating. Coco didn't bother me and I'm not sure about Inside out. But Frozen with 'Do You Want to Build a Snowman' - OMG.

noodlezoodle · 28/05/2024 21:42

It's the second most upsetting thing in film, second only to Dumbo being rocked on his mother's trunk <weeps uncontrollably>

ZeroFucksGivenToday · 28/05/2024 21:46

Inside out absolutely devastated me, I grew up with a crap family and no great family memories. The reference to core memories and what they mean. I absolutely sobbed and sobbed. I'm not sure I can go watch the second one at the cinema.

queenofthewild · 28/05/2024 21:49

I watched it on a flight to San Francisco. I started watching as soon as the TVs on board were up and running. I was still howling when I went through passport control. Absolutely gut wrenchingly beautiful.
