Anyone want to give up fizzy drinks with me from Monday?

Absolutely addicted to Pepsi max.

Drink a 2ltr bottle a day and nothing else.

Terrible I know.
Complete addiction and I can't just have a can in the evenings as I juts drink them all if they're in the house.

I get headaches when I don't have it and feel nauseous which is enough to let me know I need to get off it now.

I'm also not supposed to drink carbonated drinks for another medical reason.

Anyone want to kick the fizz?

Also the price of it is ridiculous now. Am easily spending over £50 a month on Pepsi 😑

I need to do this but with energy drinks.
I have probably 3/4 cans of Monster a day, it's causing me to have sugar crashes several times a day, is ruining my teeth, the price goes up every month.
Ironically I have a heart condition and my cardiologist told me to avoid caffeine

Oh dear. Those things are terribly addictive!

I know, I've been justifying it to myself because I work 12 hour night shifts and telling myself that I need them to stay awake but honestly I don't, if anything they make me more tired once the caffeine & sugar wears off

Fancy trying to give them the boot?

I will happily join you! I really need to give up. At one stage I was going through a 2l bottle too. I drink less now but on my bad days I feel sluggish, bloated and uncomfortable. I am quite fussy with drinks and I think that's my problem trying to find an alternative. Ive googled the cons of drinking Pepsi max in the hope that it will give me the power to give up. Despite knowing the disadvantages that it brings I still find myself drinking it.

Excellent!
I'm the only one in the house that drinks it so I can just not buy it.

Other do drink fizzy drinks but they have full sugar and I don't like those.

I'm the other side. I was getting through up to 4 cans of full fat coca cola a day and constantly tried to cut back. I just loved the stuff and it is addictive.

It did a number on my tummy for years. I tried swapping it for lemonade with the same result. I had to stop so I didn't buy any to have at home. It was so tough. I drank lots of water, juice, tea and would sometimes cry because all I wanted was coke. I used to have a small bottle if I was eating out and after two really bad tummy upsets I knew I had to give it up completely. That was six years ago.

It's not easy but you can do it!

Surely it's the caffeine withdrawal that gives you the headaches and nausea when you stop. You could taper down your caffeine consumption with a different drink.

Wildflower86 · 25/05/2024 10:23

That's my other problem. My other half drinks it and shows no interest in stopping so always in the house. What will u drink instead? Do you like the fizz? I think that's my issue, I like the bubbles...

Jessie21 · 25/05/2024 10:23

The best thing to do is do it from right now. If you delay it you'll only lose motivation

I've had a gastric sleeve so am not supposed to drink anything fizzy 😵

So I'm going to try and swap to nice sugar free squashes.

Me! Also hooked on pepsi max. Annoying because I didn't even like it that much. Now I crave it all the time. And I don't think it's the caffeine as I'd just drink a coffee for that

Definitely! I picked up some sparkling, sugar free peach water yesterday so I can drink that instead, also have a bunch of different squash bottles to have

Amdone123 · 25/05/2024 10:33

@Wildflower86 what about sparkling water with lemon or lime ?
I was drinking too much diet coke so stopped a couple of weeks ago. My problem is I use it as a substitute for wine ( a whole other thread), and as a treat.
I now stock up on those 6 x 2litre bottles of sparkling water - this takes effort and planning 🤣, but once it's in the house, and the fridge at work, I find I enjoy drinking it.
I haven't missed the diet coke tbh - it's just a habit like everything else.

It's so weird as it feels like nothing else quenches my thirst.

I can have a cup of tea, a water, a glass of lemonade and still just feel like I need some Pepsi max!

I was addicted to Monster Ultra, Coke, Diet Coke/Pepsi/Diet and would buy a pack of 24 cans and they'd be gone in days, especially in summer/sun/heat which I hate as it made makes me even more thirsty. I was having a 24 pack at work and also another 24 pack at home and muktiple boxes of 4 Monsters.

Then one night I got up about 2am desperately thirsty and again guzzled a can of diet Coke, it was sooo cool and refreshing! But as I got back into bed I thought about the huge amount of sugar that's in them and how it could cause me to have a stroke or heart attack so I finished off the cans at home and work over the next few days then cut them out altogether. Now I have just one can of Monster or Coke or Pepsi a month and I'm already feeling the benefits!

TheDumpling · 25/05/2024 12:32

I also guzzle loads of unsweetened soya milk and cold water, women are supposed to drink 8 glasses a day but I drink more than that as I have a refillable sipper bottle on my bedside table at home, one on my desk in the livingroom at home and 3 on my works deck as I'm always drinking it so at least the water and milk are safe!

Blackcats7 · 25/05/2024 12:55

Years ago I drank nothing but diet coke until I started to have very sensitive teeth because it had damaged my tooth enamel.
I gave it up cold turkey which was hard but worth it.
I drink very weak squash these days because I really don’t like plain water. It sounds mad but water tastes dry to me so hence the weak squash.

longdistanceclaraclara · 25/05/2024 13:20

I had a massive Diet Coke habit, 4 to 5 cans a day. I went on hardcore Atkins diet back in the day went completely cold turkey. I can't drink it any more, 20 years or so ago. I'll occasionally have a full sugar coke but cat
Touch the Diet Coke.

JamSandle · 25/05/2024 13:27

Yes very happy too. I need to give it up as incompatable with meds I'm taking.

Pootlepins · 25/05/2024 13:32

It’s so addictive! I use to do a bottle a day of caffeine free Diet Coke for years - I can’t imagine touching the stuff now and only have water and a couple of coffees.

socks1107 · 25/05/2024 13:35

I drink a small bottle of coke a day. The 500ml ones.
I'd love to give it up!

RadioGaGaRadioGooGoo · 25/05/2024 13:44

I could have written this 3 week ago. I was drinking 2 litres a day and nothing else. DH was drinking the same but with full fat tango and we decided we would both do it together.

We bought a 2 litre cup (it's huge and you do get laughed at 🤣) and we fill that with no addded sugar orange/black current or whichever we fancy, make it up when we go to bed, put it in the fridge overnight and just drink that throughout the day. We haven't completely stopped so sometimes with our dinners we will have a normal sized can or bottle or if we are out (neither of us drink alcohol) but we both feel so much better for it!

Wow well done.

DH drinks tea and full sugar coke.

I don't think I could get him to give up the coke!

My teenage daughter loves Dr Pepper and was always asking for it so between the 3 of us we were going in local shop and spending £8 a day easily on fizzy drinks.

Absolutely mental.
