I am a dyed in the wool labour-rite and I remember the night of the Labour landslide on 1 May 1997 very well, and walking home at 6 am, full of whiskey and grinning ear to ear.

I can't shake the feeling that the Tories are going to get in again in July though.

I'm not getting my hopes up.

ssd · 22/05/2024 19:20

Dollenganger333 · 22/05/2024 19:08

Exactly. When the Tories were flouting lockdown rules whilst criminalising any other person who did, there were many people unable to say goodbye to dying loved ones.

Even the Royal Family did not behave that way.

Didn't Johnson attend one of the illegal parties the night before the Queen sat alone at Prince Phillip's funeral?

Why would we want to remind ourselves of that smug warmonger Blair and his New Labour cronies who betrayed the working class people that voted for them?

Absolutely! The song evokes the sense of hope that I felt when TB first won the election and the sense of betrayal that developed during his tenure.

It's not genius it's immature. I absolutely won't be voting Tory but blasting out music from the nineties while due electoral process is taking place is just look at me behaviour.

I agree it is immature.

Fitting for the way the Tories have behaved. It's not just about bad policies.

I’ve already explained to dd (15), who is taking politics a level next year, how election viewing goes. Bottle of Prosecco on ice (for me), lots of snacks, lots of cheering every time a cabinet minister loses his seat.
CANNOT WAIT

There are some which may well make me wet myself in excitement if they lose their seats.
So many I would love to see gone but Rees-Mogg … imagine seeing his slimy face in defeat?!! A dream come true.

And Jeremy hunt with his smug smile

Steve Bray, always prepared.

He looks like Nigel Farage!

HappierTimesAhead · 22/05/2024 19:29

It was fucking hilarious and for those saying it was immature, I raise you Jacob Rees-Mogg and Boris Johnson....

TeenLifeMum · 22/05/2024 19:30

Because life under Blair was so much better? … until it wasn’t.

CountingCrones · 22/05/2024 19:35

A perfect protest by Steve Bray - it can be seen and heard in every news bulletin from every outlet. Very effective.

Of course it was better Hmm we had a functioning NHS and funding for schools, Sure Start centres for disadvantaged children, special programmes for gifted and talented children. I could go on.

You think things are better now?

YellowHairband · 22/05/2024 19:48

Quite. Is this who Labour voters are? Pathetic.

What an odd thing to say. Why would you assume all labour voters are like that?

Should people assume all Tory voters are like Frank Hester? Of course not, that would be absolutely absurd.

No, I hate them all but life under Blair was not all rosey and he lied and took us to war. But sure, you keep those rose tinted glasses.

just to be clear, I’m not voting Tory and this isn’t suggesting any positive feelings for the current government, I just have little faith in Labour being able to make a difference.

YellowHairband · 22/05/2024 19:54

It's not genius it's immature.

Yes, it's immature. Who cares though. Sometimes things can just be immature and silly. The man who was playing it ran as a Lib Dem candidate in 2019, so I doubt it was a hugely pro-labour point (he also protested at the labour conference by playing the anthem of Europe very loudly). Just a bit of anti-Tory silliness.

Screamingabdabz · 22/05/2024 19:57

Play your naff song but if you think Labour are going to make things better you are seriously deluded. It’ll be a car crash.

Spikyplant · 22/05/2024 20:01

I thought it was hilarious. Really cheered my day up! Absolute genius. I hope it gets to number one 😂
Everyone saying it's immature - lighten up a bit will you!

The last 10 years have been a car crash. Then Liz truss just for fun thought that wasn't enough so she poured petrol on the car crash and lit a match.

We aren't going to forget that they partied in downing street while telling us to stay home.

And I will never ever forget the day Liz fucked over the entire economy meaning my organisation had cut lots of projects that would make people's lives better.

Lets not forget that although Blair is responsible for that illegal war, the only reason he got it through parliament is because he got support from the Tory party, who said of course they would have gone to war if in office - it was not even a question.

That war was not representative of Labour generally and some Labour MPs resigned over it.

The UK was in far better shape under new Labour and now it’s become an absolute joke and a horrible place to live, thanks to the Tories and bastard Brexit.

Longlurker1 · 22/05/2024 20:28

The people who think this funny just cement a lot of people's views that Labour is just a mob party and shouldn't be trusted...

Better the mob than the elite. As this bunch of Tories have spent the last few years determined to demonstrate
(Am no hard left winger, I would love there to be two decent parties to choose between

Completely angry. The choices open to us are very poor

I suspected Led by Donkeys but it was Steve Bray
