Do the men in your life have pedicures?

My two sons (20 & 17) both spend a lot of time on the sand doing beach sports in summer. They shower, but don't bathe, and their feet are pretty cruddy. I was thinking of treating them both to a pedicure, but is it common for men to use nail bars? I've never seen any in our local one.

Please can someone explain the difference between a podiatrist and a chiropodist?

Simonjt · 21/05/2024 06:43

I see a podiatrist every two weeks as I have type 1 diabetes, my husband can’t cut his own toe nails so he gets a pedicure, but I think they just cut the nails.

vidflex · 21/05/2024 06:43

Reading this it has suddenly occurred to me that in the 25 years I've known my dh I've never ever seen him clipping his toenails! He obviously must do it, but I've never witnessed it. That fried my brain lol

Are you kidding? It’s a miracle to get them to cut their toes before it becomes “for god’s sake cut those talons!”

Cornishmumofone · 21/05/2024 08:13

@LemongrassLollipop There is no difference between podiatrists and chiropodists. Chiropodist is an older term, which is not used as much now because so many people got them confused with chiropractors and also podiatrist aligns more closely with the words used across Europe. You'll find degrees in podiatry but not chiropody.

God I wish he would. Mr Monkey played football for years and is a regular runner (including several marathons a year) - his feet are very gnarly.

He does do regular rudimentary care - clipping toe nails (sometimes even removing one), filing off dead skin, moisturising - but I think a good pedicure would help. I did buy him voucher for a pedicure from a fancy barbers that offered men's beauty treatments, but he didn't use it. ☹️

BoobyDazzler · 21/05/2024 08:28

I don’t know any women who have pedicures, let alone the men!

mindutopia · 21/05/2024 09:48

I'm a woman and I don't have pedicures. 😂

Tandbikkies · 21/05/2024 10:23

My DH (utterly vile feet .... a whole other thread!) has a foot health lady come round to the house every 6 weeks to cut his toe nails, abrade off hard skin and generally try her best to make them look and feel a lot better. She's not a chiropodist/podiatrist, but a foot health specialist who just does this service. It's honestly the best £20 we spend IMO.

ExcellentCat · 21/05/2024 10:26

My DH does regular podiatrist to help with cracked heels and awful toenails

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 21/05/2024 10:27

My husband occasionally goes to a chiropodist. They have the required tools and protective clothing to deal with his hooves which a nail salon wouldn't.

DappledThings · 21/05/2024 11:44

I don't know anyone who has pedicures or manicures as far as I know. Maybe some of my friends get their nails done. Nobody's ever mentioned it.

My FIL goes to the podiatrist occasionally.

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 21/05/2024 11:45

No and neither do the women including me.

GameOfJones · 21/05/2024 11:47

I have pedicures every six weeks during the spring and summer. If my feet are on show in sandals I like having nicely painted nails and no cracked heels/dry skin.

I've never seen a man in the nail salon I go to, but I wish DH would as his feet are rather gnarly!

Isthiscorrect · 21/05/2024 11:50

We used to live in the Middle Easy and loads of men there have manicure and pedicure.
My FiL has just been in hospital and his feet were disgusting. We've been telling him for years to go to a podiatrist l, given him the number said we would make the appointment but no.
Honestly just get your men to look after themselves. I don't think I'm high maintenance (I don't wear make up but do look after my skin) but I have a mani pedicure regularly and no idea why my husband wouldn't do the same.

Confortableorwhat · 21/05/2024 11:59

bryceQ · 18/05/2024 12:58

Because the men I've seen have disgusting feet and I feel sorry for the women doing it.

Why would it be better for the podiatrist?

lookeelikee · 21/05/2024 12:00

I do. Every two months. And I've gone there in my wellies.

MiddleAgedDread · 21/05/2024 12:13

Never had one in my life. We're both distance runners so I think it's unspoken agreement not to complain about the state of each other's feet!

I need this!
I can't find any kind of podiatry service within 50 miles sadly.

stclair · 21/05/2024 12:18

My Dh gets a Margaret Dabbs medical pedicure voucher every Father’s Day whether he wants it or not.

SlothsNeverGetIll · 21/05/2024 13:56

My husband attacks his feet once a year before cracking out the flip flops.
I waxed his back recently and, afterwards, to remove the wax traces he made me wipe him down with white spirit! 🤦🏼‍♀️
I think young men should feel perfectly at home having a pedicure.
