Anyone else ill?

I luckily very rarely get ill but whatever this is has taken me down!

Sunday afternoon sore throat came out of the blue and by Sunday evening I wanted to take off my head and throw it away because it was pounding! Monday much the same but now a cough has joined it and yesterday I came out with a full blown cold, chesty cough that hurts every part of me and a head that hurts every time I move. No idea where I've picked it up and rest of the family are ok.

Anyone else have this? Basically just looking for some sympathy because I have the most unsympathetic husband ever and only my 10 year old dd seems to care!!

had chest infect a couple of months ago cleared without antibiotics - now cough for a few days and a sore throat before that and chesty - some of the family have a sore throat, baby GC has cough as well

Foodaddict1 · 22/05/2024 20:37

Sorry to hear that. I've had a cough for 4 weeks now (never get coughs let alone chesty coughs) and it started with a huge headache. I am honestly sick of it now. I'm going to get checked out in case there's something wrong with my lungs. It's the weirdest cough I've ever had.

frecklejuice · 23/05/2024 10:46

I never get chesty coughs but this one is awful, it's feels like it's really deep if that makes sense and it's so painful! Head still hurting and I'm blowing my nose a thousand times a day.

Hope you both feel better soon.

OP, I had those symptoms in exactly the same order. I tested positive for COVID yesterday, two days after they started. Rough, isn't it?

Hope you feel better soon!

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 23/05/2024 11:11

Covid is increasing again. My 90-year old uncle has just caught it while in hospital for a badly broken leg, so I checked and...

Anyone else ill?
Thepossibility · 23/05/2024 11:46

Yep. Sounds the same as yours and mine is Covid.

frecklejuice · 23/05/2024 12:22

Friend dropped round a Covid test about an hour ago and it's negative, was fully expecting it to be positive because I feel so shit! Walking up the stairs feels like climbing a mountain at the moment.

Hope everyone with Covid feels better soon, especially your uncle @TryingAgainAgainAgain

Thanks, OP. The home tests aren't very good at picking up latest variants. Lots of people found in the last wave that they only got a positive LFT after some days of illness if they kept testing. Have you got an oximeter just to keep a check on your oxygen levels?

Nightblindness · 23/05/2024 12:28

I feel for you. I had something a couple of weeks ago. I never normally get colds, I've had one in about 10 years. Like you, mine started very suddenly with the absolute worst sore throat I have ever had. That only lasted a day though, and I went on to have aches, fatigue, and then a nose that ran like a tap for days. All in all, it went on for 10 days. Like you, no idea where I got it from. I did wonder if it was covid as it felt worse than any cold I remember having, buti didn't test. Feel better soon.

Scaryclare24 · 23/05/2024 12:37

Suggest you get to the doctor, me and hubby have had it for two months now, they gave him steroids then some antibiotics, finally sent away sample and he has a heavy bacterial growth (covid tests and throat and nasal checks showed bugger all) so we are both on two weeks worth of strong antibiotics, it bloody sucks and now the kids have got it!

curiouslycoy · 23/05/2024 12:52

Son had hand foot and mouth, which I believe we've all come down with. I've got spots on my chest, pregnant stomach and face/head. Had sore throat, aches and hot flushes. He's had ulcers to the point he couldn't eat, horrendous rash on his bum and a few spots on his hands.

spiderlight · 23/05/2024 13:01

My 17-year-old has that - horrible red sore throat, headache, all bunged up, and a cough that sounds as if he smokes 50 a day. He's absolutely exhausted as well. He's done a negative Covid test but whatever he's got is really nasty. He had to sit an exam with it on Tuesday :(

I'm on week 6, honestly driving me mad. Got my voice back after 4 weeks so at least that's something

littleteapot86 · 23/05/2024 13:10

I have something not dissimilar and had to take yday and today off work which i feel awful about. It's the worst sore throat i've had. I have a 3 yr old to care for and my husband doesn't seem too bothered I'm ill. For me it's the worst part of having kids: feeling unwell but having no bloody permission to just stay in bed!

Loveheartsandlockets · 23/05/2024 13:13

Me! And mine started on Sunday afternoon too. I’ve spent the last 4 days in bed feeling like absolute shit. I did a covid test but it was negative. My head is agony when I cough but only then. I don’t have a headache otherwise. I woke up this morning drenched in sweat and I now feel marginally better.

Did you have a fever and then the freezing cold shakes? I think it’s partly the hot/cold weather. My body has gone on strike.

frecklejuice · 23/05/2024 17:09

@littleteapot86 I don't envy you having a little one to look after, mine are 10 and 15 now so at least I've had a couple of days off sick to myself. 🖕to unsympathetic husbands though!

@Loveheartsandlockets no fever here at all just this stuffy headache which is worse when I cough, a heavy cold and sore throat.

I had it for ages, a really sore throat and bad cough. I usually get better really quickly from things but mine lasted ages. Hope you feel better soon 💕

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 23/05/2024 17:45

what are he latest, est covid estimates for people with covid in England and in hospitals - anyone?

Cloud44 · 23/05/2024 18:52

Has anyone got like blocked ears / ear ache? Any tips on how to get rid of it?!

TheNoonBell · 23/05/2024 18:53

Gargle vodka and sleep. Really helps with the throat and if you get it early enough stops it going to the chest.

TheHorneSection · 23/05/2024 18:59

I haven’t got the cough or sore throat luckily, but honest to God I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus. Aches, exhaustion, foggy head… Been on and off work all week with it, I almost wish it would turn into something rather than staying like this never ending just feeling shit.

Cloud44 · 23/05/2024 19:00

I know the feeling @TheHorneSection

pinoco · 23/05/2024 19:02

I like the idea of gargling with vodka. I use salt myself because it is known for reducing the harmful bacteria and inflammation.

pinoco · 23/05/2024 19:06

I had something 3 weeks ago that made my lungs sound like bagpipes

Loveheartsandlockets · 23/05/2024 20:13

I sound as if I’ve got the death rattle. Not even joking.
