Came out of nowhere but music planning for friends wedding and Pachabels canon in d came up, and this then brought up Maroon 5 Memories (via Spotify) as chords are replicated so One Voice Children's Choir Covid song came up and showed the isolation we all went through,.my dc was 2 at that point and the song a bit cheesily brings back so many memories of the madness went through!

Pink, Who Knew. She sings about losing a friend and it just seems to hit me emotionally.

Queen, The Show Must Go On. Not a Queen fan generally, very much before my time. Always loved this song in particular, but when I found out that Freddie Mercury knew he was dying as he sang it, the lyrics became much more powerful and sincere. The line "Inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking but my smile still stays on" also really resonates with me as when I had cancer, I always hid away from the world when feeling rough, and as soon as I felt a bit more like me again, I put my make up on and went out with a smile on my face.

Ordinary World by Duran Duran, it was out at the time of a family bereavement and is very poignant.

SusanSHelit · 22/05/2024 01:32

Mockingbird by Eminem. Still can't listen to it without bawling as both a child of divorce and a single parent it hits very hard

Aquamarine1029 · 22/05/2024 01:38

For Crying Out Loud by Meatloaf.

winterwarmer8274 · 22/05/2024 01:42

How to save a life by the Fray

Hails68 · 22/05/2024 02:37

Music when the lights go out by The Libertines. I heard it a lot whilst going through a divorce, and always makes me sad when I hear it

ChocolateJigsaw · 22/05/2024 02:41

Dixie Chicks Landslide. I have no specific event associated with it that I can remember, but no matter where I am or what I'm doing when I hear it, I will start crying.

This has me in bits too.

Bihemian Rhapsody. Angelica Jordan

WalkWithMeSuzieLee · 22/05/2024 03:15

Everybody Hurts by REM
Samson by Regina Spektor
Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole by Martha Wainwright

yesmen · 22/05/2024 03:16

Two odd ones for you - they drive me bananas!

Edelweiss in Sound of Music. Knowing what evil tragedy is waiting sweeps over me every time.

Silent Night - I can never hear it without crying. I almost hate Christmas because of it. On top of the natural beauty of the hymn, the story of young soldiers from opposing sides singing it together in WW1/11 before going back to the trenches to kill each other devastates me.

IDontKnowMargot · 22/05/2024 04:15

Hope There's Someone by Antony & The Johnson's. Such a weird weird song but also beautifully haunting.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/05/2024 06:39

pressed send somehow!

there is a song by bright eyes called The first day of my life and it chokes me every time. It always seems to come on my playlist at the right time. I still sing it to my dog all the time because it came on in the car when I was driving back with her the day we got her.

Newyearoldhair · 22/05/2024 06:45

The Drugs Dont Work by The Verve.
My Aunty was more like a Grandma to me and I adored her.
We thought she was very stresed and grieving after her husband died. Turned out she had a massively agressive form of dementia. I am a HCP and knew what the diagnosis meant and the song was playing in the car on my way back from seeing her. 20 years on I still cant listen to that song without crying.

johnworf · 22/05/2024 06:50

Wonderful Life by Black. I came home from my beloved grandads funeral and it was playing. Reminds me of him so much.

Songs that were playing around the time of my children's births - Died in Your Arms tonight by the cutting crew, Like a Prayer by Madonna, Things that Make you go Hmmm by C+C Music Factory. All very random!

BouleDeSuif · 22/05/2024 07:08

Oh Holy Night sung by Celine Dion.

Luddite26 · 22/05/2024 07:16

Have I told you lately Van Morrison.
I used to have the radio to go to sleep mid 90s divorced, homeless massively not what I had planned when the kids were born and this beautiful piano gently tinkling away and the words.

Blackcats7 · 22/05/2024 07:34

Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel

White Horses ( theme from the 6Os tv programme) covered by Cerys Mathews

Will be my funeral songs.

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 22/05/2024 07:43

Meet Me On The Ledge, Fairport Convention. Not a band I'm normally into, but came across it on a compilation.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 22/05/2024 07:48

@yesmen God yes! 'Bless my homeland forever' makes me want to sob just typing it. I always think of all the displaced people and refugees all over the world and can't imagine the sorrow. That Silent night WWI story kills me too.

I dreamed a dream from Les Miserables 😭

Anything by Rod Stewart, my mum loved him and died young, his distinctive voice really upsets me.

Blurred lines and Rihanna's Umbrella make me smile wistfully, not exactly emotive tracks but both played incessantly during my pregnancies.

@Newyearoldhair my 21 yr old friend died of cancer while that song was in the charts. It's one I would actually turn off as it makes me angry at the injustice of it all.

Fridaysgirl17 · 22/05/2024 07:50

Lost without you by Freya ridings
Bring him home from Les Miserables this was sang by my dad at my uncles funeral & it wasn't list on me we were bringing him home as he had lived away

RausageSoul · 22/05/2024 07:52

Annie's song. Instant tears

hinterkitten · 22/05/2024 07:55

Ever since having DC, Wires by Athlete, which never had an effect on me previously. And my DC had a perfectly normal and healthy birth/post-birth so it's not like it brings up bad memories!

Bankholidayhelp · 22/05/2024 07:57

Will 99.9% if the time cry at:
Meatloaf - two out of three ain't bad
Jimmy Ruffin - what becomes of the broken hearted.

Actually I can cry to many songs. - eg national anthem being played at a sporting event...: I predict a riot - Kaiser Chiefs: ABCDEFU Gayle: marching/brass bands, musicals,
