For me it's lighter evenings, but I also feel like to hide away and I like doing that Grin

I like just throwing a flowing dress on. No complicated clothes/multiple layers

People seem happier and more cheerful

Fanta Lemon 🍋

Holiday

Driving to see family with the air con on, busy blasting. Sun shining

Sitting in the garden reading with a coffee/lilt/wine, sun on my face, birds chirping.
On WFH days working in the garden
The abundance of flowers
Windows open all the time
Not bogged down under hoodies and coats
Kids playing outside
Wearing light shoes instead of boots
Summer dresses
Blue sky
Meeting friends in the pub garden while the kids play
Bbq's
Laundry drying in the sun

BBQ's without a doubt. And just the general smell of summer when you're sitting out in the garden in the evenings.
Not having to wear tights with dresses.

And in true Mumsnet style, I genuinely love a massive salad.

Aproductofmyera80s · 16/05/2024 22:47

I love sitting outside in front of the fire pit at night, minus june bugs dive bombing my head.. the dog loves it too 🤭

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 16/05/2024 22:59

Just about everything. I'm very much a sun person.

nothingsforgotten · 16/05/2024 23:08

I find life so much easier in summer.
So quick and easy to get dressed - no layers required
Being warm all the time
Getting the washing totally dry on the line
Long evenings

Unfortunately it's autumn here at the moment and we still have winter to come - I'm dreading it and already longing for summer.

nothingsforgotten · 16/05/2024 23:10

Oh, almost forgot - the sound of cicadas when I'm out walking, and going for evening walks with my neighbour

Getting the washing dried outside.

Fewer / thinner clothes meaning less washing.

This is certainly a plus. Knowing that you have more time in the day to dry. But we are always amazed that we have washing outside pretty much all year round picking good dry and windy patches. Even after all the rain we've had we've picked our moments.

For me the best thing about summer is not having to worry about heating. And being able to just wear t-shirts. There are the odd days where it's just too hot to do anything. But that's pretty few and far between.

Whizzgosh · 16/05/2024 23:27

Being warm, not being cold.

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 17/05/2024 00:07

Easy clothing. A dress and sandals.

Swimming in the sea

Coffee in the garden in the morning

Pub gardens

Washing drying on the line

Having more energy. Finding it easier to get up in the mornings.

Feeling the warmth on my skin

Holidays or weekends away

The seaside. I love the seaside. My dream holiday would be to hire a beach hut and sit inside or at the front of it, listening to the radio with a cup of tea and some fish and chips, watching the sea. I have more time to go during the summer.

derneine · 17/05/2024 01:34

School holidays - spending endless days out with my dcs
Summer events - festivals, fun days. I put them in my calendar and end up with too many that I could manage to go to.
Day trips to the beach and countryside, visiting new places
Going out without a coat
Travelling back from after school clubs and it's still light
Our family summer holiday
Family walks after dinner, in winter it's too dark
Paddling pools and splash areas
Time to work on specific skills with dcs, eg blocks of daily swimming or doing craft projects and games at home.

Just read your thread title as favourite things about your surname and then the op's post about lighter evenings, cue to going through surnames in my head that mean lighter evenings. I need to go bed if my newborn lets me 😭 but my favourite thing about summer is the smell of freshly lawned grass, the lawnmowers itself and wearing Birkenstocks.

tobee · 17/05/2024 03:42

Long days.

Sitting outside reading, especially late at night with a lantern.

Outdoor eating.

Everything really.

Used to love it when the dc were at primary and uniform was just a polo shirt and shorts or summer dress.

WaitingfortheTardis · 17/05/2024 03:45

The school holidays so I can spend more time with dd.

whatisforteamum · 17/05/2024 04:44

Lighter mornings at I get up at 5 am
Drier mostly
Washing On the line
Flowers and greenery galore
Bright summer clothes
Happy smiling people
Sitting on my garden bench watching my cat roll on the grass

Nice light clothes - no ugly jumpers or boots. Light nights. Kids sleep so much better in summer. Vitamin D. Energy. Warmth. What's not to like?

frozendaisy · 17/05/2024 17:09

Just being able to be outside happily in the evenings

virgocatlover · 17/05/2024 17:41

I love most things about summer.

Lighter evenings, and feeling you still have some day left when you finish work
Sunshine in general
Lighter clothes/not having to take a coat everywhere or bother with gloves, hat etc
Drying washing outside (and that lovely smell at the end of the day)
Less laundry generally, as summer clothes are less bulky than winter clothes
Summer fruits, with berries being in season and lovely
'Picky bits' for dinner
Ice cream and cold drinks on a warm day
Summer Dresses and sandals
Beautiful flowers in the gardens
Summer events, fetes, garden parties
Picnics

Things I don't like

Wasps
Spiders in the house
