Do the men in your life have pedicures?

My two sons (20 & 17) both spend a lot of time on the sand doing beach sports in summer. They shower, but don't bathe, and their feet are pretty cruddy. I was thinking of treating them both to a pedicure, but is it common for men to use nail bars? I've never seen any in our local one.

No. I know mostly farmers. They do not.

Abitorangelooking · 18/05/2024 12:01

Tbh I think pedicures aren’t really for properly cruddy feet. Send them to a chiropodist.

😀Op how about a chiropodist? Less of a girly thing although gentleman have had manicures for centuries.

DH goes to a podiatrist as he is type 1 diabetic.

Womblealongwithme · 18/05/2024 12:03

I don't know any who do. Young or old.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/05/2024 12:04

My best friend and my dad both go to a podiatrist. My dad's feet are grim.

Augustus40 · 18/05/2024 12:04

Just give them a soft nail brush each maybe to use in the shower as well as them using soap as usual. So not a scrubbing brush for sink purposes.

HarpieDuJour · 18/05/2024 12:07

I am also surrounded by farmers and they really, really don't get pedicures. The only ones I know who have anything done to their feet are diabetic, and they see a chiropodist.

Bjorkdidit · 18/05/2024 12:11

Some will, some won't. None of us can tell you whether it would be something your DSs will go for.

You do see a lot of (mainly young) men who've obviously had something done to their eyebrows, body waxing is more common now, plus teeth and hairline treatments. And a lot carry handbags so a lot of men do spend time and money on their appearance.

I used to work with a demolition crew, a few of which regularly had manicures and hand cream massages to counteract the effect of the job on their hands.

Jegersur · 18/05/2024 12:14

I don’t know anyone, any age, male or female, who gets pedicures.

Moier · 18/05/2024 12:20

I used to give my ex a pedicure once a week when l did mine.
A soak in a bowl with lavender foot salts.
Nails and cuticles trimmed.
Filed toes.. filed hard skin.
Nothing worse than being on holiday and seeing mens manky feet and fungal nails.
Luckily my daughter is a podiatrist and a nail technician and she makes sure her teenage sons feet are looked after.
Id get them to a podiatrist.. then make sure they look after them.
Once a week a soak and a scrub etc

trampoline123 · 18/05/2024 12:37

No, but I wish he bloody would.

bryceQ · 18/05/2024 12:38

I sometimes see men in the nail bars and I feel so sorry for the women doing it.

Can they go to podiatrist or something?

What a sexist comment! Why shouldn't men have a pedicure.

Ygfrhj · 18/05/2024 12:41

My brother gets pedicures, he even gets nail varnish sometimes! His wife goes regularly so I guess he started going along and likes it. He works an office job so it's not like his toes are ever visible at work.

EasilyDefined · 18/05/2024 12:43

I've never known a man to have either manicure or pedicure, although I'm sure some do. I've never had a pedicure either though, just the occasional manicure.

bryceQ · 18/05/2024 12:58

Because the men I've seen have disgusting feet and I feel sorry for the women doing it.

newtb · 18/05/2024 14:02

I go to a podiatrist as my toenails are too thick to cut myself. She even comes to the house.

Augustus40 · 21/05/2024 05:20

Podiatrists are well trained and nobody needs to feel sorry for them as it is their chosen profession.

SpringerFall · 21/05/2024 05:26

Not something I would arrange unless I knew they wanted to do it and that is male or female

marriednotdead · 21/05/2024 05:59

Not regularly but if we are on holiday, DP will have a pedicure while I have a massage. He walks miles every day (postie) so he needs to give them some attention!
We sometimes use those foot packs that they sell is Superdrug alongside the face packs too.

Spinningroundahelix · 21/05/2024 06:13

I don't trust manicurist's tools to be utterly sterile and autoclaved. I would never have a pedicure or manicure. All sorts can and does get passed on. I have had a podiatrist carve bits off though. At least they have a professional body while anybody can set themselves up with nail treatments as far as I am aware.

WorkCleanRepeat · 21/05/2024 06:13

I'd just ask them if it's something they are comfortable with. According to my beautician friends it's not that common but of course some men do have them.

LaWench · 21/05/2024 06:21

My DH did once on a couples spa weekend. That poor therapist. He has mangled feet from years of football.
I go to the chiropodist every 8 weeks for a luxury pedicure.

Radiatorvalves · 21/05/2024 06:32

Took my DH for one recently. Took an hour and cost £40. He got the giggles badly - very ticklish. He’s late 50s.
