I got a house!!!

After being in temporary accommodation for nearly a year, we have finally been offered and accepted for a house. It’s with a housing association rather than directly with the council but still. It’s a brand new build with a lovely big garden. We no longer have to stress about trying to find a house and we have a good secure tenancy. Thank god

Congratulations! It’s a wonderful feeling to have your own roof over your head. Enjoy making a lovely home

WonkyBricks · 16/05/2024 14:34

Woohoo! Massive congratulations 🎉 wishing you many happy years in your new house!!

Nottogetapenny · 16/05/2024 14:37

Congratulations, you can now make a house into a home! Hope you have many happy years there, making lovely memories. 🌸🌈

FunLurker · 16/05/2024 14:37

How exciting, it won't take long to put your own stamp on it.
We live SE and I believe the list for HA or council is long, as in several years. My DSD neighbour was in temporary for 4 years and 2 of those years were the mum and daughters were in one b&b room and the dad and son in another b&b room on the floor above. They did have a communal garden and kitchen/living space but had to keep all food in their rooms.

Pearbear · 16/05/2024 14:42

Congratulations, it must be a huge relief to know you’ve a permanent home for you and your family. I have a HA flat and it’s good to know I’ll never be living wondering if the landlord will sell up again.

Soubriquet · 16/05/2024 14:43

Looks like it’s gonna be a little difficult transferring some bills and stuff cos it’s so new, it doesn’t register on the bloody website. I have to type the entire address in. There are houses still being built but we have a guarantee that work will cease by a certain time and tbh after living where we are now, even the building noise is quieter

Brilliant news! Enjoy x

Happy new home! 🏠

EnglishBluebell · 16/05/2024 14:49

Congratulations! We got a new build HA house in 2019, it's great. Tip - arrange for a carpet man to come and measure up asap as carpet orders can take a while. Otherwise you'll be getting the keys whilst you've still got concrete floors. Learnt that the hard way!

BudgieBardot · 16/05/2024 14:51

Congratulations

Congratulations OP! Can we have an online housewarming thread? Everyone bring a bottle glass, that type of thing?

Edited

I always bring a fire extinguisher as a housewarming present. [boring]

Soubriquet · 16/05/2024 14:52

Yeah we can’t quite afford carpet yet but it’s on the list of things to do. All of downstairs has beautiful vinyl floor down so it’s just the stairs and the upstairs that need doing. We also need to get curtain rails in and curtains asap.

Ooo one more thing I can say brag. It’s a detached house!! My very first detached home

Great news OP

TheChosenTwo · 16/05/2024 14:58

Congratulations @Soubriquet - that really is wonderful news, I can imagine the feeling of finding out and that big sigh of relief and all other associated emotions.
I hope you have many many happy years in your lovely new house 💐

CrepuscularCritter · 16/05/2024 14:59

That's great news. Happy new home!

EnglishBluebell · 16/05/2024 15:00

Yeah mine is. I'm so glad it's not terraced! Our last one was and we heard everything every time next door used the toilet! 😖 We don't hear a thing from anyone unless we're outside now. I was very pleasantly surprised how well built our house is as new builds get such a bad rap. No issues here at all (unless snags were solved before we took the house!)
I actually miss the builders being around now that our development has finished. Men in uniform strolling past every 5 mins! 😏 Just a hi vis & shorts in the summer! 😎😝

Enjoy! 🥂

dontcallmelen · 16/05/2024 15:00

Wishing you many many happy times in your new home, fabulous news.

mathanxiety · 16/05/2024 15:01

Congratulations!!!!!

Very happy for you. You must feel so relieved.

Soonenough · 16/05/2024 15:09

Nice to hear some good news. Council / Housing new builds are often of a higher standard than private. They have to adhere to strict guidelines. Do they have all appliances , tiling , shower screens, etc. ? Like to hear that there are other properties being built , hopefully to house other families like yourselves. Added bonus to be moving in at this time of year.

DirtyDensDog · 16/05/2024 15:17

Really happy for you. You must be over the moon.

MadMadMad · 16/05/2024 15:18

Congratulations, although it may take time to get it just how you want at least you know you have a secure tenancy and can slowly get on with it. Enjoy your new house.

its unfurnished. The downstairs is all vinyl flooring down so that’s one worry done. The upstairs bathroom has vinyl too but sort from that its all bare

We need to get a cooker. We have a fridge freezer but that desperately needs upgrading. We also ideally need a new washing machine and tumble dryer but it will be done bit by bit
