Anyone want to give up fizzy drinks with me from Monday?

Absolutely addicted to Pepsi max.

Drink a 2ltr bottle a day and nothing else.

Terrible I know.
Complete addiction and I can't just have a can in the evenings as I juts drink them all if they're in the house.

I get headaches when I don't have it and feel nauseous which is enough to let me know I need to get off it now.

I'm also not supposed to drink carbonated drinks for another medical reason.

Anyone want to kick the fizz?

PLEASE keep at this- carbonated drinks are no good whatsoever. Find the joy in water- a squeeze of lime lifts and adds many benefits such as better hydration and a good dose of Vit C. Replacing 2 litres of Pepsi Max with 2+ litres of water will completely and utterly transform your well being and energy levels.

@KetoKitty I honestly didn't think DH would ever give up full fat pop but he wanted to support me. We also didn't want DD and DS seeing we only drank fizzy drinks when we didn't want them to drink them all the time.

I gave up my daily Pepsi max habit about 2 months ago and it's been a lot easier than I expected. I do drink a lot more tea now but I think that'd better for me. Also I drink water during the day. In the evening now I drink water but put some frozen berries in it so that gives it a bit of sweetness (also buying frozen berries isn't too expensive). I tried citrus fruits but wasn't keen on that.

I still have fizzy drinks if I go out for a meal, or if I have gin at home I'll have a mixer (that has only been once since I gave up pop).

Not an addict, but I’m pregnant and one glass of full fat coke every few days was my treat (seeing as there’s so little to enjoy about pregnancy!)

Then a couple of weeks ago I happened to get hit with sickness after I’d had my coke. Honestly, seeing what it looked like half digested has put me off for life: what the hell is in that stuff?? It looked like tar! Needless to say I haven’t had any since 😂

Nannyfannybanny · 25/05/2024 14:14

It's weird reading this. I can't bare pepsi or coke,to me that just taste chemical. I don't like squash either. Tea morning and afternoon, coffee late morning. Ice cold water the rest of the time.. I worked with someone who drank a litre of coke on a night shift, I warned her she wouldn't mess up her blood sugar and becomes diabetic.... and guess what!!!

Nannyfannybanny · 25/05/2024 14:15

Not a litre, Several litres

Dixie43 · 25/05/2024 14:27

I'll join you. At the moment I'm drinking 3 cans of coke per day. I really need to stop before I damage my teeth. I also have 4 weeks to lose some weight before going on holiday, and the main thing that's piled weight on me is the fizzy drinks.

Today's the day.

Am sat with a lemon water thinking about the 3/4 bottle of Pepsi max in the kitchen.

I don't want to pour it away as my DD will drink it but it's a temptation atm.

Was addicted to 4 cans of Diet Coke a day. Gave it up when I was first diagnosed with cancer 12 years ago. Now have a couple a year, don't miss it.

KetoKitty · 27/05/2024 17:14

Not had a single sip. Just water with lemon.

Think I do need to get some nice squashes.

I think tomorrow will be worse.

Day 2 I usually feel pretty sick.

I had a glass of mango juice yesterday with loads of ice but I'm going to limit that to one glass per day, and just up my water intake. I've had my first bottle of water this morning.
I usually start getting a headache on the 2nd day but hopefully I'll be ok if I drink plenty of water.

mitogoshi · 28/05/2024 08:00

Best of luck people! Remember it's not just the caffeine, nor sugar for those drinking those varieties - the sugar free lemons and oranges are bad too. My ex fil got off his 2 2l a day habit so you can too!

Water is your friend, squash if you must. I also recommend redbush tea which is caffeine free and i like cold

Pancakefam · 28/05/2024 11:44

My partner brought home an 8 bottle multipack of pepsi max, 2 litres each! I also completely forgot about quitting yesterday, so am starting today.

I already feel pretty rough from poor sleep last night, so I can convince myself the pepsi will only make me feel worse

Read Ultra Processed People and look at the research re. sweeetners and their harm / ability to enhance appetitie and that'll be enough to stop you drinking them! It will also save you a fortune!

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 28/05/2024 11:52

Ooops ....enhance appetite, I meant to say.

stayathomer · 28/05/2024 11:53

Huge hugs to everyone doing this, the cost has gotten me way down off fizzy drinks, plus had a scope and they said my stomach contents were extremely acidic which freaked me out. Down to two cans of coke a week now and enjoy them much better! Advise, water and a piece of fruit when you get the craving. Do a few days completely cold turkey too. Best of luck!!!

KetoKitty · 28/05/2024 21:44

Well I've gotten through day 2 and I'll be honest I had about 4 sips of Pepsi max. But I also drank 2 litres of water.

I know it's an improvement because (TMI!) My urine doesn't smell, I was so dehydrated it stunk and I can't smell anything now, apologies if that's too much but just shows how bad it was for me!

And the bottle I had left is gone now so I won't be buying anymore.

Keep going - it feels amazing once you have cracked it!

I was drinking far too much Coke and stopped completely about 18 years back. I switched to lemonade initially and hated Coke pretty much immediately. Whenever I have tasted it (or any other cola) since, I have not enjoyed it.

I continued drinking lemonade for a lot longer, drinking a lot more than I should have at times then stopped completely 6 years back, only having the occasional glass when out. The cravings for something sparkling return when I have not drunk enough water so I make a conscious effort to keep up my water intake. When I do try satisfy the craving with a carbonated drink, I am always disappointed and find it too sweet.

My incentive to stop was that I wanted to model healthy habits for my children as they grew up. We all enjoy any drink we want when out or on holiday but it is much easier to stop them drinking anything else at home when we just dont have it

TheBizzies · 23/07/2024 18:27

A bit old now I know but how're those quitting getting on?
