When did you start to notice that you'd aged?

I'm turning 27 next week, which obviously I know is not old but I've just looked at myself in the mirror whilst I was doing my skin care and I'm already noticing more lines and creases! Especially around the eye area 😬

I'm dreading aging more and am starting to think about getting some Botox.

At what age did you start to notice?

45 in a couple of weeks. Not noticed yet. I mean I obviously have aged, I think I look about 45, but I don't take any interest in examining what makes me look my age or caring. I'm happy being 45 and looking it.

AllTipAndNoIceberg · 26/05/2024 21:06

Around 13

Dabralor · 26/05/2024 21:07

I'm 42 I defo look it. I really don't want to have Botox, though - I am proud of my body and the places it's taken me. I am now thinking that I need to look after it more consciously now - I can't drink a load of wine and be fine the next day. I need to eat quality food. And I can't sit still for hours or else I will feel stiff.

I looked fine and good for my age until I hit about 57. Now it’s getting worse every day. My face has pleats!

tracktrail · 26/05/2024 21:09

Around 50, start of menopause. Now I look like my mother/ grandmother. Jowly, bags, chins..,

Not19foreverpullyourselftogether · 26/05/2024 21:12

At 46, seemingly overnight my neck looked crepey and I started to get a hint of jowls. My hair and eyesight both changed too. Hair thinned and went grey for the first time, and my eyesight deteriorated so I had to start wearing glasses all day.
In hindsight it was the start of peri-menopause. I’d always looked mich younger than my age until then so it was a shock, and still is.

@pinklite I'd always say to remember that no one is staring at your face from 2 inches away like you are when you stare in the mirror. No one is noticing your fine lines because they're not looking at you unless there is something seriously wrong with them!

When I was about 38 I conceded that I looked a bit washed out if I didn't wear makeup when dressed smartly and started wearing it for work, where we had a smart dresscode (remember those?). Otherwise I'd only ever worn makeup for occasions. It wasn't lines specifically, just not being as fresh faced and thus looking a bit 'unfinished' without makeup if dressed more smartly, rather than that I looked 'old'.

I'm now 46 and I think in the last 5 years or so I look more my age than I used to - people no longer express surprise when I tell them my age, let's put it that way, and they almost always used to.

And you know what? I don't care. It's fine. I'm not sure why I'm supposed to look 'young'. There's nothing in my life that calls for me to look younger than I am.

Around 50-55

Sweetandsaltyburn · 26/05/2024 21:25

Early/mid 30s noticed the start of lines etc. Late 30s now and have noticed I am a lot more achey/feel stiff after being in the same position a while. But I always think in 20 years time I'll wish I was where I am now, so try not to worry too much. I also lost 2 friends in their 30s (fuck cancer) which is a reminder ageing is better than the alternative.

olympicsrock · 26/05/2024 21:27

42 - start of perimenopause.
aches and pains
waist thickening
weight gain
sleepness nights eye lids sagging
i feel like I’ve aged hugely in 4 years

ALunchbox · 26/05/2024 21:28

Late 30s.

Crushed23 · 26/05/2024 21:29

JamSandle · 26/05/2024 21:18

31 for me, so similar.

It wasn’t lines and creases as such, but the loss of that youthful / fresh faced look.

I’ve more or less embraced ageing. I use expensive skincare but I haven’t succumbed to tweakments yet (I’m mid-30s).

TheaBrandt · 26/05/2024 21:30

45-52 is a MASSIVE deal. No one tells you that! Until about 42/43 felt like I did late thirties then it all kicks off. Observed this in all my friends too

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 26/05/2024 21:32

I had a seriously rough time between 35-40, I believe it shows on my face.

Mum2jenny · 26/05/2024 21:34

Just wait till you all hit your 60s, you’ve not seen or felt anything else….

CointreauVersial · 26/05/2024 21:35

27??

Hahahaha....

I honestly don't think I noticed until about 50 (am now 57). I noticed how grey my hair had gone without me realising. Looking at photos I suddenly looked old. Have recently noticed age spots/pigmentation and sagging jowls. I feel so much more invisible nowadays.

Thepatioisready · 26/05/2024 21:36

Absolutely fine until my periods stopped. Literally over night my skin turned to shit, a few grey hairs but now frizzle as well, fat bits, crinkly eyes and my teeth started to look really crooked.
After taking it for granted and people saying I look good for my age the change was noticeable and shocking.

ebts · 26/05/2024 21:38

Nearly 72. I'm relatively fit, look at least 10 years younger but obviously have some wrinkles etc, very few grey hairs yet, but I am starting to need what my partner calls my Nana nap in the afternoons if I am at home, and waking up in the morning with various aches and pains in my limbs which usually dissipate as the days go on,but not always. I feel incredibly lucky as I am still able to help out a lot with my children's families. I fully expect to do a Dorian Gray and disintegrate all at once quite soon!

IPartridge · 26/05/2024 21:39

Stopped dying my hair during lock down and went grey. So I guess that made me look a lot older (I'm mid 50s now).

I genuinely don't care. Happiness and health are way more important to me than what I look like.

wogjalr · 26/05/2024 21:40

Mid 30s and started to notice how aged my eyes look a couple of years ago. Booked in for Botox.

Pickingmyselfup · 26/05/2024 21:43

Around about now (almost 38) My face looks older and I have some lines appearing.

My first grey hairs appeared around about 29 but I always used to dye it brown and now its highlighted and purposely toned to be a bit silver so they blend in.

I've definitely started to look older in the last year, up until 2023 I was asked for ID frequently whereas now it's hardly ever.

It's something I'm struggling to accept but at some point I have to, I'm only going to start looking older as the years go by. Maybe doesn't help that I still feel 16, not 2 years away from turning 40!!!

irishsea123 · 26/05/2024 21:44

35!
